My boyfriend and I stopped in around 11 and noticed there was not much left to select from so we ordered a low fat lemon dream and a chocolate chip muffin and the first thing I want to note was my shock at paying almost five dollars for two muffins. Even worse was the fact that they were extremely stale and chewy… absolutely the worst baked good I have put in my mouth ever and totally unacceptable for the price that you pay. There were two people working that day and no other customers in line at the time so why couldn’t one person be in the back preparing new muffins and replenishing the empty trays? This place is sandwiched in between the Cookies By George and the Starbucks and if this is the standard of goods they turn out everyday I have no idea how they are still in business.

I’ve been a fan of this place ever since I was little (back in the days when there was still a Northgate location). Yes, the prices have jumped up over the years, but I always find the quality and taste to be just how I remember. I know, being downtown, that they bake their stock in the morning and close when they run out, so it’s always hot or miss if I’ll get what I’m after when I happen to be there. Service is adequate, and they never give me crap about using my debit card for one muffin. As long as they are there, I will continue to stop in whenever I happen to be in the core.

For many years when I was in a mood for a muffin I would head to mmmuffins for their apple cinnamon. It was my favourite muffin and I have never found another to compare. Recently I was in City Centre on a way to a meeting and decided to get an apple cinnamon. Glad there was no line up and there were about 5 muffins left. There were other kinds but the selection doesn’t seem to be large.
I got my muffin but had sticker shock that the price is now $ 2.25. Yes, it tastes better than other fast food places that sells muffins and it’s not processed and tastes freshly baked. But I found it lacked a little more cinnamon than in the past.
I would still go back and have this muffin once in a while and hope it’s a little more spicy!

I got a fat boy on at mmmuffins (great name) the other day and I was certainly pleased.
They have little boxes of muffins, kind of like the ones Timbits come in, so you can take the buttery goodness with you on-the-go…which is exactly what I did on the bus back from Edmonton City Centre.
The muffins aren’t out of this world but they certainly hit the spot. This muffin stand’s only problem is that it’s right next to a Cookie’s by George. Cookies, which are made by George, are better than everything, which sucks for mmmuffins.
