I went last week for dinner with my BF I had a wag jag deal, first time and I will be going again. It was so good and the price was reasonable I couldn’t believe for a Thursday it was busy

A five star restaurant located on Barton. Excellent quality food, fair prices and a beautiful warm décor. Do not hesitate, make reservations and check out the Purple Pear.

Like a vortex, the allure of this place keeps drawing us back in. This is the second time we’ve been here in less than 30 days. Instead of the mussels, we went with the escargot. They were served with a buttery garlic sauce and topped with a layer of cheese. Escargot are an acquired taste in general, so don’t expect these to change the world if you’re not a fan to begin with. While my fiancé wasn’t too adventurous and stuck with his tried and true surf and turf, I went out on a whim and ordered the rack of lamb. Boy am I glad I did. The lamb was succulent and cooked to a perfect medium rare. Unlike the ribeye it was perfectly seasoned with a hint of mint glaze, I was afraid it would be overwhelming, it wasn’t. My only complaint is that if you want to take home leftovers, the waiters toss the sides(vegetables and potatoes) without letting you know. I worked hard at making sure I had left an even plate of lamb and sides so imagine my disappointment when I got home. Not a deal breaker, but I’ll have to remember to tell them to pack it all, sides included! Hope you guys give this place a try, I know I’ll be back again, soon…

Stopped by while travelling through Hamilton — looking for a steak and I found it! The décor is somewhat dated(Hello, 1970!) but it is comfortable and there is enough space to accommodate groups. The wine list is thin — mostly low end and standard LCBO stock items, so don’t look for inspiration there. The menu is fitting the establishment — standard fare classics, reasonably priced, which is nice. We started with the caesar salad — pretty ordinary, but it came quickly. Then on to the main course — the ribeye steak. This was definitely the highlight of the meal, properly cooked, nice flavor, decent quality meat. The sides were disappointing at best — plain steamed vegetables, mashed potatoes that resembled a blob of Elmers glue, and some overly frizzled onions. On the whole, the value is kind of there because the steak wasn’t overpriced, but that was about the only really good part of the meal, everything else was mediocre at best. Service was prompt and friendly, the music was kept low enough so that you could enjoy conversation. The place isn’t bad, it just isn’t great. But the steak was pretty good.

I visited Purple Pear with my girlfriend for an early Valentine’s Day celebration and we were very happy with our selection. Purple Pear has a very nice atmosphere and the service was beyond excellent — friendly, attentive, funny and polite — one of the highlights of the night. We actually bought a three-course special price meal through Travelzoo so we were uneasy on how we might get treated when we arrived however were blown away with the excellent service and welcoming staff. The food was excellent, my steak was cooked perfectly and my girlfriend’s pork tenderloin was excellent. We split a bottle of white wine, had dessert, and each had a shrimp cocktail to start — all three were excellent. I will visit again and would recommend to friends and family.
