This is a very small store. Limited stock on shelves. Not a lot of selection.
Checkout is same as a convenience store not like grocery store so it is awkward if you have a lot of groceries.
Cashiers were not friendly and I was told they wouldn’t except the Sobey’s gift card I had. It then took the cashier 5 tries to put through my debit card, telling me I needed a new card — it was a new debit card that I used earlier that day.
I’m glad that is not the only option I have for buying groceries because I wouldn’t like going there on a regular basis.

This location gets a bad rap for pricing, though prices have improved substantially over the last 3 years. Still markedly increased from Safeway or Superstore (larger locations), but that’s expected. Points for convenience, service, and freshness. Take it for what it is (and is intended to be), and you’ll leave satisfied.

I’m glad I don’t live on campus and have this as my neighbourhood grocery store. The layout is strange, selection is limited (very limited in some aspects) and the lines can get lengthy. So why on earth did I give it four stars?
This Sobey’s is FANTASTIC for a quick bite to eat. With a hot lunch bar (and breakfast sandwiches too), they have sushi, soup, salads and (always!) some of the best cut pineapple I’ve ever had. They also have a full café that seems to compete fairly well with the nearby Starbucks, Second Cup, and Tim Hortons. The best part? There’s adequate seating to enjoy whatever food you happen to find and it’s a perfect place for people watching.
Prices are typical of Sobey’s — it won’t necessarily be a cheap lunch, but when the weather’s nice, I absolutely love walking over to this somewhat hidden gem. (And like I said, the pineapple has never done me wrong)

This Sobeys does the job. It’s small but it has all of the basics. They have decent soups for lunch and they rotate through a variety of prepared meals each day, so if you need a quick inexpensive no thrills dinner or lunch that is warm, it does the job. There are a few young pre-​Madonna cashiers who come off rude at the check and don’t even say hello but other than that this place serves the public well.

I can understand why this Sobey’s would appeal to some university students with it’s tasty ready made lunch options and coffee bar. They even have tables out in the spring and summer which is nice if you want to spend some time outside but are not wanting to venture further down Whyte to an actual restaurant where there is likely to be more crowds and chaos.
The selection here is not that great. I came in on a Thursday night around 5 o clock and all the buns were gone except one lone package of Hamburger buns. I am not just talking one variety of bun either… quite literally ALL of them were gone. The freezer food section was not even half of what you would expect at any other grocery store and the milk which is usually a staple of anybodies shopping trip is in a tiny cooler at the back of the store which was also suffering from a severe lack of stock.
The prices here are almost double what you would find at a larger store in some areas and I think they are really taking advantage of folks living near Whyte as well as students without cars knowing that the only other option they have close by is that dirty run down Safeway further up Whyte ave.
If you look at it like a really big convenience store where you can grab a pop or a take out sandwich then it’s not so bad but as an actual grocery store I think that it fails the community on too many levels.

If you take it at face value as a small urban grocer with just the essentials, it’s a good place to shop, especially in a pinch after work or school. However, prices here are higher than any other Sobeys in Edmonton, so if you are budget conscious and can drive to another grocer, it may be worth your while.

This Sobeys is great as long as you treat it like a small speciality shop rather than comparing it to large supermarkets like the nearby Safeway. It isn’t supposed to have every product under the sun: it’s supposed to have a good selection of the basics for when you need to pick up one or two things (which it does).
I really like the atmosphere of this store. It’s bright and friendly. Even though Sobeys is a large chain, this location feels more like a local garden market than a real grocery store. It has a look of «freshness» about it, though perhaps that could be because I tend to migrate towards the produce section!
As others have mentioned, the prices here are a bit higher than other stores so you’re definitely sacrificing location for value when you come here. However, when they do have sales, they’re good. Watch the flyers and buy selectively and you’ll leave happy.
My biggest pet peeve about coming here is the way their lineups are arranged. It all feels very chaotic. I think this store would really benefit from having a single queue for all of the registers rather than the anarchy that occurs when between the two sides of the counter. I always feel like I’m gambling over which line is going to move faster though maybe I’m just bitter because I always guess wrong!

While admittedly convenient, this Sobeys location is too small. Many basics that one might expect to find in a smaller format grocery store are unavailable. If you only want food and other basic kitchen staples, then you should be alright.

This is a lifesaver when staying at the Stollery for any length of time. It’s literally less than 5 minutes from the ped way (2^nd floor) to the East Parkade!

Great, convenient location. Decent selection for a small store. That’s about it. I mean, I do love that they have a little café section and coffee bar, but the produce is over-​priced, the hours aren’t great, and there isn’t much for variety.
And why the heck can’t they accept a phone number for the Sobey’s card?!

What an upbeat hidden treasure across the street from the University of Alberta Hospital. The best tastiest place to come for lunch as their workers behind the counter are all about the service! Tasty ready made lunches either home styled cooking or delicious soup and sandwiches! Get your tray of ethnic food and heat in their available microwaves. Plenty of tables to sit and eat with no pressure. I cant say enough about the food options for your lunch and yes, there is a grocery store also! IN the summer, take your to go lunches and go eat on the grass across the street in the Park!
