We went here for Sunday brunch. Limited menu, but it was very good. We had eggs Benedict(great biscuits) and brisket hash(with an extra egg). Service was prompt and friendly. It looks like a lot of thought was put into the décor and tableware. The only con was a lack of espresso machine. However, the server encouraged me to go across the street to get my fix and bring it back to the table to enjoy with breakfast. Overall, we were very happy with the brunch experience. Great job!

The Salted Brick is the real deal, an authentic, bona-fide genuine article. It’s like Christopher Walken and John Malkovich opened a restaurant together and then filled it with cured meat. I’ve reviewed every type of establishment, from sandwich shops to expensive bistros, and I’ve always stated my favorites to be those intimate locations where you connect directly with the chef, where the décor channels the passion of the person making your food. I go out to dine for three good reasons, to be pampered in opulence, to enjoy home cooking that I can’t enjoy at home, and as a close third… to boast that I’m a food blogger in order to receive preferential treatment. I’m nothing if not blunt. Salted Brick isn’t about a detached owner in another city paying a chef to work from a premade menu. You’re relating with people personally invested in the dishes being sold. It occurs rarely in this business. You can tell the cook loves his/her profession and wants to share that. They offer the illusion you’re the first customer, even if it’s end of day. The Salted Brick isn’t in the top ten of restaurants in Kelowna according to the review sites like Zomato and Trip Advisor, proving once again how unreliable they can be, biased to cheap cafes and lunch bars over legitimate gold mines like Salted Brick. It was in Kelowna that I verified a tactic in finding the best places to eat… ask a chef. Seriously, ask restaurants for recommendations. You’d be surprised at the comradery and support they’d offer supposed competition. I had a similar experience in Calgary, which originated the theory. I might have avoided the Salted Brick if it wasn’t for the insight. On its surface, it’s simplistic. Less than fifteen feet wide and forty feet long – the kitchen is wholly exposed, with every utensil and apparatus displayed. These are not for show – there is no back room. It’s by no means a fine-dining destination. All the tables line up against one wall – patrons select either the communal bench or the insanely uncomfortable green stools that felt like sitting on an opened sandwich press. It’s not pretty; it’s functional… for the cooks that is, like the entire restaurant is the kitchen and we’re squeezing in where we can as private guests of the chef rather than sitting with the philistines in the dining area. It’s the western variation of a sushi bar, where there’s no intimate conversation between patrons. Chances are you’re going to be involved in a conversation with a stranger that is about to serve you amazing food. The menus are hand written on paper, changing constantly, and on the day I arrived, found eight options to choose from, that’s it. They offered fresh oysters, a sandwich or two, a few salads, and a hand constructed charcuterie, a staple, which I ended up selecting. The girlfriend meanwhile ordered the confit chicken, bean sprout, radish, pea shoot salad with rhubarb dressing and topped with parmesan. Full disclosure: my presence as a food blogger was known during the experience. Because I told them. I don’t by general policy. It came up naturally in the conversation, meaning I wanted a good experience, so naturally I brought it up. Okay, seriously, it came up as result of having an extended conversation with the chef… that’s what happens. The charcuterie was an extensive board of homemade meats, local artisan cheeses along with a handful of preserves, and served with bread, a fantastic value at $ 14. And I mean fantastic. I counted three cheeses, six meats, and eight preserves including olives – barely leaving an inch left on the board. After the meal, we were treated to a pair of blue-cheese-filled dates. The Salted Brick was one of two restaurants I visited on a recent road trip(the other being in Banff) that crystalized an unfortunate truth: that there are some restaurants I may never encounter in my hometown. Posh fine-dining, steak joints, ethnic cuisine, they all exist in Prince George. Don’t get me wrong, we have places that serve artisan sandwiches and cheese boards. But to have a whole restaurant dedicated mostly to charcuterie… that’s as crazy as Donnie Darko. Most people in small towns don’t think, «Let’s go for lunch – I got an hour and have a hankerin’ for oysters!» Please prove me wrong. Until, I may have to consider moving. FANTASTIC! This place has an awesome vibe, excellent severs and even better food. We are foodies and were not disappointed. One of the best salads I’ve ever had, outstanding clams and a decadent artisan cheese board with fresh and dried fruit pairings. Yum! We will be back! Gratitude.

