This small shop in the T of Jean Talon Market has smoked fish so good it’s made it’s way into all of my family traditions and holidays — and not just on the Danish side where smoked fish is required by law. There’s smoked salmon and then there’s salmon caught in the Gaspesie and smoked«a l’ancienne» — outdoors over a fire by 17thC coureurs de bois no doubt, the manliest of men. Don’t miss the small pile of bite-sized glazed-looking salmon lovelies in the back of the glass display: these are smoked with Maple and they are not sweet exactly, they are just… perfection. The upbeat, bilingual staff will gladly vacuum seal your fish for you if you’re traveling too!
