Stopped to pick up some pita bread. It’s always fresh and some of the best I’ve tasted. However, this is the first time I’ve actually visited the store, so I also ordered a zaatar pie. Amazing! Fresh made, right out of a hot oven. At $ 2.75, it’s a bargain. Will definitely be going back to try some of the other menu items.

My wife and I went to Sunbake Pita Bakery on Thursday January 14th, for the first time. We were at the counter waiting to ask the clerk something. Both clerks looked right past us at the next two customers to enter the store, and served them right away. They totally ignored my wife and I. We left and won’t return, nor will we buy anything with their brand on it.

I came here for brunch over the weekend. It’s much loved on Unilocal. During the time I was there I saw I diverse clientele of locals, all interested in baked middle eastern goods. The pita pizza was pretty good. I also heard good things about the chicken shawarma. The take home chicken pastry thing was a hit for 4 pm snack time. They have a nuts bar featuring among other nuts, pistachio, walnuts and almonds. Not something you see often.

This place was a little hard to find… maybe I should have google mapped it better but I figured with a street address and a good sense of direction I’d avail(and I did), but it was definitely a challenge. All that I ordered and tried was the Chicken Schwarma and it really WAS delicious. Not my favourite of all time but definitely the best I’ve had in Edmonton. It was FULL of chicken, and it was all well cooked and there was no ‘mystery meat’ to be found. It was a little dry on the veggie front — I feel like some more fresh veggies in there would have seriously thrown it into best ever waters. It was insanely garlicky — which I loved — but if you don’t love garlic I would not recommend at all. Also HUGE. Share with a friend!

Oh my goodness this place is awesome :) we ordered a za’atar pie, an ekawee & parsley pie and 2 large shawarmas with two canned pop. Total = $ 27.57 now that’s a deal. My husband and i were absolutely stuffed. The service is also extremely fast. 2 seconds after we paid; we had the pies. The pies were fresh, made on order. I will be coming back a lot. Ps. Stack a slice of za’atar and a slice of ekawee on each other and try that. It’s perfect :) Fyi: ekawee is an Arab cheese. It’s quite salty.

They produce their pitas at this location and supply some local grocers. Every component of the pita was absolute perfection. I can’t make any recommendations because anything you order here is absolutely delicious. As soon as you hold the pita in your hand the garlic sauce smell will take over. I used to live 5 minutes down the street and there is no use in waiting to eat it, you might as well just eat it there when they hand it to you. I will always have fond memories of Edmonton largely because of this place

I took an extra long route home to check out Sunbake– and I’m really glad I did. I was blown away at how cheap and delicious everything was. The Mediterranean flavours were novel to me and the spice blends were harmonious. You can get $ 2 middle eastern«pizzas» on pita bread! We tried the deluxe nut mix for $ 5 — so yummy and fresh even when I snacked on it for throughout the week. For $ 20, my boyfriend and I were filled to the brim with delicious food. Please get the chicken shwarma, it’s the best I’ve had anywhere in Edmonton. The chicken is so moist and the garlicky spread so so good, and paired with the pickled radishes and veggies, it is perfection. Definitely a place to drive out of your way for!

This is my go-to lunch spot on the north side. Amazing value. The pizzas are excellent, and I love the little zatar rolls with cheese. Would highly recommend for anyone in the neighbourhood.

So my partner had been raving about what he called«meat pies» for a few weeks and had heard that this is the best place in Edmonton. We decided one day to truck it down to the north end to check it out, and were not disappointed. Not a ton of parking here and it is kind of tucked away in a residential area, but the experience was awesome! I had a cheese pita and he had a really meaty one. They were ready quickly and were very reasonably priced. When we sat down to enjoy our pitas I commented that they would be great with a dipping sauce. Next thing we know, the owner comes over with an entire plate of delicious garlic dip and an array of toppings for us and chatted with us for a while. Hands down the best customer service I’ve ever had in a place where you order your food at the counter! It was completely unexpected and a very pleasant surprise. He even shook our hands and introduced himself. It’s too bad this place is so far away from my house or I would go all the time, but everyone else should know how totally awesome it is!

