Fandango’s is a country and western bar/restaurant/dance club located in the same location the old Wild West saloon operated out of for years on 50th street. The last time I ate at the old Wild West was when I was a kid some 25 years ago, so I thought it was high time I tried this place out. Gone are the black and white pictures of John Wayne, Johnny Cash and others of the country genre that hung on the walls. In their place are huge HD tvs and a modern dance floor. There were lots of posters advertising the live music events that are held here, and apparently they even have live pro wrestling from time to time. I just came for the food though. The waitress handed me a small menu that mainly features the typical pub grub fare. I decided upon a salad called the San Fran, a steak sandwich and a spinach and artichoke chip dip. The salad came first. It was a mix of lettuce, red peppers, feta cheese, almonds and cranberries. I found it to be stunningly good — one of the most tasty and interesting salads I’ve had in the long time. If you do go to Fandangos I really suggest you try the San Fran out. The steak sandwich was nothing special though and the spinach/artichoke dip was sub par compared to what I’ve had at other places. Total cost was $ 28. One major complaint about Fandango’s I had was the type of music they played over the speakers… believe it or not, they weren’t playing c/w music, they were playing 100.3 The Bear! WTF is a so called c/w establishment playing hard rock music for!!! Listening to Nirvana and Tool in such a place is a total disconnect. It would be like seeing Alison Redford in Playboy magazine. There should be a law against such things. Come on Fandango’s, get your act together and go back to your roots!
