One of our favourite restaurants. The ribs and hamburgers are the best in Ottawa. Casual, friendly dining. Great wine lists that are ever changing. Beautiful big patio for long summer afternoon lunches. Dont leave without trying the sticky toffee pudding.

Beet salad, sticky toffee cake and lotus green tea — so good! The service was great and the coziness of this restaurant makes you want to stay longer(hence the cake). Will be back for dinner next week with friends.

Incredibly delicious food. I recommend the charcuterie board and ribs. Great ambiance and décor. Service was very slow though. I understand it was busy that night but after being seated we waited at least 5 – 10 mins to even just get acknowledged by our server. Once the board came in it took a whole hour before the rest of our food to come. We were literally picking at the last morsels off the board to pass the time. I dunno of it was just the server or the actual kitchen. It was a good thing we weren’t all starving from the get go. 5 stars for food, 3 starts for service

Went here tonight with my friend for a small bite to eat and a drink. I had the romaine and brie salad with shrimp and it was pretty good! I’d like to come back and try another meal with more substance(I wasn’t overly hungry tonight) but from the service to the atmosphere I was very pleased. The staff were all very friendly and upbeat, which really can make or break a dining experience. I will definitely be making my way back when I’m in Manotick again!

Consistently good food, attentive service and a cool environment(the blues station ambience is really pleasant). Outside seating, though a bit noisy being so close to the road, is pleasant on warm days. A great place to go for a casual, unhurried, and delightful experience.

Highly recommend the club wrap. I believe it was ham Turkey bacon lettuce etc in a nice warm tomato basil wrap. I think it needs cheese ! I ask to add cheese — it makes it just perfect. By far the best French fries I’ve eaten! They are doing it right!

This has been a pretty regular site for our date nights and is a place we take our family and friends and out of town guests. We enjoy just about everything. The service, the venue(especially the patio in the summer) the drink menu and the people. Our favourite is the steak which is always cooked to perfection. I highly recommend the Black Dog for all it has to offer. It will always be a favourite :) M & C Thanks

Every time I eat at the Black Dog, I’m encouraged by my taste buds to come back again. I find it the perfect mix of fancy and comfort to be able to bring friends, family, or a business associate. I’m looking forward to the summer time ‘quick-eats’ window. Yum!

I finally came back to Black Dog for a full meal, and it was fantastic! We were seated right by the beautiful fireplace, and it was super cozy and lovely. Our server was really friendly and helpful, but it took a long time for us to get our orders taken. However, once our food finally arrived it was divine. I split the fried calamari with one of my girlfriends, and it was perfect. A great seasoning and texture along with a tangy mustard dip made it one of the best calamari dishes I’ve had. I also had a wonderful Riesling here(though I can’t remember what it was called!) that was perfectly chilled. For my main I went with a fairly safe bet — the club wrap. You would think a wrap might be boring, but this was so fresh and flavourful it was fantastic. The sweet potato fries were also excellent and served with a slightly spicy mayo that made that even more tasty! The food and atmosphere here are phenomenal, and our server was sweet, but I had to take off a star for having to wait so long for our order to be taken and our food to be brought out. I’ll definitely be back though, as it may have just been an off night.

Charming location, ambiance and décor are the main attractions for this cozy, rustic wooden-beam-bearing establishment in Manotick. Service is friendly and efficient, the kitchen is obviously well organized enough to accommodate a large dining area without having the patrons waiting a long time between courses. Now, for the food. First off, the menu appears to be attempting to find balance between casual dining, with pub-like fare, and higher end dining, with your usual French inspired bistro cuisine. Secondly, portions are large enough to leave you satisfied without having you go home ‘incapacitated’. As for the taste — I can only refer to my own dishes, which were ‘okay’. I started off with the crab cakes, which had a pleasant ‘onctuous’ consistency but were a bit on the salty side and featured a whole shrimp stuffed inside of them — which is fine albeit surprising. My main was the bouillabaisse, a traditional dish from Southern France, typically found in the Marseille region, which is boiled seafood swimming in a fragrant broth, very rustic and, from my past experience quite delicious and comforting. This was the main miss of the night. The whole thing was quite bland and lacked the addition of fresh herbs to spice things up a bit. For dessert, I had the sticky toffee pudding in caramel sauce — which was more akin to a spiced muffin — and although tasty, lacked the ‘sticky’, moistness of toffee pudding. Their desserts are apparently made in individual portions — although practical, sometimes the taste/texture will suffer. All in all, the food that I tried did not knock my socks off but the overall experience was very pleasant, enough to make me want to return and try other dishes — which looked quite appealing on the tables of my fellow patrons that night.

We stopped in for a late lunch, Friday afternoon. There were a few people on the deck, but we had the inside much to ourselves. We had the Burgers. Excellent meal, quality throughout. ~$ 30. Seasoned just right, with good quality cheese. The fries were great. The staff were friendly. The Black Dog is now our local favourite. In today’s connected world, it would have been nice to have wi-fi. Rogers signal was below 3G.

Last time I was at The Black Dog it was a nice but standard village pub. That was probably 10 years ago or more. Everything about it has been upgraded and vastly improved. It has been totally renovated everywhere. The service was great. The ambiance perfect. And the food was simply superb. I had the mushroom ravioli and my fiancée had the grilled salmon. Both dishes were perfect. I also tried a couple of pints of Hogsback Lager — new for me but it certainly won’t be the last time. We will definitely be back. :)

Love this restaurant, it always has a warm and intimate atmosphere, and the owner always greets you at the door. Their Mussels are always perfect, and I’ve never had a disappointing main dish. Make sure to make reservations, a seat here is highly sought after

We stopped here for lunch last week. It is one of the more popular places in Manotick and there were no unreserved tables inside. Fortunately, there were a number of tables outside. The service was prompt and friendly. As we were in a bit of a rush, my sister ordered a Tandoori salad with chicken and curried chick peas. I had two starters — duck confit wontons with a dipping sauce and a serving of sweet potato fries with a Dijon mustard dipping sauce. We decided to share everything. All three dishes were excellent and the quantities were perfect for a light lunch.

This place was excellent! When I walked up to the patio, I was immediately greeted by the owner and seated by a hostess. I was dining with clients and the restaurant was very conducive and accommodating to our business needs. They have a nice selection of beer, wine and liquors. The menu was excellent, food was delicious(!), desserts were outstanding(and the offering was robust), and service was great. Top notch all around.

One of the best restaurant experience I’ve had in a long time. Situated in the quiet and friendly town of Manotick, this bistro is a great place to hangout after sports. On this occasion, I went alone for a meal and sat at the bar. Jane — my server was incredibly polite, welcoming and cheerful. Since I was sitting alone at the bar, various staff came and chatted with me and asked how everything was. I ordered an Apple Martini, along with Farm Chicken stuff w/goat cheese. Jane was very quick with the martini and the main course took about 10 – 12 minutes to prepare. The chicken was moist and the wild rice pilaf with veggies were a great compliment. A White Russian to finish and indulge my sweet-tooth. Quaint, friendly and delicious. Can’t ask for a better meal. Their menu online is a bit out of date — my guess is that it changes with the seasons.