Being in from out of town, we had no idea what to check out for lunch. We randomly found Sunbake Pita, and we are so glad we did. We walked in and the place was very busy both buying food and pitas. It looks like they really sell quite a few pitas as people were buying them constantly while we were there. The menu was presented above the service line with nice pictures showing what you were getting. We decided to go with a chicken schwarma wrap, meat and cheese pita, and a chicken and spinach pita. When ordering, we asked if the offered any sides with the pita and we’re told they do not. We went and grabbed a seat by the window. They do not have many seats to eat inside, but do have a few. We checked out the mixed nuts while waiting on our food as well. The food arrived quickly and looked great. All of the pitas were very tasty. While we were eating, I was tapped on the shoulder and handed a couple plates of tabouli salad. I think it may have been the owner, but he explained they supply the salad, but don’t normally sell it. He gave us the plates and told us to enjoy. It was the best tabouli salad I have ever had. Not overly green with parsley and it had a nice tartness from the lemon juice. Our lunch was very fulfilling. After finishing our meal, we chatted about how reasonable the meals cost was. My coworker got both the meat and cheese pita, a coke, and a chicken and spinach pita for $ 9. My schwarma was about $ 9 as well. It may have been the cheapest meal we had in Edmonton. After you are done eating there, don’t forget to check out the Lebanese bakery a few doors down. All the pastries were enjoyed by the guys at the shop.

Returned today for chicken schwarma wrap, to die for! Thus time we picked up a bag of pitas & hummus to take home for dinner. We’ll be back to experience more yet again.

Sunbake Pita Bakery is soooooooo sooooooo so good! I’ve never had an item here that wasn’t jam packed with flavourful goodness and the prices are great, too! Fast, delish, fresh, flavourful… What more could you ask for? Mmm… Shawarma is calling my name just reading the review from everyone else. Baking your pita in the stone oven just makes everything taste better! Once you do a pita here, you’ll never look at Pita Pit or Extreme Pita again!

So two co-workers and I were heading over to check out Mona’s Pizza & Donair when I spotted Sunbake Pita Bakery on the way. I remember hearing good things about Sunbake and knew that they are the pita kings in Edmonton, so I convinced my co-workers to check out this place for lunch. We went on a Tuesday right around noon and the place was consistently busy while we were there. All you need to know is order at the counter once you’ve made your decision. There’s lebanese mini pies(pizzas if you will), shawarma, roasted nuts, baklava, fatayers and of course their infamous pitas(which people were buying in bulk). The nuts looked so fresh and delicious but couldn’t convince my co-workers to get some. Next time! Anyways, we ordered and shared: — Chicken shawarma($ 8.99 for large, $ 7.99 for regular) — regular was good enough for my one co-worker and my other co-worker and I shared the large(asked for it to be cut in half). The first bites were delicious as you can really taste the garlic and toasting the pita gave it a nice crunch to it. A few pickled purple turnips bring together the flavour. Randomly, I spotted a bottle of Sriracha hot sauce, which went surprisingly well with the shawarma. Who woulda thunk? Only downside was near the end, the sandwich got really salty. — Sausage and cheese pie($ 3.99) — this was SO good and massive for $ 4. You get four pieces total and a very generous portion of meat on your pie. I saw a few little kids order this and they were struggling to finish it. Tasty, perfect pizza crunch to it but beware, it is greasy! Can’t wait to go back and try the rest of their menu and roasted nuts. Did I mention lunch split between two of us cost $ 6.50? Ridiculous!

I have been visiting this place for years. It has the best fresh baked pita bread in town, perfect for wraps or eating with hummus. But the varied selction of pita pies and shawarma makes this place great for breakfast, lunch and maybe even a quick supper. My kids love the triple cheese pie, I myself usually order the spinach and cheese, while my husband perfers the spicy meat pies. There is literally something for everyone. If you are looking for a great new flavor try the zatar with veggies. This place is always fresh, friendly and clean. Sure not to disappoint with its truely authentic Mediterranean fast food cuisine including a cooler packed with exotic beverages. Great as take out. And if you are coming from far away most of the items available freeze well. Also try the smaller version pies called fatayers. A bit more pricey but they make a great snack.

