Dinner with a co-worker this past week was a let down. I ordered the Caesar Salad with Anchovies and was excited to see Anchovies on the menu. When the salad came there were what looked like three tiny tips of the filet in salad. I asked the waitress for extra and her response was«We will have to charge you for them.» So I showed her the three tips and said, «I really don’t think charging me will be necessary.» She said she’d have to «ask», two minutes later she came back with a side dish with what looked like the entire can dumped in it! My colleague had the roasted red pepper soup. He said it was good. The Spaghetti Bolognese was the biggest disappointment. First the presentation looked like something I’d do when cooking it for myself. Thrown in a bowl and sauced. Meanwhile my colleague’s chicken came out looking very nicely presented. The pasta was over cooked to the point where it was starting to break down. Definitely not al-dente. The sauce lacked the prime ingredient, meat! I even asked the waitress what/where was the protein. The dish had more mushrooms than meat. When served traditionally, the pasta is sauced gently and then a generous helping of meat sauce is placed on the top. If service is in a bowl or a bowl dish most kitchens would send it out with the bowl on a plate. Finally, if you don’t drink alcohol be aware you are charged for refills. My colleague said the tea wasn’t very good. The bill came to $ 44 for one with a salad, pasta and one glass of Chianti. I can say I ate there, but probably won’t be back there on my own.

Chris is a great cook! Very flavourful pasta and sauces. My favourite pasta is the gnocchi with a blush sauce with some added chicken breast. Another service I appreciate is the takeaway chicken dinners. Lots of food for one person but I was able to have lunch and dinner the next day. Fresh ingredients used. Dining atmosphere is quite nice especially when there is the live jazz band. Great place to take a date. Be careful going downstairs to washroom they are steep!

Very nice Friday evening meal. The décor is warm and inviting, a significant upgrade to it’s predecessor, the old Sunset Restaurant. Seating and lighting comfortable. Live band nice but a little loud to allow for conversation. Service slightly delayed on entry, and to receive our initial drink order(we went directly to the wine), although the dining room was only 50% occupied. Once attended to, wait staff were pleasant and accommodating. Wine selection good and not overpriced. Appetizers calabrese salad excellent, and fresh. Interesting to note we could smell the fresh garlic emanating from the kitchen as the ceaser salad was prepared. Dressing was house made and delicious. We both had pasta and meatballs and it was delicious as well, serving size perfect, with a fresh tomato sauce. Closed with the chocolate-rasperry tartufo which was perfect after the garlic and tomato infused dishes. We will return.

Stopped by for dessert. Service excellent. Had the chocolate cake which was definitely great. I plan to return for dinner another day. Ambiance is good, and they are setting up for live music.

Almost a 5… Ideal setting on Kincardine’s main street with a nicely remodeled interior from what used to be the Sunset restaurant. Sun bleeds through the windows at dinner time creating a cozy environment. My wife and I started our dining experience with cocktails, both of which were perfect for our individual tastes.(Mine was a black martini, whereas my wife’s was an ambrosia.) After cocktails, we shared a superb caesar that had excellent presentation along with being perfectly balanced on taste, some bruschetta and calamari. My wife found the calamari too spicy for her taste, but I thought it was superb. Texture was impressive — the calamari was cooked perfectly — though I can see how the taste could be overwhelming. Wait staff should probably forewarn folks on this item, though I would suggest it is more than worth the risk. For our main course, my wife and I enjoyed a steak, Italian-style, and gnocchi. I thought both were decent for what they were, but I need to remember to stop ordering steak at Italian restaurants. That being said, the sauce was superb. The gnocchi was extremely rich and a little overpowering with regard to the taste. We ended dinner with an incredible chocolate and raspberry ice cream dessert that was unlike anything I have ever tasted. Absolutely incredible. Overall, staff at this restaurant are delightful. Food is a slight notch below some of the top restaurants I have been to in my travels around the world. Ambiance is impeccable. Some subtle changes to their main courses would have made this restaurant a 5 for me. But that’s not to complain: Going to Kincardine without visiting the Tramonto means that you just don’t like food.
