Decided to go here for my birthday this year. I’ve only ever been to the west location before. I was pleasantly surprised by this place. It was trendy and I like coming to whyte ave. We had an open table reservation and they sat us promptly in a cute booth even though it was super busy. To start we had the baked brie and some bread and butter. The brie was so delicious. I love brie and cranberry so much and had actually been craving it. So when I saw it on the menu I knew it was meant to be! It comes with soft crackers and a little fork. It was really good. For dinner I decided to have the special that night which was the goat cheese and pecan encrusted sirloin with a red wine gravy and mixed vegetables. It was delicious. I love me a good steak(especially on my birthday). I paired it with a Zinfandel. Our server was friendly and knowledgable. She brought our food out pretty quickly too! I think we were only there for about an hour and a half, but only because we were being slow. Even though it looked really busy we were still served really quickly. Overall I really liked this location and will be back.

We came to this location because at 4pm the South Common location already has a huge lineup(ridiculous). We got in to the strathcona one right away around 430pm. The Keg is one of our favourite steak places among many in Edmonton. We all had steak of course! LOL Here’s what we had and the ratings: — baseball sirloin: great tasting cut of a steak and tender. you get veggies and a potatoe. it was cooked to our liking(med-rare) — new york: a thinner cut but the taste was wonderful. However we asked for med and it was well done. When we told our waitress she gave us $ 19 off our bill. Our son still ate the steak because it tasted great — filet: i always get a filet because I love the tenderness of the cut(it’s so velvety)…tip, if you ask for the veggie side, then you can share a baked potato with your date. I can never eat a full one anyways The service here was great! And the entire staff was very attentive. We will definitely be going back vs. going to the South common location because you have to wait for like 2 hours to get in even when you get there an hour after it opens(at 3pm)

If I could give 6 stars, I would! The meal was perfect, from start to finish. Hubby ordered grizzly paw beer, new York steak, and Billy pie. I got the merlot, sirloin Oscar and crème brulé. Everything was absolutely delicious, and you could tell because our plates were completely empty when the server came by. We were there for Hubby’s birthday and it was a perfect meal! Our server was great too. Will definitely be back!!!

I’m not generally a huge fan of steak restaurants — I always find them overpriced and busy and the menus don’t tend to offer much variety. Also, no matter how many times I say«medium rare» I inevitably end up with a big lump of overcooked meat. However, yesterday was my aunt’s birthday and she wanted to eat at The Keg so off we went. I was SO impressed! From the moment we walked in the door we were treated with nothing but kindness and professionalism. The hostess was very friendly, the server was professional, considerate and approachable and the food was amazing! I had the prime rib and my aunt had the teriyaki sirloin(both cooked perfectly). The portions were ginormous so you definitely get your money’s worth although next time I will probably dial it down a notch and try the sirloin steak salad, it looked delicious and much lighter than my 10oz slab of prime rib! My aunt was offered a free dessert because it was her birthday and she chose crème brulée…it was INCREDIBLE. I’ve never really liked crème brulée before but wow! The dessert was delivered by the manager who also wished her happy birthday. The only thing I would change is the lighting… I know they’re striving for ambiance but it’s so dark I could barely read my menu! That’s minor though, it really was a perfect evening and the food and the service were flawless.

We love the Keg, and this location is our favourite! Yes, it is a little expensive, but so far we’ve been 3 times and have yet to have a bad experience(even if we did, after all the good ones we’ve had… I think we would have to have a couple of bad experiences before ditching this place!). One huge thing for us is QUALITY because we’re used to home-cooked meals. Hubby and I cook from scratch and our mothers also always cooked from scratch… so when we eat fast food or food that just isn’t decent quality in general, we get extremely upset stomachs(I realize this might make us sound snooty but we’re far from it… just being honest!). We have a pretty hard time finding a place where we can eat out and not feel a bit sick or bloated afterwards. This is one of those places where we leave feeling awesome — even if we maybe ate a bit more than we should have! My absolute favourite appetizer is the baked brie… the calamari is also awesome! So are the other appetizers, but the brie and calamari are still my top 2. The meat is always incredibly tender and juicy and never dry or bland tasting… the veggies are often too bland for my taste but technically they are done perfectly for you to experience the full, unadulterated veggie taste. I just like my salt a bit too much!(Which is no biggie since there ARE salt and pepper shakers on the table… lol) Was also given great advice when I couldn’t decide on the wine I wanted… just overall a wonderful experience– every single time! (Also — they were GREAT when we brought along our little niece! We didn’t have to say a word and they brought out some great, free snacks for her, etc.)

