*Our Performance Program is the best way for students to get the full School of Rock experience. It includes private lessons on guitar, bass, drums, piano/​keys or vocals and weekly band rehearsals to prepare students for live shows at real rock venues. The authentic on-​stage experience teaches more than musicianship — kids gain outstanding teamwork skills and confidence while having fun with their friends. *

*School of Rock offers programs for preschoolers, kids, teens and adults of all skill levels. Kids just beginning their musical journey can participate in our Rookies, Rock 101 or Lessons+ programs to get a feel for their chosen instrument, the dynamics of group performance and fundamentals of music theory in preparation for our Performance Program. Top students can also audition for our prestigious AllStars program to experience a real concert tour.*

History

Established in 1998.

School of Rock (formerly known as The Paul Green School of Rock Music) is a for-​profit, music education program. The company operates & franchises after-​school music instruction schools worldwide, serving more than 17,000 students via 150 locations in 8 countries, and has become the largest after-​school music program in the United States. Though they offer a pre-​school introduction to music for children age 2 – 5, the majority of their students are in a performance-​based program where students are accepted at any skill level, with the goal getting them on stage, playing a concert before a paying audience. The most skilled students in each school form a band & play concerts in their city, and top students from each school compete to become a member of an «All-​Star» band & tour in the U.S. Recently, they expanded to offer career development for working bands, & «Grad School» for adult amateur musicians. Successful musicians are occasional «Guest Professors» and perform with the students.

Business Owner

Shelly has been involved in music since the early age of 4 and on the business side of the Entertainment Industry for 30+ years. She has worked in the non-​profit sector as well as the mainstream music, video and film side of the business, has held some exciting upper management positions within the industry as well as seats on many industry boards and committees. For the past 20 years, Shelly has specialized in consulting and business services to all sectors of the entertainment industry, both in Canada and the U.S., but her main interest is and has always been «music». Shelly was nominated as a Toronto Sun, «Woman on the Move» and has been involved in many major entertainment industry events but she is still most passionate about playing music and keeping it alive. Shelly’s responsibilities with School of Rock Markham include all aspects of marketing, advertising, promotion, social networking, branding, copywriting, event coordination, student enrolments, artist management and HR.
