Best beer I’ve ever tried (I’m not a beer fan!), and I’ve gone back to get more. That must mean something!

I was excited to find an actual tasting room within walking distance of my hotel but ended up not impressed with Garrison. The brewery itself is ok, nothing special but I guess you could have fun with a group. The service was terrible, nobody seemed to want to be there and didn’t seem to want to talk to customers. When I ordered my tasters the employees did not offer any information about the beers whatsoever. They also told me that I needed to move off of the bar area very rudely. Aside from the service I did’t think the beers were that great. Nothing was bad but nothing stood out or impressed me, everything was just pretty blah.

Staff were great. Offered us pages out of a staff book to read up on the beers. Helped us carry out the beers to their patio. Patio chairs are comfy enough. Tables are kinda small but they work. A flight of 5 beers for $ 10 was really reasonable in my opinion. All the beers tasted great. The raspberry wheat is amazing!

We visited Garrison Brewery today and found the staff member that was working very distracted to the point that he actually ignored us waiting at the counter. We had come for the Seaport Beerfest from Bridgewater and Port Mouton and were tying in breweries for our Taste of NS books. Another customer had come in while we were waiting to be served with a Keg that had not functioned properly and although I had requested a strawberry wheat beer and to have our books stamped he ignored us and proceeded to check the keg give a refund and get the story about the keg without even a acknowledgement that we were dissatisfied! Although I have tried your beers in the past it will be a long time before I revisit the brewery! Very poor customer service I assume this worker had worked the beer fest and was fatigued and in a poor mood … Well I hope he doesn’t always treat your customers this poorly! By comparison Propeller Brewery was very friendly and gave us an excellent tasting and tour

Not much of a beer drinker but went in on a whim and suggestion from a colleague. I tried the blonde which was really good and my husband had the amber. I enjoyed them both and actually brought some to bring back to Ontario!
The brewery is super and the staff were incredibly helpful and knowledgable. Being a fairly new beer drinker, staff were able to help with all of my questions and I walked away a little more ‘beer savvy’!! We had the choice to sit outside in the sun, under an umbrella, or to belly up to the bar! Awesome atmosphere!
Enjoyed the fact that we could try most beers for $ 2.00 a glass, about 6oz I believe.

We enjoyed their tasting room. Friendly server, good location. Indoor and outdoor seating.
Only deducted one star because they didn’t have their IPA on tap as a taster the days we visited; fortunately they had their tasty Imperial IPA on tap.
Tasters were $ 2 each, and appeared to be about 6oz apiece.
The only place we visited twice during our 4 days in Halifax, so you know we liked it. :)

Love this beer! Even though you can find it in many of the pubs around Halifax, it’s fun to go the actual brewery where they make the beer. You can buy samples of the beer for $ 2, although they had just run out of one of the brews I had wanted to try. But no matter because they had many more to choose from. I ended up loving the blonde special brew, which was made as a special only for the jazz festival, so it won’t be around much longer. Very light and crispy brew and not sure if any of the pubs carry it during the jazz festival.
Biggest bummer — can’t buy Garrison in the states.
Anyway, fun little excursion to the brewery for some fresh, quality beer.

As I am not a beer drinker, I really enjoy their beer, I enjoy the Tall Ship Amber, but the possibilities are amazing, with friendly staff, as well knowledgeable about the product is awesome. I have wanting a growler of the stuff, but I have been procrastinating. But need less the say its an awesome place to hit up in the summer and have a few laughs with friends or surf the web while having a cold one.

Another local craft brewing company in Halifax. I love Garrsion I won’t deny it for a second. They have a good selection of beer types that should satisfy most, an opportunity to purchase samples @ $ 2/​sm glass, and a spot to sit, drink and be merry.
They have growlers (large containers ~2L) that you can have filled for less than buying at the store and lots of swag.
Very conveniently located next to the Seaport Market.
Also active in the local brew/​food community and typicially have an event or two in the mix.

This place has an amazing feel and great atmosphere. Their swag section is awesome and the staff are passionate and helpful but don’t hover or be pushy– they have confidence in their product! All of their beers are amazing. Love that they come out with some limited editions from time to time. And their samplers are a great way to cheaply pass the afternoon on their patio!

