Sir Sandford Fleming Park

I feel like this would be better for kids, but we really weren’t impressed. pros for it being so close to the city but there doesn’t seem to be much to do or explore here. and now with dingle tower closed there’s not even that.

Who doesn’t love to come down here it’s amazing! Explore the dingle tower, go on the playground, Many themed summer camps, more! Also cool to come down here for natal day where they host many activitys such as canoeing, face painting, more! Also visit the frog pond which isn’t to far and many small spacious houses and a school just around the corner! Always fun to come down and have some fun

Why not 4 or 5 for this lovely little park? Well, there’s not tons to do or draw you in. There’s the tower (which everyone calls the Dingle) and the beach (which is mostly kids) but other than that there’s not a lot. The canteen is closed so you can’t sit on a bench and enjoy an ice cream cone.
The trails that connect you to other parks (e.g. the frog pond) are good but they aren’t clearly marked if you don’t know where to look.
It’s tranquil — that’s one of the strongest selling points. If you’re looking for a good picnic spot, this is the place to go.

A beautiful place for a stroll on a summer evening. Well kept grass and clean walkways. It was busy while we were there but did not seem crowded. There seems to be a canteen there but strangely it wasn’t open at such a peak time.
I wasn’t brave enough to venture to the top of the tower, maybe next time!

This is a lovely historic park complete with a stone built tower overlooking the picturesque North West Arm. If you go to the top (a bit of a climb but worth it), you command a beautiful view of the Arm. The beach is basic and smallish but large enough to have play space for children. The water is cold but not terribly cold if you can bring yourself to trust it’s cleanliness. There is plenty of grass for sitting and a walk about is warranted for would be walkabouters. I can only assume a life guard will be on duty in summer months now that this is officially a «real beach» in this post-​harbor clean-​up era. If you have a family or want a nice quiet time for yourself or with a friend, this is a great spot to spend part of the day. If your a walker, you can get all the way over to the frog pond on Purcells cove road via a trail connecting to the road to the Dingle. You will pass the stairs leading to this path on the right hand side as you travel down the Dingle road. It is really a lovely walk and I highly recommend it but you should give yourself a good hour to walk around the path and back to the Dingle. A Canteen is available in the summer months for basic snacks, dogs and such. This is definitely not a place teens who are a bit older and looking for more of a social scene, they will quickly get bored with few other teens their age unless they into family time. Young children on the other hand love the open space to run and play. This is a common place for wedding pictures and even your odd wedding here and there. This is a little off the beaten path but a great park to enjoy being only 2 miles from the rotary on the Purcells cove road. If you’ve not tried it, you are missing a little piece of Halifax.

The unseasonably warm October weather sent us in search of a outdoor destination where we could enjoy the sunshine. We decided against our go-​to routes (Point Pleasant Park or the Halifax Waterfront) and headed around the rotary to Fleming Park, home of the Dingle. It’s not a huge park, but there is a small beach, playground, and a walking path along the sea wall. Unfortunately, the Dingle is currently under construction, so there’s not much to see there. But if you’re looking to take in some architectural views, Fleming Park gives you an opportunity to see some of the spectacular South-​end houses that face on to the North West arm. For a nice afternoon on the waterfront, try packing a picnic and taking in the view at Fleming Park. (Note — once the Dingle is no longer surrounded by scaffolding and plastic sheeting, this will get bumped up to a ⁴⁄₅).

I had always seen this tower across the water as I drove towards to rotary, but I had no idea what it was. After curiosity finally got the best of me I drove over to check it out.
This is the Dingle Tower, located in Sir Sandford Fleming Park, and it is quite a cool site to behold. There is nothing especially exciting to do around it (The park is pretty standard*), but the structure is worth checking out.
A fun tip for any local bands, especially those that are metal or take themselves way too seriously, this would be a great spot for a photo shoot. The tower is ominous and the lions that flank the steps will make you look very tough.
So come over to the Dingle Tower some afternoon, enjoy the view, take some pictures and maybe take a little walk. It is certainly worth your time (*)

The Dingle Tower is a difficult landmark to miss. The tower juts straight up from its hilltop perch, where it overlooks the waters of the Northwest Arm. There’s a small beach here, where once-​upon-​a-​time you could swim, and where, hopefully Haligonians will once again be able to swim after the city’s sad history with sewage treatment is resolved.
Built by «the Father of Standard Time,» Sir Sandford Fleming, in the early 1900s, this park features some meandering walking trails, and a small playground.
It’s a nice spot for an evening walk, or an afternoon picnic, and dog-​walkers can enjoy the wooded and waterside trails (on-​leash only).