An Indiana summer, one of those summers that seems to last forever. It was a late August, the sweet evening breeze blowing on shore. I never thought moments like this ever happened in real life, I’ve seen it in movies or heard it in Beach Boys songs. This was the real summer’s dream. Side by side alone on the sand, the setting sun spreading a peach jam across the cloudless sky. When I sit down now to write this to you, the moment is just as fresh as the moment. I only wish… sorry gtg.

Stopped in here for lunch while passing through Kelowna. I think we were expecting more. Its a good location. We chose to sit in front of the window to enjoy the view of the harbor. The ‘menu’ was just a crumply piece of paper with the names and prices of the plates they were serving. Zero description, and no descriptions were offered until asked. How the hell am I suppose to know what a Plowmans lunch is? There was also no drink menu given, so I had to go up and inquire about wines… They were also out of a few of the main dishes in the already limited selection. My husband and I ordered a few items off the menu to share. The presentation was lovely, but when it comes down to it, it was short of gourmet. The Characturie Board was nice and simple, enjoyed the variety. The blue cheese dates were good, but lacking in texture and didn’t seem well rounded — it needs a nut pairing — something. And the brie and pear sandwich is served on a very tough baguette which completely ruined the other delicate ingredients, which simply were pear and brie. Both of us had sore jaws from chewing and eventually we just stopped and picked the pear and brie off. Prices were reasonable. But we would not go back, or recommend.

This place is a super good lunch spot, there daily sandwich specials are great, lots of value for the price your paying. I would only go for lunch, tried the dinner service and it was overpriced for not a lot of food. I will definitely continue to go there for lunch.

Excellent food. Very good value. Service was a little slow, hence the 4 stars and not 5. Ordered the brisket sandwich and salad to share. Both were absolutely delicious. Very generous portions. This will be my go to restaurant every time I come to kelowna :)

A closet with a glass window displays the fresh made charcuterie. Purchases of their cheese meats sauces and others may be purchased from the case at the front. Food was presented in an eye catching way. Open kitchen concept meant we watched our food be prepared. Great conscientious cooks. Our server was a little off but friendly and welcoming. The wood and brick décor suited. Felt like being in a trendy restaurant in New York. Sadly very few patrons on. Saturday night enjoying the delicious made food. A different menu each day reflecting available local food. Overall impressed. Nice touch that the ‘mirror’ over the washroom sink is just a black painted canvas that reads«You look fine!»

I want one of everything, and then I’m going to come back the next day and start over. Then I’m going to do it again. Boyfriend and I came here for brunch on the weekend and LOVED it! The space is tiny and adorable, and the kitchen area(also tiny!) is completely exposed, which makes it super fun as you can watch them using all their teeny appliances to make your food! It would be lovely if they had mirrors on the wall so you could see them from both sides of the table, though, as boyfriend did miss out on the fun. We were greeted by a super friendly server and took a seat in the back to avoid the chilly November air. She explained that their menu changes every day, depending on what’s fresh and exciting, which I completely adore! Knowing that you can go back again and again and always get something new is super cool! The only downside is that you might love something and not be able to get it again — but I feel like everything they make is just wonderful! I grabbed the eggs benedict, and boyfriend got the caramelised carrot/egg/arugula/gruyère delight! We were hungry so we got a half meat plate to start. It came with a lovely fresh chunk of bread(locally made daily, just up the street), some great grainy mustard, green olives, homemade pickled veggies that were very mild but SO good, and four slices each of 3 kinds of sausage, and tenderloin — all were excellent! My benedict was ridiculous. Totally insane homemade biscuit topped with tasty ham, perfectly poached eggs, and a rich, creamy, true hollandaise sauce — no «hollandaise» that’s actually just cheese sauce here! Boyfriend’s brunch was also divine, very light as there were no carbs at all, which left him a little peckish afterwards, but that’s his fault for not taking advantage of the crazy good hash browns! The caramelised carrots paired perfectly with the sharp cheese and the spicy arugula, and the creaminess of the egg and cheese just melded into an ooey-gooey delight! We also ordered two beers(it was a 2pm brunch, ok?!) and they have Tree amber ale on tap, and a good selection of local bottles too. We both really enjoyed our choices, and I look forward to trying more! I can’t wait to go back — this place blew my mind!