I hadn’t been to the Keg in several years, quite frankly because I’ve never really thought of it as a great restaurant. My husband and I recently decided to try it again on a whim since we had no kids and some gift certificates to use. I’ve got to say, my views on the Keg changed drastically after my experience that night– for the better. Our service was spectacular. Our waitress answered all of or questions about the various cuts and when I asked about some dietary accommodations, they happily obliged. In fact, the kitchen manager came out shortly after we ordered to assure us that the kitchen staff was taking special attention to my order to ensure my dietary restrictions were adhered to. We also had the front of house manager check in with us after dinner to ask us if our meal was to our satisfaction. And it was. The steaks were cooked perfectly, as we ordered, and the vegetables were also perfectly cooked. All in all, this was definitely a 5-star experience. I’ve got a whole different perspective on this well-run restaurant.

Went to this location early on a Friday night. Was able to get meter parking easily and seated right away as it was before the dinner rush. Service was very pleasant and attentive. The steaks were cooked perfectly and so tender. My mother got the lobster tail add on and it was very small but as it was only an add on it was excusable. The only thing that I would have to complain about was the mango crème brule. Though it was delicious it was incredibly small and not worth the price. The waitress had warned it was too small to share but I was still shocked by how small. So I wouldn’t bother spending the money unless you like a 3 bite dessert.

Excellent meal and atmosphere. Our first trip to Edmonton and looking for great steak meal and found the Keg. Been to Keg in other cities and this one met the mark. Great dinner, Excellent service.

For a steak house I’d go elsewhere! Service was amazing. I ordered the large prime rib and lobster meal. The steak was a touch below room temperature, lobster was rubbery and felt like it was cooked a hour ago. Just updating my restaurant reviews now, that was a year ago. Maybe they changed managers or something, give it a try!

Definitely one of my favourite restaurants in the city. From the fresh bread to the bellinis to filet mignon, I am in heaven here. Wish they had a patio for the summer though!

Just had dinner there and the service from our server Annie was awesome! She really put a smile on my face :) The manager Tom aka lil Tom :) also took care of us extremely well. Thanks for making what a crappy evening we were having before we got there… Turn out great! Also the crème brûlée is perfection.

Impeccable service from a waiter named Greg from this restaurant, the food was amazing and the restaurant had a great atmosphere. I’d recommend this location over the west end one

I’ve had consistently great experiences at all of the kegs in edmonton. The dinner I had at the Strathcona keg was no different. They take limited reservations, so I was able to get a table for 2 at 6:30 by phoning the day before… Way better than waiting. The booth we got was really small with no place for our jackets, luckily I thought to ask the waiter to find a place for them and he carried them to a coat rack across the restaurant. We got escargot as our appie and had to ask for bread to go with it(don’t they usually just bring out the bread?). We both got steak and they were both cooked perfectly. I got a side of bernaise sauce and was a little let down by it, they put some sort of green dried herbs in it that made it taste more like her a than butter. I ended up scraping it off my steak and not eating it. My wife and I were celebrating an anniversary so the restaurant brought us a free desert. We opted for crème brûlée and it was really good. Overall a fine experience. If you get the chance to go, request a seat by the fireplace because it sets the mood nicely.

Went to a steakhouse for a good steak and was seriously dissapointed. The appy calamari was great. The drink selection great to. My potato and veggies awesome. The service wicked. Even side shrimp awesome. But terrible steak! Nice inside all and all great except the steak. Also have always thought the keg a bit pricy…

I took my fiancé out for his birthday a couple weeks ago. I have a funny story. We order our usual(we go to the keg every month or so) and as the waitress brings out our food she spills it all over my fiancé! LOL thankfully it wasn’t soup or anything but anyway the staff is super friendly and helpful. They brought him a tide to go. They quickly bring out another steak for him(they did not drop mine phew) so it comes time for the bill and they say it was on the house! Very thrilled with that! It was inconvenient but I am very happy with how it was handled. Very professional. Thank you Keg you never cease to amaze me.

