Save On Foods

BEST CHAIN for NATURAL PRODUCTS.
For those of us not living downtown or on whyte, it can be quite a hassle to buy groceries for a conscientious and dietary restricted household; this Save On (lovingly called «Hippie Save On» by my family) delivers an EXCELLENT selection of all natural, vegan, organic, fair trade, ect. goods, all with prices places like Planet Organic and (sorry) Blush Lane can’t compete with. Don’t get me wrong, I love supporting these adorable local groceries when I can, but I just love, love LOVE that a large chain grocery store has such an excellent selection of the exact same products/​brands, be it food, cleaning supplies, or beauty products. Did I mention that throughout the isles they also have big green iron borders around all of the natural foods, to make it SUPER easy to find.
However, I must say if you’re looking for a WIDE variety of fresh organic produce you really have to hit this location on the right day. They always stock a revolving assortment of interesting produce (tomatillos, purple potatoes, a bunch of root things I’ve had to google) but, sadly, not in their organic section. They also have a great assortment of unique/​local preserves, cheeses and dips. Great for anyone planning a tapas/​charcuterie plate for their next potluck.

We grocery shop constantly. We do not go once or twice a week. We go everytime we need a meal. I know it costs more, but we eat out a lot and do not want store bought food to go bad.
This store is probably one of the best on the north side. It is clean, almost always has the things we are looking for in stock, and has great selection of products.
I cannot think of any complaints, really.
What I would like to say is that their meat area is probably one of the best I have ever seen in a big box grocery store as far as selection. They have a lot of meats that you cannot get anywhere else (GREAT variety of lamb!) unless you go to a butcher shop.
The staff has always been helpful and friendly.
I find myself shopping there more and more, even though it is out of the way for us, as it is nice to shop with confidence knowing we will leave with what we are looking for and not have to stop elsewhere to pick up items they didn’t have.

Convenient, friendly staff and well organized (for a save on). The bulk section is one of the better ones of any of the mass grocery stores in the city, and the preroasted chickens are well priced and great for making soup. We usually have good luck with the produce department, as well.