I’m torn on this place. I love what they’re trying to do. The food, overall, is quite good. The service is hit-or-miss. Recent highlights have included the oysters, duck confit, and blue cheese salad. What’s wrong with this place? Well, I agree with some other reviewers in saying that the supposed star of the show here, the charcuterie, could be a lot better. Don’t get me wrong: for Kelowna to have a small-plates bistro focusing on in-house charcuterie made with high-quality meat is a definite step in the right direction. Unfortunately, I have often found that the saucisson sec is just not«sec» enough, that a lot of the salamis don’t seem to be cured at all. and the vivid colours and intense flavours of freshly-cured meat seem to be lacking. If you’re new to charcuterie and live in the Kelowna area, definitely give them a try, but great charcuterie(i.e., black hoof, oyama sausage co., IMO) this is not(yet). Hopefully with time and practice that will change. To be honest though, if you focus on the food(cheese selection is AWESOME, food is fresh and well-prepared) and drinks(the $ 6 old fashioned has to be the best drink deal in this city) you won’t leave disappointed.

During a short trip to Kelowna, we stayed in the main city area for the night. After checking out of the hotel, we decided to walk around to find somewhere that may have brunch. We passed by this little place and were intrigued by it’s new-ish feel. Atmosphere: For those who are from Vancouver, it felt like a part of Gastown was placed in Kelowna when you see the place. It’s got the rustic feel, sort of hipster. It’s small but cute. Service: It was OK. The waitress was SUPER nice and helpful with the menu. But I felt like we waited a lot for our meal and for our bill. Our waitress seemed a bit distracted at times when we were trying to grab her attention — kept passing by us even though we kept calling her. Nonetheless, both the owner and waitress were very friendly. Food: Again, it was OK, probably since it’s typical food we’d get in a Gastown restaurant. We ordered the Benny, the Ploughmans Lunch and the date. The date was super yummy — warm, buttery stuffed with cheese, YUM. The benny lacked«oomph,» it really needed more seasoning although the side salad was really good. I tend to like ketchup with my side of potatoes was pretty bummed that they don’t serve any — not sure if this was a management decision, but even if you made some house made tomato sauce, your potatoes would’ve tasted so much better! The Ploughmans lunch was basically a plate of their in house made meats, some cheeses and condiments. It was a LOT more food than we were expecting and one of the highlights of the meal. We wish we only ordered one brunch item and something smaller since it was too much food for my partner and I! Overall, I thought the experience and food was just OK. A feel small things like more seasoning and condiments, along with slightly better service would’ve made the experience better.

What a pleasant treat to have found this gem… New menu daily, local and fresh ingredients, and a friendly staff to top it off! Try any of the fresh salads and sandwiches, can’t go wrong! Also be sure to get the artisan and meat charcuterie plates, amaze-balls. They have some great wine to pair with the patio… Boom.

Was in town for a wedding, needed a small yet hearty lunch before the reception. This place for the bill. I saw they had their castelvetrano olives in their take-away fridge. Asked if I could just have a bowl as an appy, server said yes! So buttery and mild.(Great service, by the by.) I had the salad with Blue cheese and bacon, boyfriend had the 16-hr brisket sandwich with grainy mustard. Would order both again. This place is in the best location, right by the lake, with a nice breeze coming through the patio. Word to the squeamish: they work in an open kitchen. One guy was slicing the meat and organs off a pig’s head. I found it fascinating, but some night not enjoy that while they eat.

The place smells wonderful as soon as you walk in. The charcuterie was nicely arranged and delicious — a surprisingly varied assortment of meats. Perfect textures. The bread was amazingly good. Be prepared for slightly gamey taste of the meat — not what you might be expecting but delicious, natural. The accompanying flavors(apple butter, fig jam) were overly mild, perhaps to not overpower the subtle flavors of the meats.
