History
Established in 1987.
The Company with the Kilts!
«You’re known as The Company with the Kilts. What’s that about?»
We get asked that all the time. And well, the kilts are fun, of course. But they also represent our region. In Atlantic Canada, we’re noted for our Celtic heritage and generous hospitality. Wearing kilts is one way our staff can show their pride in that heritage. We’re proud of our staff, too. They’re one of the main reasons Ambassatours Gray Line is known as Atlantic Canada’s leading transportation and tourism operator.
The Scottish kilt is actually our office uniform
Drop by our office during tourist season and you’ll see that most of our staff who meet the public wear kilts, too. In fact, we boast over 150 family and regional tartan kilts! It started with Dennis Campbell, our President. With a name like Campbell, he grew up wearing the kilt, and has extended his tradition proudly throughout the Ambassatours company.
Meet the Business Owner
Dennis C.
Business Owner
Dennis Campbell was one of those rare teenagers who listened to Dad — and is the head of one of Canada’s most successful tour and motorcoach companies because he did.
Campbell broke into tourism early, starting a destination marketing company (DMC) at 15, a tourism publishing company at 19 and his own bus company at 21. «My Dad suggested I focus my energy» he explained. Today, his company, the award-winning Ambassatours Grey Line is Atlantic Canada’s largest DMC and motor coach operator, with a peak high-season staff of 250, and a fleet of over 70.
The company really took off in the 1990s when Campbell acquired two tour companies, one of which was his largest competitor. Another piece of the puzzle fell into place when Campbell became the sole licensee for Gray Line, first for Halifax and now for all of Atlantic Canada. Campbell has used those building blocks to create a unique product with instant brand-recognition, exemplary customer service and a worldwide reach.
