We didn’t get the chance to taste the food but did get a taste of serive there and it wasnt good at all. The server was rude and we felt unwelcomed so we left right after being sitted. The long story is that we arrived around 9:20pm for dinner and were offered to seat near window. Feeling cold we asked to move to one of the empty tables closer to the heat. The server resisted and told us this is a table for 5 not 3. Which was done in the worst manner possible. So we decided to leave but were told we can move to a table after another guest moved, i think volunteerly to help accomodating us. So we ended up sitting but the then the server handed us the menue with the rudest manner possible almost dropping it. And that was the limit for us so we left. I would never go to a place to be served like that even if it is for heavenly food.

Really love their sushi here, it’s my favorite in London. Though it’s a bit pricey, I really do enjoy it and find it a worthwhile splurge every now and then. Never been a fan of ramen so not the best person to comment. Though out of all the ramen places I’ve been to from London and Toronto, they do a pretty decent job. Great rice dishes too!

I eat a fair amount of ramen in Toronto and London’s Sakata could be part of the discussion. Instead of trying to disguise broth and noodles as ramen, Sakata has a soup with a thick, salty broth and all the fixings. The pork was particularly good and the egg was cooked soft. The spring rolls weren’t bad either and the ipad ordering system is a bit fun. It’s nice to know I don’t have to drive 2 hours to get a decent bowl of ramen anymore.

I have probably been to Sakata over 20 times since it opened a few years ago. This place is consistently good! I usually order their tonkotsu ramen or beef curry rice as a main and split a few appetizers with friends. My favorite appetizers here are the grilled squid and baked oysters– so yummy! Will keep going until I graduate.

Sakata had a special place in my heart. Mostly because my boyfriend constantly wants to come here for ramen every time he comes to visit and I have a love-hate relationship with coming to this place at least once every 2 weeks. However, the ramen is on point and actually really well priced. It comes with an egg, mushrooms, pork belly and a couple of other things for about $ 10. That’s a pretty good price, especially compared to GTA places where every topping is like another dollar. The rolls are the best in London from my experience and are fairly huge. There’s a just right amount of rice and the sashimi is also quite good. Only downfall is that $ 10 for a single roll is still a bit pricy and they don’t really have a lot of sushi/sashimi sets to order from. You basically end up having to order a lot of one at a time and it adds up. Service is solid and bonus points for gorgeous tableware !

This place has the freshest sushi in all of London, Ontario. Ozen and Gozen got nothin’ on this place. My friends usually order the ramen and such, but I go for the sushi, because the fish is so fresh. I’ve been here at least 4 times, and have never been disappointed in the quality of the food here. The only downfall is the service. Though it’s not terrible, it could use some work; there have been a few times where service was slow. Be sure to make reservations during peak meal hours on weekends, as this place gets packed and you’ll have to wait in the narrow doorway for a table. If you’re looking for an a la carte sushi meal in London, this is the place to go.

A ramen restaurant in the middle of London, Ontario? Gotta give it a try. The Unilocal reviews look great. I walked down Richmond Street for several blocks, so I was pretty hungry when I arrived. There were no other patrons when I arrived, so I had the choice of any seat in the restaurant. I decided to sit indoors as it was summertime and I didn’t want to sit on the patio where it was hot. I ordered two dishes: the fried calamari and the miso tonkatsu ramen. I love calamari, but I was a little disappointed with this dish. I didn’t really like the mayo that it was decorated with. The ramen was decent. I liked that there were tons on ingredients in the dish. The egg was nice and soft in the middle, the tonkatsu was good, but the broth was salty. Let’s just say that I drank a lot of water to compensate. Overall, the food was just okay. But it’s probably the best that London, ON has to offer.

Not bad for a Japanese restaurant, especially in London but I’ve definitely had better. I’ve gotten a variety of their sushis, the Ramen and the Curry Don. I have to say that the food is pretty darn good and very filling. The portions are pretty good. For sushi, I would recommend the Sakata roll, which has a rich flavour that is not too dense but not too light either as well as the Black Dragon roll. Also, another cool bit about the restaurant is that they use iPad menus and ordering, which is nice.

Best tuna I have eaten in 10 years living in London. Ramen had a very flavourful broth, components all were cooked perfectly. All appetizers came fast, hot and delicately prepared. An exceptional experience.

My most recent visit to Sakata has completely swayed my decision on ramen forever! Having visited the other location, I wasn’t overly excited about my choice of chicken ramen. It was good but I just couldn’t understand why people were so gung-ho about it. Then I tried the bbq pork ramen. POW! It was awesome! Tons of taste and lots of great ingredients. When we arrived at Sakata, we were greeted quickly and seated. We ordered some tea which was very hot(yay!). The cups the tea was poured in really soaked in the heat so they were a bit difficult to pick up at first. The food came quickly and we happily enjoyed it. I did notice the waiter pacing back and forth quite a bit which was a little distracting. Overall, I cannot wait to return to this location again. The food was great and I really liked the atmosphere. Like the other location, the ipad ordering is a bit overkill for such a menu but I’ll let it slide since I know exactly what I will be getting next time.

I had the miso ramen with beef. Yummy! It definitely hit the spot on a chilly fall day — not to mention — was decently priced, too! Oh, and using the iPad to order was kind of neat and really simple to figure out.

