Elite Event: Red Hot Rosso Nights

Really enjoyed this sit down event. My favourite Ruggeri Prosecco was served and the Maisei’s Wiesse beer is good. Nice snacks, and the panna cota gelato is again a favourite of mine.

Great event! The only problem I had was that my stomach has a limited capacity and there were too many great things to put in it! Beer, gelato, appetizers and pizza. How could I enjoy it all?
Rosso has a whole whack of different gelato flavours and I think I ended up with chocolate, nutella and bacci over the course of the evening. The appetizers were all really good and the pizza was even better. The one with the truffle oil was my favourite.
The highlight of the night was going into the back and getting to make a pizza of our own. We started with stretching the dough, then putting the toppings and cheese on then tossing it in the wood-​fired oven. I am a big fan of real thin crust European-​style pizza and I didn’t think there was a good place in the city to get it, but now I know there is!
I also was introduced to Maisel’s Weisse beer and really enjoyed it, as I’m a big white beer fan.

A great evening with wonderful food and fun company too! Loved how the owner was around to tell us about the specialty pizzas and to ensure we enjoyed ourselves — we most certainly did!

Maybe my favourite Elite Event yet?! But maybe it has something to do with the fact that I’m Italian and I love Italy and everything Italian.
In true Italian style, there was so much food! And so many drinks! The unlimited gelato was a great way to cool down as it was a little bit stuffy in the restaurant. The sweet Unilocal fans helped with that, too. Barb, the prosecco lady, was very generous in giving out glasses, and not only stayed at her station, but came around to the tables to top everyone up. Rosso provided tons of delicious food — cheese, olives, cold cuts, rapini, and quite a few types of pizza. I love the pizza sauce, very authentic. They also gave very generous glasses of three different types of quality beer.
It was really cool to have the opportunity to go into the kitchen and learn to make your own pizza. I was nervous at first because I was pretty sure I’d drop it on the floor or burn myself on the oven, but I managed not to embarrass myself and actually made a pretty tasty ‘za!
La Dolce Vita playing in the background was a nice touch, too. Great, great event, Jennie! Grazie!

Ladies dressed in red and spicy pizza made this a hot event but it was kept cool with many flavors of gelato, 3 free beers, and endlessly refilled Prosecco.
Pizzeria Rosso is a relative new comer to the restaurant scene in Edmonton but if they continue making great food then they’ll be a mainstay for a long time. Classic Italian flatbread pizza with fresh ingredients is the cornerstone to this cozy yet surprisingly large space. The patio looks onto the parking lot but at least allows for some to enjoy their gelato in the warm summer breeze.
Jennie does a great job bringing together the right combination of sponsors/​businesses. Great beers, fresh and bubbly prosecco, flower arrangements from Grower Direct, A/​V with a black and white movie all wrapped up in the host restaurant created a great ambiance for the Elites that were lucky enough to attend.
My 2 favorite gelatos were the Cinnamon and Lemon and they were so good that I thought I would invent a few concoctions.
1. Double Espresso with Cinnamon Gelato sounded amazing and it was but I wasn’t the first to come up with it. Apparently it’s called an Affogato. My suggestion would be to drop a small scoop of gelato in the espresso cuz it’s still better when the drink is warm instead of cold from too much gelato.
2. Prosecco with Lemon Gelato made perfect sense in my mind but alas I wasn’t alone. It’s called a Sgroppino. Once again I’d suggest a ⁵⁰⁄₅₀ mix of the two ingredients then also mix/​blend it together to make it better. The proper sgroppino also had vodka and is usually blended to make a smoothie.
Amazing events like this bring the Edmonton elite together, introduces new venues and showcases Jennie’s amazing party planning skills. I can’t wait for the next one!

Another slam-​dunk for UnilocalYEG’s CM Jennie, and a fantastic «coming out» party for the new Rosso Pizzeria! I’ve stopped in since the change from Da Capo a few months ago, and while I noticed the definite improvement in décor and that beautifully giant oven in the back, I hadn’t had the chance to fully experience the new menu — it did not disappoint! The handsome gentlemen from Canmore serving up beer samples were also a welcome addition. We came hungry, left happy, and have a new favorite place to come back to in the Garneau area.

This was a great event, maybe one of the best. The crowd was fantastic, maybe except for one with flying elbows, but otherwise a good crowd. The location was totally freakn awesome. I had no clue that this space even existed? I thought the whole building was the smile zone, I left Rosso’s with a smile, actually a large grin, the Belgium beers may have assisted just a pinch in that but I really liked it there. The pizza has changed my aspect of pizza, all other pizzas will now be compared to the Rosso’s pizza, but I doubt any would match. I really liked that it was a South event as well as it seems a majority of them are North of the river. The staff there were very friendly and knowledgable. I look forward to returning here and continuing enjoying the elite events and great food.

This event was, for me, the definition of why it is such a great idea for local businesses to jump on board with the Unilocal community by hosting these types of events. Why would I say that? Because I had no clue this place was ever there until I was looking right at it! Some of the best pizza I have experienced in all of Edmonton, and I could have never known it even existed! Thank goodness they chose to close down shop and open up their doors exclusively for us Unilocalers, or I may have missed out!
I am pretty confident that this pizza is made on the best crust I have EVER tasted! One large PLAIN pizza for Amanda please! The ingredient combinations they use here are ridiculous — ridiculously good! Unique flavours combined to make some of the most interesting (in a VERY GOOD way) pizza I have ever had! Some people were so excited about the pizza that they could barely contain themselves — it was almost like trying to take a piece of fresh tuna away from a hungry, protective cat at times — YIKES!
The owner is charismatic and friendly — a true Italian who makes you feel right at home! They have a variety of beverages, a cappuccino machine (which I hear rumours may be among the best in all of Edmonton), and (my personal favorite in terms of treats) dozens of flavours of authentic Gelato!
Come here for the high class pizza dinning experience or quick bowl of mouth watering Gelato! A well rounded establishment that I can see being around for some time! Thank you Jennie for introducing us to this Gem and for hosting yet another amazing event. As always, it was better than I could have ever expected.

