History

Established in 2004.

Headcase Hats was established in 2004. The founder of Headcase Hats, a former teacher looking to open a business, saw a need to offer hats to a dedicated market, rather than as an accessory being sold in a clothing store. With so many options, needs, colours, sizes and styles to contend with, hats needed to be given a special place in Edmonton’s retail scene. In 2004, hats were slowly but surely coming back into the fashion scene. Today, hats have a definite place, not only in the fashion world, but in the world of practical need and long term use. Hats may never again be an item that is taboo to leave the house without (as they were in the past), they are a valued, and often adored accessory for many. We are proud to say with certainty that Hats are Back and They’re Here to Stay!

Sandra is the friendly owner of Headcase Hats, and says opening a hat store was an idea that literally appeared out of nowhere. This idea, however, has turned out to be one of her best, as she loves her store and the people she meets everyday.

Sandra believes in old-​fashioned customer service. Paying attention to her customers, welcoming them, appreciating everyone who visits, and encouraging people to have fun is a must for her. Sandra’s special talent of looking at a person and picking out the perfect hat for them gets better everyday!

I bought my wedding veil from Headcase– a cute little feathery flower headband with a sweet retro veil on it. I left it on my coffee table after showing it to my grandmother, and my dog ate it. She ripped giant holes in the veil and got her drool all over the fluffy feathers.
Sarah Sunshine Deen makes custom headpieces and fascinators at the Whyte Ave location (which, btw, has an elevator… so read a sign before you walk up three floors). She was able to replace my netting and work with my picky bride tastes to make my veil look as good as new.
Plus I found a sequined pink maple leaf fascinator the second time I went.
I would recommend this shop to everyone. You can find everything from top hats, to floppy beach hats, to Kangols. And every classy lady should go see Sarah. Her work in the store is very lovely, but she confessed that she likes to make wild and artsy headpieces as well.

Made the 3 story climb to «a hat store» on the recommendation of my sis on an «essential shopping trip.»
Wow! She was right!
I picked up MY hat and I absolutely love it. A little pricey but you can feel like your hat personality is represented.
Go check this store out! And yes there is an elevator :)

Great place for hat aficiondos hidden down a hallway on the third floor above a Starbucks on Whyte Ave and 103 St. Sarah Deen is extremely friendly and helped me find the right hat from their tremendous selection!

For those who are used to flimsy cloth fedoras, the prices here may seem steep. For those who are used to real hats, however, they are very reasonable. I can’t really speak as to the ladies’ side of things, but as far as men’s hats go, they have a decent selection.
However, medium and large hats (i.e., the ones worn by 75% of the population) tend to sell out quickly, and restocking isn’t always as frequent as one would like.

I love this place! Before Headcase opened, it was so hard to find a lot of styles of hats in the city, and either the quality or the prices I encountered were often questionable. Since the opening of Headcase, I went from owning two hats to owning somewhere over fifty. They get new styles in all the time, even some one-​of-​a-​kind hand made hats, and the staff are strangely good at picking out what looks good on you. The staff also recognized me after only a few visits, which was surprising.
The prices range from 10 – 25 bucks all the way up to hundreds, but most casual hats are somewhere between 30 and 60. This place is especially good if you’re looking for a specific kind of hat, for example, when it needs to be «perfect» for a costume.

I like this location better than the 124 St store for the wider inventory available here. BUT I found the personal service even better downtown. Not that I didn’t get good service at Whyte, it was just that much better downtown. Having someone help you try different styles and give honest feedback about what works and doesn’t makes for a memorable experience.

Headcase Hats is a bit off the beaten path, no pun intended. While it is located on Whyte Ave, you can easily miss it, because of its 3rd floor location. I started buying hats at Headcase about three years ago. First one, and then another.
If you are done with ball caps, this is the place for you. The staff are great, and the selection, while not immense, is solid. They always seem to have something that I like. In fact, I plan on going in this week to check out the new Spring arrivals. One of the best little gems this city has to offer.

