MAC Cosmetics

Booked an appt for my 14 year old daughter to have a makeup lesson. With her just starting to dabble in wearing make-​up I want her to do it right and have the confidence to try new techniques, colours etc. When I booked the appt in person everyone In the store was so nice. So I left with a good feeling and was excited to bring her back for her appt. We showed up for her appt and things felt very different. with a slight confusion as to appt time at the start and than disinterested staff. I talked to the lady that would be helping us and asked that she use an age appropriate amount of make up on her as she is only 14 as well as to help create a look wthat would b easy for my daughter to duplicate at home. and of course to explain to her as she went, what colours and shades would be best for her, techniques etc. Her response was pretty much to say that that was not what they did there. She was there to do my daughters makeup and that was it. I had to get pushy and ask her to at least tell her what you are doing as she was doing it. She seemed unimpressed but said she would try. I left and watched from the sitting area outside the store in the mall. This girl pretty much did her makeup in silence. I could see through the window there was little to no conversation and no level of excitement I would expect/​hope. The other technicians were talking and laughing with thier clients. I know myself when I’m doing something I love there is an excitement. So obviously this is just a job to her… i couldnt see my daughters face from where i was sitting so i was not prepared for how she looked when i picked her up… and i was utterly shocked when i saw her and the amount of makeup on her face. she had so much powder on her face and it was the obvioulsy 2 – 3 shades lighter than her normal skin tone. and it was packed on and it was really flaky. it did not speak well to the quality of your products. her eyebrows were so dark and exaggerated… i tried to downplay it to spare my daughterds feelings but i know the technician could see the look of shock and horror on my face and my constant us of the word «wow». and not used in a good way. the positves were that her lips were pink and glossy and looked really pretty and when we got to the till instead of just paying the 30.00 for the «lesson» we were able to use the 30.00 fee towards an item!!! its too bad we had this expereince cause i had budgeted to spend at least 250.00 there. i spent my 30.00 and left. i have booked an appt with merle norman and am hoping the experience is better!

I have had nothing but great customer service here. When I found out that my favorite mascara was discontinued, the girl that was helping me suggested a similar one. She also let me know that I could return it if I was unhappy with it. In general, she was friendly and very helpful and I greatly appreciated it! I just wish I remembered what her name was.

Always great staff and help although this location could use more stock on items.

Makeup stores make me think of candy stores for adults, with all the colours and bright lights — all the little goodies just begging you to try them and take them home. This store is no exception, very nicely organized and appealing. I’ve been there perhaps six times, each time it’s busy which results in interruptions when you’re consulting a sales person, but they handle it well for the most part.
The product is good — eye colours are well pigmented and have decent staying power. There’s a good range of blushes and I appreciated they can go on lightly without any clown effects. I’ve not tried their foundations. Interesting to note is that two other makeup stores have both referred me to MAC for their eyelash adhesive DUO rather than their own brands. I love using their cream shadows (the little tubes) as a base for other shadows, and they helped me track down a discontinued colour I yearned to get.
Although I’ve found the staff friendly, I’ve not yet experienced having one who seemed really knowledgeable or creative when I’m choosing coordinating shades — maybe I have just always gotten a newer employee or something. I like hearing new ideas and just felt that part was a bit lacking. That fifth star is reserved for another location store where every employee seems like a real MUA — I’ll review them separately.

I’ve shopped at MACs all over the world and their quality and variety of products are always impressive and standard for all their locations. What made this store stand out for me was their staff. I’m surprised that there were reviews saying their staff weren’t friendly because I’ve had amazing customer service at this location.
I have allergies and had to inquire on ingredients for multiple products. The staff took the time to look up every product for me and even gave me samples to make sure I wouldn’t have a reaction to it before I got it. I ended up walking out with Purchases I felt extremely confident with.
I had also been trying on a lot of products that day and the staff were nice enough to let me know that I had some lip colour on my teeth. It’s always good to be told so you can fix it than have to walk around shopping all day with lip stick stained teeth! Definitely check out this MACs if you are looking for some high end make up :)

When I go to a MAC store or a MAC retailor in the USA, I am treated like the runway beauty queen of the store. The staff are courteous and helpful, they even used other MAC product I already owned with the new products I purchased to let me see the overall appearance of the makeup.
When I go to the MAC store at Kingsway I feel like I am nothing more then an inconvenience to the entire staff.
Gratefully I travel to the US regularly and have access to the USA stores cause the store here is no where I ever want to return to.
Customer service is your industry, sadly this store needs a total reeducation on it.

