This is such a cute mini-mall! Spring Garden Place is in the heart of Spring Garden Road near the corner of Dresden Row. It’s easy to miss unless you see the storefront for Roots, which is likely the biggest draw for this little spot. This mall boasts a lot of specialty stores such as a flower shop and jewelry store, as well as the new location for Sock It To Ya. It also has a small food court in the lower level where there’s a café and japanese food. There’s also an entrance to Kinko’s and Scotiabank. When I go to either spot, I prefer to walk through this mall to get there. There’s not really a lot in here for someone like me, admittedly, but I simply enjoy the atmosphere and layout. Obviously it doesn’t cater to crowds or people that like to browse and window shop but there’s something about the multiple levels and décor that brings me in. There’s a few empty spaces that make my gay heart weep that could be used for something fun, as I hate to see empty spaces in a mini-mall such as this go to waste. As for what I can contribute for the services and shops in here? Admittedly, not a whole lot as the only place I’m really familiar with would be Roots but just knowing that downtown Halifax has little spaces like Spring Garden Place sprinkled here and there makes me smile. It’s little places like these that I like to discover and explore. You never know if you can find that perfect shop to suit your grandest wishes!

I’m not sure how buzzing this place is on a regular basis, but I’ve never cited much of a crowd. However, its low-key nature comes equipped with stores to follow suit. Home furnishings, floral services, jewelry stores, spa treatments, eateries, and apparel of conservative styles makes Spring Garden Place an area for speciality shopping, and perhaps, not for the every day. So when you are in the market for such offerings, the fact that it isn’t always hustle-bustle is kind of a plus. Meander your way through high quality goods to your own beat. The space itself is very clean cut, with marble floors and tasteful accents. Its certainly a mall-meets-boutique sort of set up, and compliments its company of shops quite nicely. All in all, Spring Garden Place is another great addition to the downtown area, although maybe not the spot for a typical shopping excursion.

Calling Spring Garden Place a «Place» makes a lot of sense. It doesn’t quite feel like a mall so it really is a place to stop on by. They have a very wide variety of stores. Almost every store seems to cater to the middle class and upper middle class however. But if you need a FedEx Kinko’s, this is the only place in downtown Halifax where I could find one. They also have a Roots store along with a food court in the lower levels. The food court area is not your typical mall food court. Expect higher end, higher quality food. The good news is you won’t be spending a very high price for the food. It seems as though they try to cater to your average business person who needs to grab a quick bite to eat and doesn’t want Fast Food. Spring Garden Place also has jewelery stores, shoe repairs, some music stores, basically some typical things you might expect in a mall but geared towards a crowd who can spend five or ten dollars more than your average customer. I hop in here all the time to do my FedEx or printing needs. From time to time I will venture into the dark food court area because despite the ambiance, the food is generally quite good. So if you need to get something printed, want to get your shoes repaired or looking for a different lunch then a quick stop to MacDonald’s, try Spring Garden Place Shops.
