Great set menus at very good prices. Great food. Large portions. Not greasy. Great for groups. Lots of free parking despite being in downtown. This restaurant is tucked away on a main street going towards downtown. Theres lots of street parking as its close to lots of residential. But its all 2 hour parking maximum. I find the restaurant is never crazy busy so reservations are never needed. Its not dead by all means but its normally only half full most of the time. Even on saturdays or peak dinner or lunch times. Ive only had the set dinner menus. For large groups this place is awesome. Ranging from $ 179 to $ 350 there set menus are a great deal. At other places they can charge you up to $ 500 for some of the same set menus. The portions are generous and everything i had is tasty. A must order at this restaurant is the tofu dishes. Every tofu dish i have tried at this place is amazingly good. I hate tofu too. But this is one of the only places i eat tofu. If you come here id highly recomend trying any of the tofu dishes. I would have to say that this is what i come to this restaurant for. To me… this is their specialty. The food is typical chinese food and best part is that its not super greasy. But i find everything is quite saucy. The food is rich and heavy and you definitly get that stuffed feeling after eating a meal here. All the dishes are above standard and are comparable to most authentic chinese restaurants in edmonton without the high prices. The prices are what makes this place worth it. I can eat a meal here for $ 200 which would normally cost about $ 400 anywhere else. For groups its my best kept secret and i come here at least 4 times a year to celebrate with family. Honestly you cant go wrong here for those prices and we almost always cant finish the set meals for 10 people as the portions are so large here. There is always leftovers! Service is good here. Better than the average chinese joint. Bc its small the waitresses are fast and quick when you need something. It easy to get their attention too bc it has only 10 tables in the whole restaurant. If youre in the area with a group. This can be your last minute place to go, or a great place to celebrate a birthday with family or friends. Ive lingered here chatting and the staff were excellent and never rushed us to leave. Even allowing us to bring a cake from home and providing all the utensils and plates needed in exchange for a slice for the staff. How awesome is that! They are great with groups and my family highly enjoys them. A good indicator of how authentic the food is in a chinese restaurant. Is only seeing asians eating here 90% of the diners probably dont even speak english. Maybe the odd canadian during the lunch rush. But if the local chinese population frequents here. Thats shows the place has either great prices or great food. But for me its both!!!

I work HYS centre and they are our designated Chinese restaurant for lunch lol Price is fair and service was fast. I like ordering lunch for two, the amount is totally enough for another person and the price is just over $ 20. I like their hotpot rice too. This is one of the few Edmonton Chinese restaurant that actually do this. I mean, of course not as good as what you can have in China, but good enough to make me happy: D

I really wanted to like this place better, but there’s nothing really to recommend it. The food was standard fare, not so great, the décor was older, but I don’t mind that. The staff were quite nice, but I doubt we’ll be back.

Very happy to pick up some foods on the way home from work today, we order 7 dishes and always have the Left over for next day lunch. The foods taste consistently good, my family enjoyed their meal and the mom is happy for not cooking after a long busy day :).

Quality of the product in the dishes are below average. The chicken in their hot pot tastes like it’s been frozen and put into the pot and cooked, meat tasteless almost to a point of stale. Filet Mignon Black Pepper… not filet or any where near steak quality. You cannot tear the meat with your teeth, you need a steak knife to grind through it. Too many Chinese restaurants with much better food and at or lower price.

The quality of the food is hit or miss. The«beef» that they use in their beef and vegetables tastes disgusting. Honestly. Everything else I’ve tried at The Wokkery has tasted alright. The value proposition offered by this place is pretty impressive.

The Wokkery is a small Chinese restaurant just far enough away from the main drag of Chinatown that unless you are very familiar with the area, you may well overlook. I know I have. A co-worker pointed the place out to me for the first time this afternoon. Small and rather nondescript from the outside, the inside is quite warm and inviting. It’s small but clean, and the staff are very friendly. We got there just after the lunch rush but in enough time to still order a lunch special. A number of combination plates are available for $ 6.95, featuring chicken fried rice, beef and vegetables, and a choice of Szechuan beef, sweet and sour pork, almond chicken, and the like. The soup of the day is also included. I opted for a combination plate with sweet and sour chicken balls, while my co-worker had the Szechuan beef. First came our soup — vegetable soup was the bowl du jour, which consisted of a soy-based broth and some over-cooked vegetables. It wasn’t bad but it wasn’t great. Our plates came shortly thereafter. The first thing we noticed was the excellent value for the price. You won’t find a better deal on Chinese food, even in a food court. Plus, the quality was much better. The rice was fluffy and flavourful, while the beef and vegetables were tender and plentiful. My plate had four large chicken balls. The chicken was also tender within its deep-fried coating. Definitely not a dish for the health-conscious, but absolutely delicious and filling. My co-worker was similarly happy with her rice and beef and veggies. She also gave rave reviews to the Szechuan beef. I tried a piece and concur. It was lean, crispy without being too hard, and not overly spicy. I could see myself coming back for it. If you would rather order plates to share, there is a large selection of rice, meat, seafood, and noodle dishes also in the $ 7 price range. Meals also come with tea. Including my co-worker’s pop, the bill came to less than $ 20 including the tip. The Wokkery could very well be the best dining value in the area.

This place really impressed me. It’s kind of in a bad part of town, but don’t let that put you off, at all! In fact, many great restaurants in Edmonton are in shady areas. When I walked into this place, I was surprised as to how small it was and how busy it was. The place was absolutely packed, and if it wasn’t for our reservation, we would have never gotten a table. I went here with a group of about 13 people, and we sat around a large circular table with a lazy Susan to rotate our food around. We started out with green tea, and that was very good. It took a while for the food to come, but I could understand the delay, since it was so busy, and because we had ordered so much food. When the food arrived, it looked delicious. Each item came on large plates that we all shared. We had ginger beef, sweet & sour pork, fried rice, steamed fish(it was very tender), a few different veggies dishes, and deep fried chicken. The chicken was actually amazing. Apparently, they deep fry the entire chicken and then cut it up. It wasn’t greasy at all and was actually very juicy and soft. Aside from the food, I really loved the atmosphere of this place. It did look kind of old, and it was totally no frills, but I really like that. It was very authentic to me, because it’s not like they were trying to impress you with some fancy décor. It was obvious people came here for the great food, and I can’t wait to go back.