I am a Hairstylist by trade but like to pick up my smaller brushes and dabble with MAC on my clients. I have been going to MAC kingsway for about 3 years give or take and they never let me down with my own personal needs for skincare and make up application tips for any occasion coming up.
The ladies at this location are so helpful even giving me full instructions on a face diagram with the shades i use. Knowing the expertise and true kindness of this place i always recommend this place to my clients for Weddings and night outs… etc

If I could give MAC three and a half, I would. I’ve had both amazing and terrible service at this store. The good outweighs the bad, however. I had a bad reaction to a lipstick that had way too much castor oil in it, and they let me bring it back and tried their best to find me something else that would work. I love their blushers, and have several that are staples in my train case. I’m also a fan of the lipglass and lipliners. The store is always bright, clean and well organized, and the specialty collections they come out with are always a lot of fun. I regret not getting a few of the wonder woman goodies. I had one of the girls do my eyes for St. Patties this year, and she did a stellar job of not only my makeup, but making sure I could recreate what she had done at home.

I recently went to a formal evening event so along with getting my hair done (see my Marvel College review) I decided to splurge and have my make up professionally done too.
I am not a big make-​up person. I don’t wear any on a daily basis and don’t like the feeling of too much on my face. I am very impressed with the quality of product that MAC sells. I own very little make up but it is all MAC brand as it feels light on my face and stays on for a long period of time without needing touch ups. So if I were rating the product I would give it 4 stars. However I am rating this store on my makeover experience.
I have never been to the MAC in Kingsway and the first thing I will note is the location — it is right next to the food court so it gets lots of traffic. This is a good thing for the store in general but not so good when you are having your make up done because you can be interrupted several times and the makeup artist can be easily distracted. Also because it was so busy I had to wait; even though I was on time for my scheduled appointment, the artist was helping someone else, and I had to wait an additional 15 minutes.
Once I sat down and we started I was happy that the artist was attentive — first we talked about what I was wearing for the night and she suggested some colors to bring out the green in my eyes. Then as we went on she always checked if I liked what she was doing and asked if I had other suggestions or ideas. But sometimes the attentiveness was a detriment as she would check if I like the way my eye would look half way through applying the eye shadow — I wasn’t able to appreciate the whole affect so I found it difficult to provide feedback. Another thing that I will say is that she was clearly a sales person; as with every product she used on my face felt like I was in my own personal commercial as she would push the product hard with the benefits of why I would need it.
Overall I enjoyed the experience and was happy with the result but felt pressured into purchasing items that I didn’t need or want.

MAC cosmetics are my favourite! I started wearing them a number of years ago and have been impressed with them ever since. Part of what I like about the eye shadows is they don’t clump up into the crease of your eye and they actually stay put all day long without losing their colour intensity. MAC mascara is OK but until they get a mineral one I’ll stick with L’Oreal. But their loose and pressed powders are great for the same reason as the eye shadows.
I have had nothing but helpful service every time I’ve gone in. And, the staff has certainly been johnny-​on-​the-​spot when it comes to make-​up application.
MAC provides a free lipstick or lip gloss when you bring back 5 (or is it 6) empty MAC containers. Yup, they’re holding up a good corporate image and it helps keep me coming back.

Probably one of my favorite makeup brands. MAC carries a variety of makeup products which are long lasting and intensely pigmented. New collections are released every few months. Bring back 6 empty product containers and get a lipstick (or eyeshadow, I think) for free.
As for the store, it’s neatly organized and you can try all the products. I received help when I wanted it and was left alone when I didn’t. Employees are always very nice.

This is a recent addition to Kingsway and I’ll say that it looks impressive but like many things looks can be deceiving.
I was browsing and reading the ingredients (as I need to do since I have extremely sensitive skin) and an employee dove at a drawer at my shin and started opening it saying, «Sorry, I have to get in here.» Not «excuse me» or anything. So I walked to a totally different part of the store. The other chick working there did the exact same thing! How does that saying go… fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me… something like that. When the first clerk approached me and asked in the same, rude tone of voice if she could help me, I said no and walked out.
