I died and went to Lunenburg! Had lunch here with family one afternoon and we were very impressed with the tastiness of the food, the portions, the selection of beers on tap and the service. Between the three of us we ordered scallops, the seafood quintet(for which the salmon was a bit dry) and… their signature dish… The Lunenburger. This consisted of an all-beef patty covered with bacon, cheese, tarragon butter and lobster, and it was mind-blowingly good! We’ll definitely head back there the next time we’re in the area.

We walked in late for the locals and had a very good service and an excellent meal. We shared a HUGE Plate of potato skin(cheddar /bacon) as an appetizer and a 2-piece fish and chips. The tato skins were excellent with a deep smoky flavour. The beer batter halibut was cooked to perfection, crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. Local beers and an Irish coffee nicely completed the meals. All this for a reasonable cost($ 60.00 + tip)

As a Yankee, I wanted to enjoy a traditional Lunenburg, Nova Scotia recipe. I ordered their Blue Rocks Fish Cakes and my husband had fish and chips. My fish cakes were made of haddock, cod, and potatoes, were grilled to a lovely texture and absolutely delicious, even to someone not accustomed to such fish cakes. They were served with a beautiful salad with locally grown greens, sweet baked beans, and an interested and wonderful green tomato relish they called«chow.»(It was so good I could have eaten it by the spoonful.) My hubby’s fish was firm and delicious and the breading crisp and well balanced. Service was great – efficient and friendly at the same time, and the local is terrific for those touring this historic place.

Great experience today at The Grand Banker. I had the sweet potato gnocchi with pears, blue cheese, and bacon($ 17.99) and my wife had a «seafood quarter» which was a special($ 21.99) and contained grilled salmon, lightly breaded fried haddock, shrimp, and seared scallops. We received very enthusiastic service, and both thoroughly enjoyed our meals. The only thing that could have been improved, I think, is that my wife’s salmon was overcooked and could have used some seasoning. It was certainly edible, though, and she didn’t mind because the rest of her plate was so good. I was a little concerned about how filling the gnocchi would be, and our server offered me a side salad for $ 3 extra. The salad was also terrific. We will definitely be back in the future! Very good food at a reasonable price.

I have nothing but good things to say about this restaurant! During our stay in Lunenburg we ate there 3 times. Two times I had the seafood medley and once the salmon. I don’t know if this is because I live in Toronto and nowhere near fresh seafood but this was some of the best seafood I’ve ever had! My boyfriend is still talking about it. It was so buttery and creamy I’m drooling just typing these words out. It is a nice, casual place right by the water and with the quality of the food it was so worth going back three times. I hope to one day return.

Not good at all. Ordered seafood medley; was supposed to be pan-seared but was not but was boiled; little flavor. Wine way over-priced. Very noisy but tolerable if in booth. When voicing dissatisfaction, no move to compensate at all. No more visits from the 4 of us:(

The inside is nice and has lots of windows looking out to the waterfront. They have a good choice of food on the menu and lots of beers on site. The reason I’m giving this place low stars is because of the food experience I had. I ordered the Beef Tenderloin. 8oz of local Bova Scotia beef tenderloin charbroiled topped with sautéed mushrooms and aged cheddar. Served with garlic mashed potatoes and seasonal vegetables. I also added a lobster tail. When the plate came, the lobster tail was missing 90% of the meat. It looked as if someone had taken the meat out and left one bit at the end of the tail. I called the server over and showed her and she said, well did you eat it? Of course I did not I was very upset as I was looking forward to that part of my meal. I wanted to say to her, I was going to ask you the same question did you eat my lobster tail but I politely just said no please remove it off my bill as I don’t want to wait for another.

The Hell Bay fish and chips were delicious! I went with the Hell Bay ale as well and it was a good choice. Quick service and a good atmosphere. We were down for the Folk Festival. Lunch here is worth the time and $$.

