Went here on a Wednesday night and the place was bustling! I personally prefer this location to the downtown one as the service here at the south, is miles above. Staff(who are outfitted in pretty kimono’s) are friendly, attentive and quick to recommend dishes– which is great if you are unfamiliar with Japanese food, or want to try something new. Our waitress was great at doing quality checks on our food and checking to see if everything was okay. This is something I have noticed that has been lacking at a lot of restaurants lately so I really appreciated the great service she gave. For seating you have your choice of sitting at regular tables, the sushi bar or private tatami rooms. The sushi bar is a great option as you can see the skilled sushi chefs crafting their creations and the tatami rooms are also a great choice, which offer privacy and makes you feel like you are dining in Japan. Don’t worry about your legs hurting though because there is a «cheat» hole cut out in the bottom, so you are basically sitting at a normal western style table with the appearance of dining Japanese. I would recommend the lychee sake, it is really yummy and not to over powering. The drink menu also boasts some interesting cocktails,(some made with sake!) and Japanese beers. For appetizers we ordered the deep fried tofu which is tempura-ed ad and cooked with green onion, ginger, nori and grated radish. Yummy! And shrimp tempura. The batter was light and flaxy, making this a perfect appetizer as the dish did not feel heavy or greasy. I can also confidently say that the BBQ veggies, fire balls and sushi pizza are all great appetizer choices. I find that the seafood here is always fresh and doesn’t have a foul smell or fishy taste. This is one of the better places in the city for Japanese food and I do prefer it to Kyoto. P/S Mikado also caters group events and parties!
