I love eating here!!! The food is so delicious the prices are reasonable and the atmosphere is just outstanding. Every time I walk in there I feel like they treat you like you are the most important customer that they have ever had. They’re l so polite and patient it really reminds you that that’s something you look for in restaurant staff. The sushi, no matter what style you order it will be one that you love. Throw a little bit of shrimp tempura on the side and you got yourself a party haha. I don’t know many places in Halifax that actually serve Ramen but I have had it a few places and this restaurant hands down, by leaps and bounds, is the best in the city. So my suggestion is anybody who wants to try some amazing sushi or if you’ve never had Ramen before or maybe you had bad Ramen and you want to know a good Ramen taste like, visit this restaurant you will be happy you did.

We had no idea which Sushi restaurant to dine at… We decided to come here since hearing from a few friends this is one of their fave sushi restaurants in Halifax. I walked in with a very pleasant and warm welcome by the server. I ordered my usual dynamite roll, vegetable roll, sumo mono and kaico. My hubby ordered beef roll, dynamite roll, sumo mono and Kaico. We were both pleased with the service and the food which is why I give them a five star.

Great spot for dinner or lunch. The wait staff is very friendly and helpful. Ramen comes in a huge bowl as it should and great for a quick lunch. The fish is very fresh and specials change all the time. Only downside is the parking lot doesn’t have much room as they and other businesses are busy and located in a bit of an awkward spot.

This is the best ramen joint in Halifax, in my opinion. I also love their sushi, everything is fresh, tastes great and is always plated elegantly. They always serve you quickly and are always smiling and kind. It’s clean, it’s quick, and it’s delicious. And may I add, the prices are great too. My favourite restaurant for a quiet dinner out with my man. Good thing it’s a stone’s throw away from our home.

Ordered the seafood ramen — the best I’ve tasted so far in canada. I’ve been looking for the equivalent to the authentic Japanese ramen and this is the closest I’ve found Canada. 5stars. I also ordered the tuna and salmon nigiri and sashimi. Was more than ok, 4 stars at best. It was very exquisitely prepared and presented, made me happy just seeing it.

Had the sushi twice. To be honest I don’t see the big deal about it. The taste is ok. The price is a little bit high. The place is mediocre. They do have massive sushi boats that you can order which is a very nice upside. But I just do not get the cravings for this place. I’ll try a few more times to see if they can win me over.

Came in here on a cold rainy day in the mood for something to warm me up. The ambience is nice and the owner/manager is very friendly. I had the Hokkaido ramen, which was delicious and I highly recommend it. It had tasty and decently portioned slices of pork in a spicy broth. I just wish it was on the lunch specials menu! I’ll definitely come here again when I have the chance.

Excellent food and friendly service every time my family and I eat here. The ramen is tasty and the rolls are fresh and well crafted. Great value for the quality and we have eaten Japanese all over the world. This place is our new favourite in Halifax. Highly recommend!

I’ve been to too many sushi restaurants. Therefore I’m the picky one. I’d say the restaurant is good. Sushi there taste good too. If you are around and looking for a place for sushi, go and give it a try. Ramen there is fine too.

I simply love this place. My Wife and I have gone here several times and usually get the dinner for two, which is a fantastic value for the price. The food quality is very good, and the service is always quick and friendly. The only reason I kept the rating at 4 stars was because the décor feels much more casual than many other sushi restaurants in Halifax. Having said that, it is my only desire for improvement here — everything else exceeds my expectations, and I have always walked away knowing I’ve had a great meal at a fine place. Definitely recommend.

Once you get passed the initial confusion of thinking it’s called taco sushi, and ramen and realize it’s a Japanese restaurant it’s very good. The teriyaki was excellent and the sushi pizza is a very cool concept, instead of being rolled the sushi is laid out on a plate(crust) of rice. I highly recommend getting one to share!

Ate here three times in the last year because it’s a five minute walk from my house. Standard/average Japanese restaurant décor. Some lanterns hanging from the ceiling, Asian artwork, etc. with about 10 tables in total? I would say six four-seater booths and 4 two-seater tables down the middle. Both visits for lunch on a cold winter day and the place was half full each time. VERY friendly staff, I found they are chattier more at lunch than the evening when it can become very busy here. My most recent visit, the place was full and bustling. Good standard edamame. Good veggie spring rolls, although minimal ingredients inside, still a tasty and very hot shell with spicy dip. Very good sweet potato tempura roll. The menu itself has a wide variety of different sushi rolls, combos, etc. Licensed. Delicious banana tempura dessert with choice of ice cream. I decided to try black sesame ice cream for the first time ever here, and I will never go back to mango or green tea flavors(which I love) because this black sesame was even better. Overall, nothing unique about here at all, but not a thing wrong with the place either. I’ll go back any time I have a craving for it and am stuck home alone without the car. To make an honest comparison of Japanese restaurants in the area, I would say it is better than Happy Sushi, but one notch below Sushi Nami Royale.

Overall amazing place for sushi, ramen and other Japanese dishes! Three of us went here for supper before seeing a movie and were all extremely satisfied. The sushi was so fresh and delicious. I had maki and the rolls were totally stuffed without skimping on fish! Service was fantastic; the waiters were very friendly and considerate and came back to our table often. Great menu selection for sushi and other dishes and the prices are reasonable. The restaurant was very clean and everything looked new. Atmosphere was perfect: authentic feel, calming music and tasteful but not too fancy décor. The bathrooms are each wheelchair accessible and even the men’s has a proper change table. Definitely one of the best sushi places I’ve ever been to.

This place is amazing. I’ve eaten at most sushi spots in the city, and this one stands out from all the others. Very clean, tasty and quick. The service is so friendly and you can’t beat the enviroment/vibes. Very authentic and nothing about the food presentation is sloppy. Don’t miss out.