Went there 14/07/2014 for lunch. It was really busy as we got there at the lunch hour. Waited at the bar but the girl behind the bar was only 18 so she couldn’t make a drink. The hostess seated people came after us and I clearly noticed it. I saw that they had CAMPARI at bar so I ordered a Campari with club soda. The sever didn’t even know what a Campari was and brought me cranberry juice and club soda. The appetizer was very tasty and presented well, shrimp and crab fritter. I ordered steak sandwich as main and my friend ordered fish cakes. It took almost 4o minutes for our main course to come after the appetizer. Very few small pieces of beef on the open face sandwich but it was tasty. Had to order sweet potato fries as side order for $ 3.50 as the sandwich came with nothing on the side. So for the steak sandwich it was almost $ 16 so felt ripped off. My friend’s fish cake was alright but there was more potato than fish in it. Won’t be returning there soon. Would recommend Old Black Forest Restaurant for an authentic home cooked German food.

We stayed at the inn above this bar back in the fall with some friends and we still talk about how great the food was, so I figure it’s time to write a review. The seafood was some of the best I’ve ever had(I ordered the Seafood Medley), there was a good choice of beers, the atmosphere was really relaxed, the view was nice, and we had the added bonus of being only steps away from our room! Thanksgiving weekend isn’t busy in Lunenberg so not many restaurants were open late. This was probably one of the only places open and still pretty busy in the evening.

My husband and I stayed at the inn above this restaurant called the Brigantine Inn. The night we checked in we ate here. I saw on Unilocal that it had good reviews and had some of the best local sea food in town. I got the fish and chips and my husband got the burger with bacon, lobster, and on top of it all a bacon wrapped scollop! He said it was great. It came with homemade chips which I had to try and were awesome. I got the fish and chips and I swear the fish tasted amazing!!! You could really taste the fish, it was so fresh. Back home in New England it’s pretty most places but sometimes you can’t really taste very much of the fish it’s super mild. I’m not saying it was fishy, but I’d like to taste the fish when I’m eating it. I got fries with mine and there was a HUGE pile of them. I couldn’t finish them all. They were nice fries too. They had a lot of craft brews there on tap. It was really great to taste the beers from Canada, really fun. I noticed that in Nova Scotia every restaurant we went to they put the beer in the corresponding glass for that beer. Back home in the states we don’t do that, a pint glass could be anyone. I found that interesting. The window seats looked right out to the waterfront. It was kind of rainy and chilly that night so the outdoor seating wasn’t really an option. But the patio area looked really nice. It was kind of fenced in with iron work fences and nice landscaping. Classy pub.

Great little place in town that is open now all year long. I really enjoyed the special but was looking at the Lunenburger thinking I should have tried that. The menu is deep — probably could use some focus on shortening it a bit. The staff are great. The place is clean. TV’s playing sports in the background, great beer on draft, overall just a nice place to spend an evening. Can hardly wait to try it in the summer!

Wow. What a disappointment. I’m sad that this was such a bad experience. The outside of the restaurant and the large«nova scotia selects» logos plastered everywhere, gave me such high hopes. Considering there were not many other sit down restaurants open for supper, we were kind of stuck with this one. I was determined it would be good and not spoil our Lunenburg day trip. Well, I was wrong. Upon entering the tiny spot, we could tell they were busy with one large group. So it did take them a few minutes to realize our arrival. No problem. Being seated next to the extremely large and loud group when all of the window-beautiful view– tables were free… problem. But whatever, I can get over that. With one wait staff being completely devoted to this group, you think they other one would have picked up the other tables, but no. No problem, I know what it’s like to be busy. So waiting for service was not the worst. The worst was the food. hands down. Being a fish lover, R. and I decided to both get fish. He was craving fish and chips, with a description that boasted«hand dipped in beer batter» and«fresh to order». And I chose the fish cakes because they were a mix of haddock and cod, and usually when restaurants have these on the menu they do them right. Well…judging by the speedy arrival of our food, I questioned whether these were really made fresh to order. R.‘s fish looked terrrrrrible. Super dry and over battered. And with a side of… frozen fries and I’m sure Sysco supplied coleslaw. Overall, he said it was just a terrible meal. The fishcakes? Incredibly bland. Was there any fish in these? well… there was because I would get a hard chewy chunk in my mouth every once in a while, reminiscent of old haddock. And the«cake» part was not smoothly done potatoes, it was gigantic hard chunks. Not the best texture for fish cakes. The«chow» was decent, but the tartar sauce was Kraft which did not compliment the fish cakes at all. Side salad was actually done well, kudos on that. The one great thing about this resto was that they have an amazingly locally soured drinks list. With many maritime wines and beers. And they seem to be the spot to come for a drink. I would skip the food. for $ 50…I wished I would have put some more money with it and gone to one of the higher end places.

