I just love this place. What a relaxing getaway from the city. Unlike some nearby mountain lakes, the water temperature at Whonnock Lake is nice and very swimmable. They’ve got a roped-off enclosure for swimming which is great for kids and keeps it safely away from nearby canoes and kayaks. If you like volleyball, they have a net put up over the sand. Lots of free parking really close, and there is even a little shack selling burgers, hot dogs and fries. Bathrooms are standard campsite portapotty style. If the sandy beach area was a bit wider, I would give it 5 stars. Small gripe I guess. Overall, a really good lake retreat in the Lower Mainland.

I absolutely enjoyed my trip to British Columbia and what better way to relax than to hang out at Whonnock Lake. Beautiful and scenic, this lake is in a secluded area and it is perfect for families or a group of friends. Some people had blankets set up in the makeshift sand, while others pitched tents in the grassy areas and had their electric grills ready… can we say camping??? The water was a little too cold for me, I was only brave enough to put my feet in. My cousin and I sat on the park bench and shot the breeze while the kids played in the water and at the nearby playground area. We ended the afternoon with french fries at the snack bar. Good times.

After church service, on a beautiful afternoon, this was the place to be. The boys and I came here with our good friends and made an evening of it. Kept away along Loughheed Hwy, near Golden Ears Provincial Park, was Whonnock Lake. Upon entry were several places to park, all the way up to the lake front. The lake is huge and there is so much to do! The kids were able to swim and play in their shallow lake area. My husband was able to fish on the dock. Their is a snack bar in case you are hungry. A park for the kids as another option. Volleyball nets for you sports enthusiasts. Park tables and benches to throw a picnic. A covered table area to throw a party. Paddle Boat rentals. Sand to build sand castles. The list goes on and on… The gates on the way in close at 8 pm, But you can fish here anytime… Great Lake!