Headcase is a quaint little 3rd storey shop in the perugia building on Whyte Ave and 104th street. It has a modern showroom like feel to it, with less natural light and more spotlights and so on.
A fine collection of headcases, scarfs etc. dress the walls and stands in the store. I really like this place and recently bought m’self a tuque from here. Most of the prices are reasonable and commensurate with the prices at other boutique like stores on Whyte Ave. Definitely worth it for people who likes to spend money on their clothes, but, nevertheless, not overly expensive.
It’s certainly a place for someone who’s a nutcase for headcases! You can spend time just trying out all kinds of hats, from vintage tastes to chic-​Parisian modern looks, this store has it all. Even some funky and strange looking hats for the courageous at heart.
Customer appreciation! They have a stamp card where you get a 40% discount on the 4th «hat» you buy from them. The best part though, is that the stamp card is transferrable since it really isn’t that easy, even for the staunchest of hat lovers. Or maybe I’m wrong? Try this place out — certainly lives up to the high expectations of a Whyte Ave boutique.

I have never seen a store so dedicated to hats. I don’t mean ball caps, I mean actually hats. Hats that are used as a fashion statement and are matched to the rest of your outfit. If these are the kind of hats you need then this is the only place you need to go to.
The guys selection isn’t as good as the ladies, but I don’t think most guys put that much thought into hats and most guys probably can’t pull them off. They have all kinds of hats though, fedoras, berets, cowboy, I don’t know the names of the others but some of them look like they are right out of the Dick Tracey movie, or a Michael Jackson video.
I randomly decided to stop and check this store out and I am glad I did. Even though I don’t wear these kind of hats, I know now where to go to find specialized hats.

Headcase may be easy to miss due to its discreet location, but it shouldn’t! This store is the ultimate shopping destination for hat lovers. Whatever types of hats are your favorite and whichever styles flatter you the most, you will be able to locate them here. Since Headcase sells hats exclusively, expect to find carefully chosen items of superior quality. This time of year (when six months of Edmonton winter are coming) Headcase carries winter hats that look warm, comfy, yet stylish. You can choose among berets and caps, pull ons and bretton hats. Slouchy knit hats seem to be especially in style this year, and are a popular choice among shoppers (three girls in the line in front of me each bought one). Headcase also carries elegant retro and western hats, fedoras and bucket hats. Frankly, I don’t even know the names for all the styles sold here.
Men’s hats selection is just as great. It is not as elaborate as women’s, but still great.
Prices vary, but since Headcase is a specialized store, expect to pay a bit more.

Hats are always a fun way to show some personality, and Headcase Hats has something for every personality out there. If you’re looking for a hat or just like to have fun trying them on, this is a good place to visit. They’ve got quality hats in all designs and colors. I’m personally a big fan of the wide-​brimmed and feathery hats, just cause they’re so much fun to try on! And that’s just what I did this afternoon, trying to see which hat made me look goofiest. My favorite one though, was the Scottish-​style hat on my boyfriend … I had tears from laughing so hard. The staff are really nice, they encourage you to try on the hats and don’t pressure you into buying anything. While I’m not exactly on the market for head-​décor right now, as I have too much already, I’m going to keep Headcase Hats in mind.

Headcase has such a huge selection of hats, that sometimes I wish I had more than one head! Seriously, the hats range from conservative to wild, and come from a variety of designers. I have a hard time finding a hat that fits properly, because I guess my head is shaped unusually or large, but at Headcase I actually have some choices. There are hats here for both men and women, and for all seasons. The staff is really great and you can have a lot of fun trying on the different looks. I’m a beret girl myself. I have a friend who is a fedora fanatic and on a first name basis with the owner. You can also get alterations and repairs done to your old hats. Headcase is like a hat museum where you become part of the display!

If you’re a mad hatter you must check out this shop. It’s loads of fun to visit, primarily because you’re invited to try on whatever you like. They’ve got everything from the classic toque, beret, cloche, fedora and Henrietta to Poor Boys, Pork-​Pies, Kangols, Gangsters and top hats. There’s a special lid for everyone’s noggin here. These guys also alter hats, re-​size, stretch and line, so if you’ve got any of grandma’s or grandpa’s old caps you can bring them in and get some life breathed back into them. Sandra, the owner, is a really cool girl. She could talk about hats until the cows come home.