Tako is one of those places that is easily your«go-to» place for sushi. Tucked away in the park-west area, it seriously is a hidden gem. My standards are quite high when it comes to sushi and Japanese food, after traveling to japan. Tako, continuously reaches my standards time and time again. The sashimi is always fresh as can be, and the house rolls are creative and delicious. I find going to other sushi restaurants in the halifax area are always a hit or miss but not Tako. Kevin, the owner and the head chef, has done an amazing job, with his rolls but also creating a relaxed and authentic experience. Some places lack a seat in front where you can watch the chef at their art, but here you can watch Kevin and his apprentice do their job all while having a pleasant conversation with them. The staff in general are super knowledgable and so polite and friendly. Also, Kevin seems to have an amazing memory and always pokes fun asking«how is your boyfriend/girlfriend», when picking up take-out(they also deliver within a 3 km radius). I would highly recommend the vegetarian Tokyo ramen. It comes in a bowl with a proper ladle, authentic to how the Japanese ramen. If you don’t know how to eat ramen properly just take a look around at the others slurping their noodle. And when I say slurping I mean slurping. Also, I would recommend the New York roll!

Charming Chef-Owner who is passionate about the quality of his food, and will gladly chat with you if you like up at the sushi bar. Authentic(hard-to-find) menu items such as takoyaki and Japanese style curry rice. The BEST ramen in Halifax. The BEST curry rice, period. — — — — — — — — — — — JAPANESECURRYREVIEW — CANTSTOPWONTSTOPEATINGTHIS So, I may have prematurely written some stuff about some other local restaurants having the best Japanese Style Curry. WHOOPS! This stuff should be a controlled substance because its so addictively delicious. I know a lot of you Unilocalers in Halifax haven’t had it because A) its not a common menu item and; B) what the hell is «Japanese curry». Well. Let me introduce you to the food you’ll crave weekly for the rest of your life. If you like curry in any other form, you’ll probably like this even more. It is the quintessential Japanese home cooking, comfort food. There are as many curry recipes in Japan as their are families. I had the good fortune of living in Japan a while back and this dish was something I’d have at least once per week over there. I was genuinely sad that I couldn’t find it in Halifax for YEARS and resorted to developing my own recipe from available resources, but it just wasn’t the same! Now that I’ve found somewhere to relieve my craving, I’m just so very happy that I could write an extra long Unilocal review! While sitting at the sushi bar waiting for my order, I asked Tako’s chef, who lived and trained as a chef in Osaka, Japan, about his curry recipe and his eyes lit up as if he had been waiting a lifetime for someone to ask him about it. His version of Japanese curry is what most would consider to be «traditional Japanese»(interesting history behind this dish if you care to google it or see my link below). So the traditional form, as with most Japanese things, is simple consisting of a few expertly prepared high quality ingredients, and nothing more. In Tako Sushi & Ramen’s case, the curry sauce is the star of the show with sautéed onions to enhance the sweetness. The flavour is deep and rich, slightly sweet and it is nothing like any other curry dish you’d had. Served with a portion of rice and topped with a meat or vegetables of your choice. I recommend the Chicken or Pork Katsu curry if you haven’t tried it before and if you like it spicy, make sure to ask for it spicy! If you can convince them to throw down some extra sauce, even better. Absolutely a must try! If this sounds amazing to you, here’s a short segment about the dish’s history — — — — — — — — — — — RAMENREVIEW — A++++++ I’ve driven FAR out of my way to fill a craving for their tonkatsu ramen: A gigantic serving of deliciously firm ramen served in a long-simmered cloudy whitish pork bone based broth(called tonkotsu, not to be confused with tonkatsu pork cutlet) with a boiled egg and assorted vegetables. Also served with tonkatsu(breaded & fried pork cutlet) on the side over a bed of shredded cabbage. Makes great leftovers too! They also have miso and soy based broths for ramen. If you aren’t sure, ask the chef and he’ll probably help you figure out what you’ll like most. — — — — — — — — — — — TAKOYAKI — SOMETHINGNEWTOTRY I’ve also had their takoyaki: a small piece of boiled octopus(hear me out) in a fried ball of batter with a crunchy outer and slightly runny inside, topped with Japanese mayo(spiced with mustand and hondashi powders) and tonkatsu(bbq-ish) sauce. I don’t like boiled octopus, but I love this! I wouldn’t say it’s an «acquired» taste, but the texture of the runny batter inside may surprise you because the whole operation looks vaguely like deep fried timbits topped with sauces. When I say«surprise», I mean at first you’ll go «Ohhh Whaaat the.» and then you’ll go: «Ohhh my gaaahhhh yesss, more please». Five pieces come in an order so maybe something to try with a group. This is the Japanese equivalent of a halifax donair, because its pretty much the best thing to eat while stumbling home late at night.

A very diverse and excellent looking menu with traditional regional Japanese items. Looked very promising. I was tempted to try Ramen but felt more like sushi I ordered 4 rolls: 1) spicy dynamite– not very spicy at all! 2) fried sweet yam– nice texture and taste 3) deep fried California– batter could have been a bit crispier but good. Lots of mayo drizzle– not necessary. 4) deep fried shrimp– shrimp tasted not as fresh and crunch but done earlier in the day. My first conclusion was that the rice had less flavour and lacked that rice wine seasoning. Second conclusion was the rolls were good but not amazingly great! Third conclusion was rolls are smaller than I was expecting but typical for what I have found in NS. Overall presentation was very nice, restaurant was nicely decorated and service was very good. Maybe my expectations are elevated as I use Vancouver or Toronto sushi as my yardstick. For NS it was okay. Tax and tip it was slightly north of $ 35 for me alone!
