3.5 stars. I’ve been walking past Cabin Crafts & Such for six summers now and never wanted to go in. From the outside, it looks junky and cheesy. There are ugly bathing suits on display, and tacky lawn ornaments visible through the windows. This summer, however, a gorgeous painted birch tree on glass, set in a rustic wooden frame, hanging squarely in the front window caught my attention, and I ventured in. I was right that it’s junky and cheesy inside. But I was wrong in my assumption that it’s *only* junky and cheesy. If you commit to really digging through the racks and shelves, you’ll find some real gems in here. Cabin Crafts is selling children’s, women’s, and men’s clothing, shoes, and swimwear; as well as kids’ toys, lawn and garden items, home décor, art, and knick-knacks. It’s a real mish-mash of stuff *crammed* into the nicely sized space, and relatively affordable stuff, too. After scouring the joint for a good 30 minutes, I came up with an adorable fitted canvas jacket accented with antiqued brass buttons and zippers, for C$ 30 — a complete steal in my mind. I also had my eye on a hand-carved soapstone inukshuk — these cairns scream«Canada» to me, as they literally litter the landscapes, highways, and byways. Maybe next year… That painted birch on glass was C$ 325(!!!), tho, so I skipped it.
