Dauphine Bakery and Bistro

I found this place while getting lost and I never been so happy to take a wrong turn
The place is in the basement and is great!!!
The server was wonderful and very helpful
I bought lime tart, two kind of cookies, and a brownie (it was one of those days)
They were so yummy
I’m looking forwards to go there to get some of their breads and to try the bistro

Absolutely run by monkeys this morning!!! I was extremely disappointed in the customer service at Dauphine. I was the first person in line with a long line behind me and the staff ignored all the customers. No eye contact, no «just be a second»… For serious it was twenty minutes later I finally was able to order my tea, and wait in the second line up. However the barista started making the drink orders of the customers who were in line behind me and I asked if my tea wasn’t meant to be first. Extremely rude and snooty shutdown by the barista who told me to wait my turn! The customers behind me «told on her» to the other staff members who got her to make the drinks in order finally.
I’m super disappointed because I have know the owners for so long as market vendors and they are such great people, it’s terrible to be represented by this type of staff. I can’t believe it took them 25 minutes to pour hot water, and they were rude about it. it’s definitely putting their worst foot forward and guaranteeing that I will go to Cavern instead. They are lucky they have cake to sweeten up the place!!!

Walked by the store and walked in only because I could smell the bread baking and the smell was intoxicating. Purchased a baguette, some hummus, and a butter tart. The tart was one of the best butter tart I’ve ever eaten in my life. The hummus and bread was excellent as well. The store has a cool vibe and delicious food.

I came here about 2 weeks ago on Saturday around 3:00pm. The service was pretty bad, there was about 5 people behind the counter and only 1 girl waiting on the tables. We wernt acknowledged for about 5 minutes so i wanted to take a look at the pastries because it was my first time. The waiter kinda snapped at me and was like «I will be right there!» Its like i get your busy I get that but as a paying customer you just have to acknowledge us. She was grabbing dishes off the table next to us and didn’t even say anything… was actually awkward. anyways the drinks we got were so full of syrup me and my friend had to choke it down. The bread on the sandwich was so hard it was painful to watch me eat it. let alone converse while eating. By the time were were done I left with my mouth ripped apart and my toilet at home. I had such a bad stomach ache an hour later I honestly couldn’t recommend this to anyone.

Today my dear friend took me for a birthday treat at Dauphine’s. We had a couple of brownies and sat at an available table and enjoyed our treats. There were empty tables but no chairs but we managed to find one with chairs.
My friend and I have come to Dauphine’s on numerous occasions for their lunches and pastries. The service was always good and the pastries were exceptional. However when we grabbed a table to enjoy the pastries, the owner commented on how we were sitting there and it is supposed to be full service here. We didn’t understand what that meant as we both enjoyed the pastries at Dauphine’s in the past.
As the bakery got busier and customers came in, the owner asked us to leave as it is full service. I found that very offensive and complained to the staff behind the counter. I have never been asked to leave a restaurant before, especially considering we paid for our pastries. It is a bakery after all. I told the owner that I found it atrocious that he asked us to leave. If you are a full service restaurant, then you should have enough chairs to accommodate the space. If we ordered waters, then they would’ve had to serve us while we sat. I will never go back again and I am always enthusiastic about supporting our local gems. Sadly because of one of the owners’ poor judgment in customer service, they lost two loyal customers today.

First timer today. I grabbed Bread Pudding and a Chocolate Hazelnut Tart.
Both were amazing.
One of those times I wish I didn’t find out about this place — I work nearby and will likely be returning any time I need something sweet.

I always enjoy coming here. I love the décor. It makes me feel like I am being transported back to a 1940’s Parisian café. Very classy. With that being said, there is no formal dress code. It has a very laid back and cozy atmosphere.
Today I had one of the sandwiches of the day — roasted pork with apple slaw on a toasted baguette and the swiss chard vegetable soup. The sandwich was delightful. Pork always pairs nicely with apple and the apple slaw made the sandwich with it’s crunchy texture and sweet and savory flavors. My only criticism is that the baguette wasn’t as soft as I would like it but that’s just my preference. The soup was hearty with lots of veggies, including chick peas. Perfect for a cold winter day. Next time I come back, I would like to make reservations for their high tea. I have heard great things about it. Until next time.

Great bakery, but a little over priced, They make delicious sandwiches and sweets. Staff is always helpful and friendly.

I keep going here for the bread, but ultimately end up with tarts and squares as well. Super rich. The treats, not me.. I am the opposite. Workout before you treat yourself. Your hips will thank me.
Everyone is super nice. It’s crazy humid/​hot. The carrot tulips are inexpensive and delicious. Get one with your country loaf. Fuck it, get two.
Protip: Closed Mondays. I know because I reef on the door every Monday because I’m a forgetful moron.

Walking down 104^th street, I notice the entry to this place and became interested. I walked down the stairs and the smell of freshly baked goods was amazing. There was so much to choose from and I jumped from display case to display case and became so indecisive. I decided to go with the butter tarts and the carrot cake both of which were extremely good. Personally, I think they have the best butter tarts in the city.

I probably left the Dauphine about 10 minutes ago. I ordered a café au lait and a raspberry buttercream cookie. To its credit, the cookie was awesome! However, I’m super disappointed with the café au lait. I’ve always known café au lait as coffee with steamed milk; however, upon first sip it was barely even warm. I open the lid and there’s nothing indicating the milk had been steamed. I was already on the train by the time I noticed this though, so I didn’t go back.
I wouldn’t go back for coffee… Would probably go back for a cookie. That’s a shame.