Sorry Keg — I am quickly falling out of love with you!!! I guess it’s nice if you can come in at off peak times; but if you are like me, and you work during most off-peak hours, this can be a challenge. Since they don’t take reservations, I guess you are just kind of SOL(CORRECTION: as per the note below from the folks at the Keg, it would appear that the Strathcona location does take reservations — my bad!!!). My BF and I showed up on my birthday at about 8:15 pm on a Friday hoping that by that time it would have slowed down enough to avoid a super long wait. No such luck, and since the lounge was also PACKED, it was a good 45 minute wait standing in the entranceway. Not one to typically wait this long, but if you knew that we had driven to each and every other Keg location, and every single one of them gave a us a 120+ minute wait, you might understand why we decided to stick it out here. We finally get crammed into the smallest table available in a dark corner, and were able to order our drinks about 10 minutes later from our way over the top, fake-happy waiter. When I ordered my entrée, I knew I should have asked for my Salmon to be well done, but I guess I wrongly assumed that if they typically served it rare, they would have said something. No big deal, since this is just personal preference. There was about 14 tonnes of mashed potatoes — don’t get me wrong, I like it, but not 14 tonnes of it. To be perfectly honest, I have had way better meals for way cheaper, and not had to wait forever to get into a crappy table with a crappy waiter. Call me crazy, but if I am going to spend $ 200 for a meal with drinks, I would rather not start with being extremely annoyed before I even sit down for the meal. I guess there is a pretty good reason why I only end up here once every couple of years.

Do you like steakhouses? Then you’ve come to the right place. I’ve always been a fan of the Keg restaurant chain as I greatly enjoy the food they serve. They also mix a very good martini and have plenty of delicious appetizers. This location does not disappoint with quality of the food or the quality of the service. I have always enjoyed going to this location and I’m sure I’ll be back for many more steaks or roast beef in the future. A couple of tips for you, don’t eat too much of the delicious bread or you won’t be able to finish your meal and always go for the mashed potatoes because they’re delicious. If you like high quality meals in a more formal atmosphere, you’ll fit right in.

Usually I wouldn’t knock the Keg, but after my experience Saturday night I won’t be back to this location. I’ve previously been to this location several times and have taken people from out of town, sometimes to eat and have a couple drinks, watch a game and never had any issues. I would have to say we were provided with some of the worst service to date, we went for a round of appetizers and a single round of drinks for a party of three, which took longer than usual for it being kind of slow.(Cold food) After waiting a long period of time when the waitress came back, we ordered another round of drinks.(Which I guess was a bad idea.) While we were still finishing our food I was then approached by a manager, who then said according to Alberta Liquor Laws, they were no longer able to serve us liquor.(9:00pm) I can say the previous time I was there on a Saturday night(With the same people from out of town) I put 12 doubles away before heading to the next location, along with the others consuming more than two drinks, first two of the night certainly was not an issue.(And I’m from Nova Scotia, apparently we can drink more than the average human being. lol) He found out right away I was not Intoxicated by any means, I asked if he was just taking the word of the waitress and asked maybe wouldn’t you consider coming to check on a table first or refer to what had been ordered quantity wise, before shutting us down? He was silent. And at this point I pretty much had my mind made up I wouldn’t be returning, and explained to him you know the service we were receiving was poor, that the wait times were a bit much and that obviously our waitress had some issues. He said give him a minute.(From this point on, we dealt only with him as our waitress had disappeared.) When he returned he said he could give us a couple of our appetizers free of charge, which was something, but still wasn’t impressed.(Since I couldn’t drink the refund, or finish watching the game and enjoy it as per usual. lol) So we continued on, and went over to where we belong at the Trap & Gill apparently.(Great spot btw, and food!) since this is my second time posting, I will have to give them a review next! Won’t be back to this Keg location, particular waitress can take an attitude adjustment any day, and the Manager maybe check into any situation that is set out in front of you a little more, before making any rash decisions. Thanks. P. S.(It’s 3am upon arriving home Sunday morning, we weren’t refused from three other places visited, two of which were sit down eatery’s by any laws set in place.) I am still currently coherent.

Fantastic service and a great meal. My wife and I went there the other night. She had the chicken and ribs, I ordered the teryaki sirloin for our entrees. Unfortunatly for me, they were out of teryaki marinated steaks, but this wasn’t mentioned to me by the server until after our appetizer had come out. I wasn’t too woried about it and I switched my order to the regular sirloin, but the manager came over and comped my meal for my troubles. We had a fantastic time, and despite a few small concerns, it was a great evening out.

Went to the Keg just before christmas and have been there before. I have no complaints althought being able to make a reservation would be a great bonus. The service is always good and the wait staff was very attentive to my needs as a celiac. I always order the steak, and that is the reason why I go to the Keg– for a steak. I had the bacon wrap filet mignon and they gave me a gluten free bernaise sauce with it. Yummy. My steak was cooked to a perfect rare and althought there wasn’t much seasoning(because their seasoning disappointingly contains gluten) it was still delicious. The escargots were also really good. The place is really busy and the prices are moderate– for steak you are looking at around $ 30+. I will definetly go back and bring my friends again.
