Good not great. I’d consider this place to be generally above average as far as local Chinese(cantonese cuisine) fare goes. I’ve been here a number of times over the past several years and it’s changed names and presumably owners over that period. I just had dinner there this evening and the place was full — and it’s the first time I’ve seen it full in quite some time(though I’m told it was convocation for one of the local universities tonight) — and remarkably they were all Chinese people. Dinner tonight was actually pretty good — and I’d even call myself a fan and rate it four stars if it weren’t the fact that I know that it’s sometimes a bit inconsistent. They haven’t invested in the space and service can be spotty(it seems whenever we come here, there are two women who are both the wait staff and the cashiers — I suspect they may even do some of the cooking as they disappear into the back for long durations at a time). They’re nice though, so you can’t help but like them. They post their specials up on the wall on dry erase boards(some in Chinese), but we almost consistently order the gai-lan veggies, what they call«grouper with tofu, xo-sauce in hotpot» and«seafood birds nest»(latter two with pictures posted). I found the food to be pretty tasty though a couple of them were perhaps a bit salty, and the veggies to be fresh this evening. They generally charge somewhere between $ 8.99−16.99 per dish. The cost for 5 of us(2 female adults, 3 male adults) where we had 5 dishes plus a large bowl of white rice, was $ 60 pre tax and tip. It’s a relatively small location, only maybe 4 – 5 large tables, and several small ones. Because of the staffing, be aware that while the food I think generally is decent you may be in for a wait. I’ve even seen people drop by for pickup who have waited longer than our family has for dinner while we’ve eaten there(though in fairness when they did get the order it seemed like quite a large takeout order with several large full bags). I’ve never been there for lunch but they do offer a buffet for lunch — and I should also note by virtue of their location there isn’t any other Chinese restaurant nearby in the neighbourhood. Generally, I think it’s ok — even pretty good sometimes. Good for variety as far as local fare goes, just be prepared to wait.