The Grand Banker is my favourite spot in Lunenburg to grab a bite to eat and enjoy a cold drink(or warm!) no matter the season. Tucked up on the hill side overlooking the Fisheries Museum, it gives a perfect vantage point to enjoy the harbourfront. The menu has something for everyone and service is always fantastic and attentive. The food is always fresh, hot, flavourful and abundant. You won’t walk away hungry. One neat touch is that cold drinks(at least iced tea) come served in mason jars. I highly recommend the Grand Banks Fish & Chips, the Caesar salad and the Banker Classic Burger. My mouth is watering just thinking about that last one. They know how to do a burger right. I’ve tried most of the other establishments in Lunenburg and by far the Grand Banker is my favourite. It has the right mix of everything for a great dining experience and won’t break the bank. If you want a varied menu, local tastes and flavours, friendly service and bang for your buck then drop by the Grand Banker.

The Grand Banker is … okay. After spending the afternoon roasting in the beautiful hot sun in «downtown» Lunenburg, I wanted to go somewhere air conditioned. Grand Banker’s menu looked promising so we gave it a try. It was indeed cool and dark inside. The décor is simple with some sepia photos of old ships on the walls. Their menu is limited, although they have an extensive drink selection. We both gave the special a try: lemon baked haddock with choice of side. We both chose the salad. The fish was nice and fresh, but the salad? Was spinach(which is fine) with cranberries, almonds and red onion(not fine). We weren’t given a choice of salad or dressing. I picked at the spinach and left the creamy poppyseed-looking dressing, which had fortunately been served on the side. We decided to skip their desserts. We actually had a hankering for ice cream cones at the Fishermen’s Museum. :-D Service is friendly and knowledgeable, the food was fresh and prompt, and prices were reasonable. However, with so many restaurants to choose from in Lunenburg in the summer we will be sure to consult Unilocal before our next trip. How could I have forgotten?

Ah the Grand Banker… a perfect hangout right on the waterfront(great view!). I lived in Lunenburg for a month while training on a ship in the harbour. My shipmates and i spent several nights a week at the Banker and tried the beer, the wine, some food, cocktails, ice cream… One of my favorites was the hot chocolate. Perfect to warm you up on a damp spring evening. My staple foods were the nachos and potato skins. Yum! Atmosphere was great. You can sit infront of the huge windows overlooking the harbour. There are several comfy booths, or you can pull up a stool at the bar. The best night of the week was Saturday, Trivia Night! Order your pitcher of beer and get your team ready for some tricky questions. This isn’t your typical automated trivia game. Prizes ranged from Beer Glasses to baseball hats to toques and scarves. But it was always SUPERFUN! Beware: they are only open seasonally. Closed for the winter months.

M. and I headed in here last week for a spot of lunch and were only so-so on the experience. My seafood chowder was pretty yummy although quite buttery. Mark enjoyed his sammich although he received it with fries instead of the requested salad. We both enjoyed the Grand Banker beer. Pretty setting, almost directly on the waterfront in Lunenburg.
