Foreign Affair is catered to 20’s + a lot of elegant but original pieces for everyday or the office. A lot of luxury designers such as Rebecca Taylor, True Religion, Rachel Zoe. & They have an A-mazing denim collection at the back. Be prepared to spend a lot money you can be spending anywhere from $ 200-$ 800 but they have a good selection on coats, denim, bottoms, tops, blazers, accessories, some handbags. I find the selection way better than the Spring Garden. The spring garden is laid out really neat they have audrey hepburn posters and organized into sections of the item your looking for. The staff are friendly but I find you have to go looking for answers yourself. They do offer free alternations with purchase. Definitely work checking out both locations!

Popped in for a visit with my mom the other day because we’re genetically predisposed to shop for ourselves on days that are supposed to be all about other people… in this case, Fathers Day. We’re horrible. Foreign Affair had some nice displays up in the main window that caught mom’s eye so we did some investigating on the racks. We were greeted pretty quickly by staff who seemed nice enough, although they didn’t come over to say hi but rather gave the polite, happy-to-see-you-but-not-enough-to-leave-the-case, smile. The collection in the store right now actually seemed quite nice but definitely more demure than most pieces I’d ever spend hundreds of dollars on. That said, if you want to look great without looking outrageously trendy or shopping at the usual mall suspects, Foreign Affair will gladly rack up your credit card.

If Foreign Affair is going to talk the talk, my suggestion here is that they better start walking the walk. A visit to the second downtown location was the anti-climax– and not my idea of an affair at all. It must be noted that the service here was especially kind; however, what truly brings me to this boutique is the opportunity to peek ‘n’ swoon over elite designer fabrics. Not the case. While the selection was far better than the Barrington location, Foreign Affair does not deliver. They appear to cater to different styles– which can be a good thing– but the manner of display is a bit flimsy. Apparel for the work professional, summer babe, faux rocker and high-class lounger are compacted into this smallish space, which makes it hard to define the store’s actual market. There were some lovely pieces here and there, but nothing outstanding; nothing here to rattle my bones and establish emotional attachment. I suppose if I want to feel good about my shopping habits, I’ll pop into Foreign Affair. In theory, there are many designer threads at the forefront of fashion… but in reality, well, its just not happening. Thus, I can surround myself in luxury garments without the slightest yearning to spend money. Good job, self! Nah, just kidding. Denial isn’t the answer. But sadly, I do not think I’ll be back to Foreign Affair. I simply do not care for the overall taste and style here, and lack of cohesiveness in product just adds to the pile of No Thanks. Sorry FA, I’ll have to save my love for someone else.

Warning: Rant alert! Another bust for the rendezvous from afar. Maybe it’s me and I just don’t find the humdrum drabness of the majority of designer threads tempting, but this shop really takes the cake when it comes to overpriced ensembles. I swung in today. No surprise that it took the clerks quite a while to greet me. One made eye contact and then walked into a back room, while the other, finally offered up salutations and a little chitchat after I continued to browse unphased. The clothes are a whole lot of whatever. I mean, the materials aren’t even super luxurious to warrant $ 300-$ 900 price tags. Am I vacant in the head or does this all make a whole lot of NO sense? I’m pretty sure I felt some acetate in the mix, but the prices weren’t reflecting the commonplace garb. I’m sure there’s a place for this store, well obviously because there are two locations in Halifax. However, I know it’s not targeted towards me or else the clerks would be a whole lot more apple pie sweet and sugar smiles when I walk in the door. Spare me your bedazzled tees and tedious denim Foreign Affair; I’m not convinced that you’re all that and a bag of chips. FYI — I nabbed a MaxMara cashmere sweater at Value Village for $ 7, which is a line they carry at Foreign Affair. Super nice sweater — BUT– their simple tees run like $ 250 at this shop. CRAY-ZEE, much?

Foreign Affair caters to the business woman who likes to make a statement. Good quality unique pieces that you wont see on every female at the office. Maybe that is why they only bring in limited sizes in these pieces. I have been in Forgein Affair a few time once looking for a cocktail dress for a function that I was to attend, no luck for me. I don’t know I just really do not enjoy shopping at these locations maybe it is just me. There were beautiful name brand suits and great overcoat or winter coats available they were even starting to bring out the Spring collections which was very exciting to see all the bright colours after a long cold winter. Would I recommend Foreign Affair yes of course I like going at the end of the season when they have their great deals.

I like Foreign Affair, some might say it is too expensive. However they carry really nice cloths, and will last a long time. This is a great place to go for business wear that does not look old. Finding the right cloths is a real science. So if you find a brand that fits and you feel like a million bucks in it, buy it! I really like the selection of winter coats they carry as well. The staff here are helpful. They have some great sales towards the end of the season.

If you’re looking for something out of the ordinary, this is the place. The clothes are rather pricey, but not outrageous. The clothes are timeless and original. When I was living in Toronto I discovered clothes by Eileen Fisher — gorgeous fabrics, simple lines… my idea of perfect clothes and the only place I’ve found any EF sweaters, tops, skirts and pants in Halifax… at Foreign Affair. Staff is friendly and helpful. So if you can’t figure out what to wear to that special event, or what goes with what for any occasion… they’ll have the perfect solution.
