West Way Taxi

Last night I phone a cab to go about 5 kms away and due to the weather I called over a half hour early. I also asked how the delays were as we were contemplating taking our car instead if the wait was too long. They said between 5 and 20 minutes. As we needed to be on time I called back after 20 minutes and was assures a car was «just dropping off a fare nearby and then we were next». Another 20 minutes go by. We are now late for our engagement. I call back again and was told there would look into it and ensure I was called back right away to let me know when to expect the car. Another 10 minutes later I called back again and was told «sorry we don’t have a car assigned to you yet, no eta as drivers were going home» I cancelled, took my car and was hopelessly late for my event and then had to not enjoy a drink as I had to drive. We all understand winter in Canada but tell the customer the truth! I would give them zero stars if I could. With Über in the picture this is not good business. Very disappointed!

We have used this taxi service twice from Blackburn Hamlet to airport twice. Price is high — $ 44 — but service is good. Both drivers loaded and unloaded heavy bags, placing them on airport carts for us. Cars were clean, seat belts all working, drivers were pleasant. No complaints here. We will call them again.

Picked up in Stittsville on time with the correct type of vehicle (had big luggage) in the middle of the night: driver was courteous, suggested and took the optimal shortest route even knew the local road shortcuts at both ends of the route.

Rude driver, horrible trip to the airport. I wish there was an option to give a no-​star review.

Apparently there are no great cab companies in Ottawa. From that perspective, Westways is the one-​eyed king in the land of the blind. They function like a normal big city cab company and actually show up to pick you when they say they will.

Some may argue that all Ottawa taxi cabs are the same. That may be the case but I find that the West-​Way drivers are far more friendly and helpful than Capital and Blueline.
I first used West-​Way during our lovely two month long winter transit strike (AMAZING fun let me tell you!!!) and I find the men and women of West-​Way to be kind and considerate. They didn’t mind stopping at a bank machine or even when I used their in car Interac too. I’d encountered VERY grumpy drivers with both Blueline and Capital when I hopped in their cars and asked to use Interac.
Living downtown means that I don’t get to hail many West-​Way cabs as I believe there are regional rules about where the companies can pick up from but if I’m in the west end or if I’m ever given a choice I’d choose these drivers over the competition.
The customer service when you call West-​Way has also never been a problem.
Get me from A to B with no complaints or mishaps and I’ll be happy. West-​Way has done that for me every time. I can’t say the same about the others.