This place is another in a long line of London establishments which reinforces the mediocrity of the London food scene. I ordered Shio Ramen and a California Roll. The Shio Ramen was a little less than okay. I wouldn’t say it was inedible, but it certainly wasn’t very fun to eat(and isn’t the whole point of eating ramen to have fun?). From what I recall, the broth was quite bland– a cardinal sin in ramen. I mean, the name Shio means«Salt broth» and it was very underseasoned. That, to me, ruined the dish. The noodles weren’t terrible, they were nice and chewy and, if I recall, the meat wasn’t bad– I’ve had better and I’ve had worst. If I was to compare this ramen to a Toronto establishment, it might be a hair better than Kenzo(I don’t recommend Kenzo at all). The california roll was… bizarre. I think there were some sprouts in it and it made the experience of the california roll there unique(in a not so flattering way). This place isn’t the worst Asian food in London, but it does not give an authentic or satisfying experience. The prices would be on par with the food if the food was actually prepared properly, but the experience felt overpriced for the quality of food I had eaten. I’m glad I gave it a chance, but I will probably never come here again unless the kitchen seriously reevaluated its conception of ramen.

We had been meaning to try this place for a while and figured 7:30 on a Sunday night would be a good time to avoid any lineups. There are about 10 tables in the whole place(it had been raining all day, so the patio wasn’t open) and there were two groups ahead of us. The first thing I noticed was the lack of service. We stood waiting for someone to seat us, but no one came, so we flagged down one of the servers and asked if we could sit at one of the vacant tables. We were told we could sit where we liked and that someone would be right out with a menu. We waited another 10 minutes. The menu was an efficient iPad ordering system. We ordered and the server came right away to whisk it away. I ordered the salmon and butterfish sashimi. It was a bit pricey — $ 7 and $ 6 respectively –for three pieces, however they were decently sized and good quality. I feel that this place could be great with a bit better organization because by the look of other reviews and my own personal experience, the food is awesome.

We were excited that London had a place where you can get Ramen. The ambience was nice, there were seating in the patio and indoors, nicely decorated. IPad menu — similar to those of all you can eat in Mississauga/Toronto. Actually even other places in London such as sushi 168 has it. Service is great! Very attentive! For dinner we ordered Spicy Tonkotsu Ramen, Curry Chicken Don and Tako Yaki. My husband really enjoyed his Chicken Don the proportion was huge. Tako Yaki was decent! Unfortunately my Spicy Ramen wasn’t terribly spicy(see pic), the sliced pork was cold in the center, and there weren’t many fresh vegetables. Sushi on the other hand, actually looked pretty good. Maybe next time we’ll try that. Random point: I believe the woman server that day was the same server from Wonder Sushi(near Western and also Highbury) years ago when it first opened! Did she buy a new restaurant? Lol. Overall experience was ok. :)

On my last visit to London, I was hungry and definitely needed something warm to eat to help battle the terrible winter chill that had found it’s way into my bones. I had passed this spot the day before and made a mental note of it given my recent first experience with Ramen at a top rated Toronto shop. Found myself here(mostly due to it’s proximity to my hotel) and decided to go in for lunch. It’s a fair sized space and modern looking building, could easily seat 25 – 30 people, maybe even more. It was pretty empty for a late weekday lunch, save for another table or two of people. I sat down and set the menu aside deciding to base my choices off of Unilocal reviews. After viewing the pictures and reading some of the more enthusiastic reviews, I decided to go for the short ribs and the spicy ramen. The short ribs came sizzling to my table after a short wait. They were unbelievable! Thick, well marinated, piping hot and the portion was massive(I could have had this and a salad and been totally good for lunch), easily the best short ribs I’ve ever had — 5 star! The spicy ramen came out next, and while good I found it to be very salty and not as good as I had, had previously. It was still ‘ok’ as the spice was very nice and the noodles were cooked well, but between the salty broth and the suspicious looking egg(it appeared old and not freshly boiled), I would have to award this dish a 3 star(maybe even a little less). Overall, the experience was still very good, if not for the short ribs, it might have been a little less, but they were definitely some of the best I’ve eaten. Eatcrest Out

This is a somewhat small space so reservations recommended. Their edamame is served with spicy flakes on it which was a nice change. Sashimi was very fresh and large pieces — definitely getting your money’s worth. Sushi rolls have a great proportion of fish to rice, though wasn’t a fan of the mayo on my green dragon roll(I’d ask for less next time). DEFINITELY try the sesame ice cream(but be careful of black lips)! Highly recommend as a great a la carte sushi place!

MMMMMMRAAAMEENNZZ! Leave it up to me to find an iPad order ramen place in London… but it exists! Very cozy on the inside, I can totally see this place poppin in the summer cuz they have those garage glass window kinda doors that roll up and you’re sitting inside a restaurant WITHNOWALL. YEAH. Try that on for size. There’s a patio too. Other than it being right on a busy street — aka CO2 in your ramen — everything looks great! Very exciting aps, we tried: — the squid(huge portion, very well sauced and cooked to perfection), — fried calamari(great presentation, the taste was whatever… too much breading. comes with chipotle sauce) — ramen(good. i have had better — this was OK. broth not thick enough. egg not runny enough. not enough meat. like 3⁄5) — a rice thing in a stone bowl, with egg? I didn’t try this. Looked good though! — galbi /grilled beef short ribs(yeeeeee. nomz. good. i like) — TONGUE. Grilled beef tongue. i loooooved this one. devoured the whole thing myself. Would go again, would not order the calamari! there are so many other better, more unique options.

For a long while, if you had a ramen craving in London, good luck. All the ramen that was available was either instant or awful. I had the Spicy ramen and it was delicious: D. The service was super nice and everyone was so friendly. They also allow you to order your food on an iPad, which sometimes makes it easier for people who don’t know exactly what they are getting into(Japanese food n00bs) The portion size is just right and at $ 10 bucks a bowl, you really can’t beat the price. Definitely worth a try and a return visit