I’ve been eating fatayers, an Arab meat pie, from Sunbake Pita Bakery since I was a teenager. I most definitely took it for granted, not knowing where exactly it came from since my mom always picked up a bag whenever our freezer ran out. As a recent graduate, working without a solid break in the pharmacy gets tough, and heating these little pies up and eating it within two to three bites is always a win for me, and it quickly became one of my favorite quick meals. Last week my mom wasn’t feeling well, so I was absolutely delighted to go pick some up in her stead. Located on 134 Ave and 107 St, it was only a five-minute drive from my house. Ridiculously close to most north Edmontonians. You know how cops are outside of Tim Hortons, grabbing a coffee or donut to go? Well, taxi drivers are here grabbing donairs and pies to go! The inside has a simple order counter, with larger pita packages on the side, and smaller to-go orders in the front. There’s even a side counter of various nuts, available in bulk. I’ve never been to the Middle East, but I would imagine markets would be lined with these beautifully roasted nuts! After ordering a bag of mixed fatayers(sold by the dozen) and a bag of sfeha meat fatayers(our usual), each bag for $ 10, I asked the owner if they were related to the Pita Bake on 153 Ave and 127 St, to which he replied, «No, completely different. Completely different. We are incomparable.» Oh, well then. But they have similar fatayers? Which I had never tried. I was actually going to do a comparison post but the next few minutes with the owner changed my mind. And here’s why: He quickly took me to the side of the shop to show me their operation! I didn’t ask to be shown, nor did he know I was a blogger, which to me shows that this was his pride and joy. Not comparable, indeed! The other place does not make their pitas like Sunbake Pita does! They run 22 hours a week in the back, making fresh pitas to be distributed all over Edmonton and even as far away as B. C and Manitoba. Think of all the donair places you eat at. Any Middle Eastern wrap. Shwarma! Most likely the pita came from Sunbake Pita! Stacks of flour lined the right side and ready to be mixed in the mixer at the end of the room(shown in photos. Dough gets put into the a motion-sensor divider, which he turned on to show me. The sliced dough gets rolled and pulled up through two stages of proofing for a total of 20 minutes. Eventually the dough passes through a long oven, almost half the length of the room. 10 seconds through this bad boy and the pitas are ready! Check out the flame in my photo! Up and around the room, the pitas cool, and end up in the packaging station where they are packed six to a bag. The whole operation is able to run 6000 pita pieces per hour at maximum capacity, assuming that a steady stream of dough is being placed into the divider. Bonkers! I didn’t realize they had this whole scale operation going on the side. Mom was fairly impressed when I came home with more than just a couple bag of fatayers! By the time I got home, I was too excited to save my pastries for that work day’s meal. Had to have it for lunch! The mixed bag had four of each: herb, spinach fatayer, and cheese pie; plus I had my dozen sfeha meat fatayer to boot. The herb fatayer is on a thicker piece of pita, and uses a lot of oregano. Definitely a different flavor profile from the others, yet simple. Not as savory either. The spinach fatayer has a nice heaping filling of steamed spinach, with a slightly sour seasoning to it. My new favorite: the cheese pie. Little puff pitas with a three cheese filling of mozzarella, cheddar, and feta. Yum! And of course, my family favorite: the sfeha meat fatayer, ground beef mixed in with spices, onions, and crushed fresh tomatoes. It might not look much, but trust me, delicious! Even my coworkers have started eating them and they showed absolutely no interest in my lunch before! Probably have to start bringing in extra for them… keep your hands off the fatayers! Definitely get your money’s worth here, and I still have yet to try their flat meat pies(think pizza style) and wraps! Absolutely love the fact that the fatayers can easily be frozen and reheated within seconds. Their pita breads are sold almost everywhere, including Real Canadian Wholesale Club, Planet Organic, H&W Produce, and all locations of the Italian Centre Shops. They have been my margherita pizza base for many years now — laziest, yet best way to make a pizza if you don’t want to make your own dough but want a thin crust. Thanks so much to the owner for showing me around, absolutely the highlight of my week. He’s such a kind gentleman and proud of his business of over ten years. Check them out when you get a chance!

Sunbake… Is it worth the sojourn for me all the way to the north north? Most definitely. When I first tried this place, after stepping thru the door and seeing multiple bottles of Siracha on the counter tables, I knew this place does not mess around. One of the best cheap eats in the city also with so many take home eats as well. Cheese & meat pitas are my game. Just be warned. They are deceivingly filling for their size. Bring your A-game hunger. Staff are super friendly and always offering tastes of everything! How can you say no to that!

Good variety. Crisp pitas. Fast. Cheap. I always purchase my fresh pitas here for my sons lunches. This place blows the pita pit out of the water. The menu has all varieties of cheeses or meats or veggies to be topped on your pita and baked in a stone oven. It took less than 5 min to order and receive my meal. I ordered the chicken shwarma(only after being curious after watching the avengers of what the hell it actually was). It was good. Spicy with a good kick. I love the garlic paste they add to it. The veggies were fresh and did not get soggy from being baked so that was a bonus. I would recommend this. I actually had a shwarma craze afterwards and bought the spices for it and garlic paste with pitas at the mediterean market afterwards. But baking at home doesnt really replicate the crispness from their oven. I enjoy this when im in a rush and feel like a pita. Its actually really good. Place is pretty clean too.

Four words: IN-CRED-I-BLE. Ok, it’s one… but it deserves four when we’re talking about Sunbake. This place has been on my «to try» list for quite some time, and I know it won’t be long before we are back… the staff/owners were SUPER friendly, and the food was incredible. The prices are also very reasonable(bordering on cheap). There are only two things that could improve this place: 1. location — more central and not on some weird side street; 2. more seating. Other than that… not to be missed.