It was my first elite experience and it was phenomenal. I could not be happier when I found out the event is in Rosso. This place is my favorite pizza place in town with great selection of beers and I am lucky to live just a few blocks away.
It was definitely food heaven, sampling cheese platters, delicious pizza variations, great Belgium beers and splendid gelato. Luckily I got a chance to try making a pizza in the kitchen and I really liked it. I am grateful for the experience. All the crew were really friendly and proud of Rosso and I enjoyed it.

I was lucky enough to snag an invite to this event for donating the flower arrangement and rose petals for the women’s washroom (Sorry guys, I’ll make a note for the next event that you guys would also like flowers in the washroom!)
I was so busy trying all the delicious pizza creations, sampling beers and spooning Limone gelato into my Prosseco to create a delicious iceberg style drink — I missed out on the pizza making fun in the back — but what a great idea! Sounds like a blast!
The service was wonderful — the staff were attentive and very helpful. The owners took a lot of pride in their delicious food and explained in detail where the product came from, what it was, how they personally like their pizzas (With a poached egg on top — YUM. I’ve GOT to try that one day.) Overall great atmosphere, food was delicious, above the bar looked as though they have quite the bottled beer selection available.
I felt very spoiled to be at this wonderful event. Way to go Jennie on yet another successful Unilocal Elite Event! Thanks for letting me tag along!

At the beginning we were greeted by a glass of Prosecco, then we had the chance to taste all the bears on tap. For some strange (Good) reason, two of my all time favorites were in the list (st bernardus and Maisel’a Weisse) :D As Usual Rosso did an excellent job, the food was amazing. One of the best pizzas that I had in Canada.
But the surprise of the night for me was when they let us inside the kitchen to make a pizza. Such an amazing experience, :D I was surprised by the texture of pizza dough. It was extremely silky and soft, spreading it was very therapeutic, The owner told me that the flour is specially imported for their recipe and is unique in Canada.
Also, you could have asked for a sample of their gelatos during the night, we tried the nuttela and pistachio both had excellent taste and texture.

Once again, YEG’s fabulous CM Jennie pulls off another fantastic event! This was my first visit to Rosso since it took over the old Da Cappo location. I’ll admit, I’m sad to see Da Cappo go. It was one of my favorite near-​campus spots for pizza, beer and gelato. However, much to my delight, Rosso is serving up something new while still providing my pizza-​beer-​gelato staples! The restaurant is beautiful inside. Same layout as Da Cappo, but all new trimmings. Staff went above and beyond in service. They were gracious, generous and very welcoming — oh, and they kept the food coming! I think I had 5 slices of pizza before I simply couldn’t eat anymore. Party had a great turn out and everyone chatted happily as old movies (set in Italy, of course) played in the background. All around a great event — Rosso really is red hot ;) What a great addition to the Edmonton dining scene!

Another awesome Elite Event by Jennie! The hosts of this one were incredible as well, opening up their business to Elites (and closing it down to others) for the evening.
It just doesn’t get any better than this!

Well done, Jennie, well done. My second Unilocal Elite event — just as fun as the first, but different in that it was much smaller. More intimate and felt less intimidated trying to meet new people :)
Rosso was great — my first time there — lovely décor inside and out. There was a very knowledgeable and charming bartender doling out some great Belgian and Bavarian beers, and there was quite the selection of bottles above the bar. Nice.
Appetizers were delish — they have an amazing variety of cheeses. The pizza was truly amazing — thin but chewy crust, lots of great combinations. My favourite was the wild mushrooms with truffle oil… om nom. Rossa also serves brunch — we got to sample a frittata omelette and a tenderloin skillet — tasty and oh so tender.
Learning how to make the pizza was so much fun — what an experience! The cooks were very patient with us and showed us how to stretch out the dough and slide it off the pizza wheel at the right angle into the scorching hot oven. The friendly owner was on hand to give us some tips as well — can’t load the pizza up with too much topping or it will get soggy!
Lovely evening overall — can’t wait for the next one!

I like any elite event where I grip dough and get dirty! And though my career as a pizza chef is unlikely to materialize due to a tendency to stretch things too thin, I still had a blast. Great spread (all sorts of pizza concoctions, what’s not to like), great beer, fun activities and humorous conversations. Glad to be back at an elite event. It’s been awhile! Thanks Jennie!

Wowie Zowie! I think Jennie did it again! We wined and dined on a delectable smörgåsbord of Persecco, Maisel’s Weisse, charcuterie boards, and pizzas galore! The baguette appetizers were a smash — my favorite was the housemade ricotta!
We were absolutely spoiled from start to finish! If you’re in the Garneau neighborhood, you won’t want to miss this gem! Stop in for an amazing gelato bar where you will be sure to want to try one or two! I highly recommend the pistachio and limone!
The Red Hot Rooso Nights was made even hotter when we were given the opportunity to go behind the scenes and make our very own pizza! Mine had a little accident on the way in and turned into a calzone ;-)
I don’t know about the boys, but us gals were spoiled by beautiful red roses in the powder room from Janice LeLacheur at Grower Direct Fresh Cut Flowers! I felt like I stepped onto the set of the Bachelorette washing my hands in a sink filled with rose petals.
