So many people ordered take out, the most sure clue to the superb quality of the food here. I was quite impressed, it was nearly gourmet! And for the price the portions were quite ample. I’m satisfied!

We went for Saturday morning carribean Doubles this morning. We sat in the restaurant to eat. There were 10 of us. The service was so slow it was humorous. It took about 15 minutes for a cup of coffee! Apparently they brew each cup separately or something… how much sense does that make in a restaurant!!! Needless to say, they told us it was going to take a long time for a refill and never did bring us one. They don’t seem to have menus or they don’t like to give them out… strange for sure. The doubles tasted good… but all of them were cold. The salt fish and bake was not what I’m used to. I wouldn’t have it again. There was hardly any fish in it. I know that they make some amazing chicken roti, cause we had a friend bring it over to our home one time. I would definitely order their roti and take it home but I would never dine in again.

Good food and great service. A good way to have a little bit of everything in India at a friendly price.

Located in the same parking lot as the Sherbrooke Liquor Store, Sagar serves both East and West Indian(or really Trinidadian) Cuisine, but our waitress mentioned that they were shifting their focus to more of a West Indian emphasis. I went for a Saturday lunch, when they were only serving West Indian dishes. And given how elegantly spiced their West Indian curries are, this is a good direction for them to go, as there are a number of «East Indian» options in this city, but few caribbean ones. One highlight of the meal was the enormous, sweet, and bouncy Paratha. I also devoured a bread with chickpea flour in the middle(or was it dal)? Goat was nice and tender and in a delicious sauce. They also sell Trinidadian pops, which are always tasty. Décor is fairly typical for an Edmonton Indian place — white tablecloths, darkness, carpeting. I will be back to try the lunch buffet.

Sagar is located in a random spot(although it’s right by Sherbrooke Liquor Store) along the traffic circle on 118 Avenue. You’re in for a pleasant surprise when you first walk into the restaurant. It’s surprisingly very nice inside(although their artwork is crooked according to my friend). Service is friendly and our drinks were constantly filled while we went back and forth to help ourselves to the lunch buffet. Did I mention the lunch buffet is SOCHEAP! $ 12.50 per person is a steal especially with the variety you get. Here’s what they had: — Caribbean style soup — a bit of noodles, carrots and potatoes. It could easily be mistaken as vegetable soup but this one was much more flavourful. — Vegetarian pakoras — Fish pakoras — very light and tender. My friend really liked the fish pakoras but I thought they could have used a bit more flavour and could have been warmer(they were luke warm at best). — Rice — Vegetarian biryani — nice contrast to the regular rice dish they offered. Biryani had a nice mix of vegetables and coriander in it. — Dal tarka — spicy lentil dish that was actually spicy! — Pumpkin exotica — first time I’ve had a pumpkin dish Indian style. It was actually very good, nice chunks of pumpkin and pineapple in it to give some sweetness to the dish. — Butter chicken — I like how it wasn’t too heavy/creamy like the ones you normally get in town. As always, great sauce for your naan bread! — Curry goat — went hard on the seconds for the goat curry. Nice and tender, fall off the bone curry goat goodness. — Beef vindaloo — Naan — fresh, fluffy and they bring it to your table without even having to ask for it! — Gulab jabun and fresh fruit for dessert(pineapple, honey dew and cantaloupe) — Complimentary cup of chai latte — we took these to go and they were a great way to end our meal. All in all, very filling meal and pretty good food for the price that you pay. Will have to try their dinner buffet to see what other things they offer(dinner is $ 16.50 I believe). They had some other menu items(see below) that looked pretty interesting.