The breakfast was nice but the baked goods are pretty disappointing. I tried the baguette and it was just bad. It had no substance, neither the crust nor the inside. I tried the butter cream sandwich cookie and their butter cream is really just butter and sugar and made me feel a little gross. I love a good butter cream and theirs needs to be tempered a little more.

This spot is primarily know for its sweet treats and pastries.
As a suggestion from a co-​worker I actually went here for lunch to get a sandwich. She had told me the sammys were great and the bread was amzing.
I got the pork and coleslaw sandwich and I dont know if it was maybe because I went at about 1:30 or what but the bread was super super hard. On top of that it had WAY to much BBQ sauce and the coleslaw was basically a few pieces of slaw in a pool of mayo. It was not good and I felt really sick after actually.
I would try this again because I have heard such good things — perhaps I just got a rrare bad sandwich but be careful when trying out the lunch options

Average bakery, on par with the Cob’s Breads of this world. Unlike them, however, this place is seriously overpriced. Expect to pay roughly $ 5 for a baguette.

We came for lunch today and left satisfied. A delicious bowl of tomato pesto soup washed down a good quality egg salad sandwich. Good coffee (hard to find in this city) and a peanut buttercream cookie for dessert; delightful.
The service was slow, to be sure; however, the waitress was very patient with my kids and I, even pouring some milk into my daughter’s hot soup and stirring it for her while my hands were busy with the baby.
We’ll be back!

I think this is one of Edmonton’s hidden gems. I feel like it could be lined out the door like Duchess is, but I’m happy it’s not!
I come here for lunch when I want to treat myself. You used just to go up to the counter to order and then sit down, but it changed to sitting down, and someone coming to take your order. I have yet to see them excel at this system, as compared to when you just ordered then sat down. It can take a while for them to come take your order when you sit down at lunch time, but sometimes they are speedy. It is however quite a wait for the food to come, similar to what you’d expect a real restaurant. For some reason I don’t expect it to take as long here. But it does, and maybe that’s what others would expect. The servers are always very friendly.
The food is superb. I love their quiche, as well as the sandwiches. It’s pricey for sure, so it’s just a once in a while treat. The real star of the show though, IMO, is their tarts. You can TASTE the butter in the crust. Their crust is like shortbread. It’s truly amazing. The tarts here put Duchess to shame. And I love Duchess.
So if you have a bit of extra time, and room for some extra calories, check this place out for lunch, or just a treat.

It’s a bit ridiculous how I have walked past Dauphine at least a hundred times in the past and had never noticed it until after I flipped through this year’s Avenue Magazine’s best of Edmonton restaurant lists. Oh how I’ve been missing out until now!
The bakery itself is adorable and has a European feel to it. Since I was in a rush, I did not sit down to order, but I must put it on my list of things to do, to come and sit down for breakfast or lunch. I was helped almost immediately, and the sever was very pleasant.
I ordered a latte to go, and it was the perfect mix of milk and coffee. Same price as a Starbucks latte, and I feel much better about supporting a local business. The crème de la crème for me, however, were the lemon crème and raspberry crème cookies! I am experiencing a salivary reaction just thinking about them now. The cookies were fresh, buttery and the perfect mix of soft and crunchy; the fruit cremes were lick your fingers good– not too fruity, not too sweet.
I will definitely be back asap for more cookies, and to try their other confectionaries and breads! Two thumbs up for Dauphine and their baked goodies.

Yes! Yes! Yes! Amazing chocolate hazelnut tart! Oh… And the brownie! The best I have EVER tasted. Definitely worth the 10 block walk in –20 weather. The space is Charming, warm and smells oh-​so-​good!

I had never been to Dauphine before the other day, not even back in the days when it was Queen of Tarts. Not that I hadn’t heard wonderful things about the food but I had the bakery that I liked and tended not to stray from it. The other day I was in the area with a co-​worker on a quick work errand she said that we should stop so we could run in and buy some cookies for our team and when I told her I’d never been in she promptly shouted at me to stop the vehicle IMMEDIATELY and dragged me in by my collar.
Walking in down the stairs and seeing everything in white is so grand and European feeling, I love it. And the smell, ohmigod. Amazing, tantalizing, wonderful. It’s beautiful and much larger than it looks from the outside. All of the items were mouth watering and the florentine I had was delicious. We were there in the middle of the afternoon on a work day so it was fairly empty, as to be expected at 2:00 pm, though there were a few other customers.
The only thing that stopped me from giving full stars was the service (very nice but almost painfully slow) and the prices on some items, really rather expensive when compared to other bakeries with comparable product. I would definitely go back though, maybe once I try some other goodies the higher price will be justified.

Visiting Edmonton for the tattoo convention my friend and I decided to take a stroll and we stumbled up Dauphine.
We ordered lunch — I forget what they called it but it was basically a ham and cheese sand which. It was decent and we had the squash soup — also not bad.
The following day we were in the mood for a quick breakfast so we decided to give it another shot. It was familiar and we didn’t have to search for a new place.
Let me start by saying the bread was amazing.
But… the breakfast itself was horrible. Runny eggs with tomatoes on top… we were so surprised it came out this way AND it took over twenty minutes for it to arrive. We both couldn’t eat it… the waitress asked us how it was and I politely told her that it was pretty bad. We both had to get going at that time so we couldn’t take her up on the offer to make it again.
We were charged the full price and headed to the convention hungry.
It was a total bummer because the restaurant itself was cool, staff was nice and friendly and we had hoped to like it.
I hate leaving bad reviews but how do you screw up eggs?