Garrison is pretty much Halifax’s collective happy place and it’s absolutely no surprise. A local brewery with a line-​up of award-​winning standards alongside special occasion suds just steps away from our waterfront farmers market: you do the math.
While there isn’t a tremendous amount to do at the brewery itself on your average business day, they do offer up a comfortable, casual patio in warmer months where you can enjoy a cold one when you can’t wait to get home to enjoy your latest purchase.
Better yet, for special occasions, the brewery itself is up for grabs on the cheap. Rally your friends, load up an iPod and bring along snacks to throw a house party chez Garrison. There aren’t no party like a brewery party, y’all.

We were on a cruise that stopped in Halifax and the first thing I see is the Garrison Brewing Company.
Tired of the bottled Bud, Miller… blah blah blah options on the cruise ship, we pull in here for a little something refreshing.
Although it appears they do brew their beer there, I didn’t see any signs advertising a brewery tour. The place is basically a tasting room with a gift shop.
We tried a few of their beers on tap… $ 2.00 tastings for what I’m guessing is a 6oz taste… It was good. Nothing amazing, but some nice beers… way better than the bottled crap they served on the ship.
If you are really thirsty, I suggest buying a large bottle from their gift shop refrigerator (instead of something on tap)… I think you bet a little more beer for your money… and you can still enjoy it in their tasting room!
If you are a micro brew fan, this is worth going a few minutes out of your way for a quick sample and I have to admit, they had some cool t-​shirts in their gift shop.

Etwas unsicher war ich doch, als mich die Einladung zu einer «brewery tour» mit einer Gruppe Studenten der Dalhousie University ereilte. Wird das jetzt ein Besäufnis bis zum Umfallen, oder gibt es eine Führung durch die Eingeweide der Brauerei?
Weder noch. Der kleine Unkostenbeitrag in Höhe von $ 5 pro Person (mit zusätzlichen $ 7 pro Person subventioniert von einer Studentenorganisation) berechtigte zu unbeschränktem Genuss der sieben Biersorten, die an diesem Abend frisch vom Fass gezapft wurden. Meine ganz klaren Favoriten: Irish Red und Nut Brown. Kraftig und malzig im Geschmack, sehr lecker. Jedem «wirklichen» Biertrinker rate ich vom Raspberry Wheat ab. Süßlich mit eindeutig künstlichem Himbeeraroma. Pfui!
Gewissermaßen als Alibi (damit sich das ganze auch berechtigterweise «brewery tour» nennen durfte) gab es dann noch einen knapp zehnminütigen Vortrag darüber, wie denn die ganzen Biersorten nun hergestellt werden. Da habe ich nichts neues gehört. Braukessel und andere Anlagen waren hinter großen Glasflächen angeordnet, sodass man wenigsten ein klein wenig vom Brauereibetrieb zu sehen bekam.
Fazit: Die Kanadier brauen gutes Bier. Und da die Veranstaltung auf zwei Stunden beschränkt war (danach ging es noch in eine Bar, deren Namen ich leider vergessen habe…), gab es keine unangenehmen Zwischenfälle.
Einziger Wermutstropfen: Nach der Bar ging’s durch den Schneesturm nach Hause. Kalt war’s!

As far as craft breweries go, this one is small but worth a visit. They offer a wide variety of beer so there is something for everyone. On my first visit, the gentleman that was working was very personable and open to answering questions regarding Garrison products and the company as a whole. His enthusiasm made me inclined to go back. However, on my second visit, my experience couldn’t be more different. The gentleman who was working was impersonal, impolite and even insulting. He was visibly annoyed by our questions and made us feel very unwelcome. This was a major turn off, since we are new to the city and we’re trying to get to know the area and the brewery better. After making it clear that he was perturbed, he walked away before we could order more drinks so we left to go to the Keith’s brewery instead. In my opinion, to work at a small craft brewery, one should show pride in the products to make sure that visitors are also passionate about them. Although I wouldn’t encourage you to avoid this brewery simply because of this experience, it certainly left a bad taste in my mouth that cold beer could not fix.
