Dandy Salon and Spa

I have been seeing *someone* from Dandy for years now and I consistently have gotten a superior hair cut every single time. For the past year or two I’ve been seeing Mike and he has made this poor slob look better than ever. My wife and daughter are also clients of Mike and have both been equally 100% thrilled with his services and attention.
I also see the estheticians as required when my eyebrows go insane but I just take whomever is available based on my haircut appointments.
It is quite reasonable to say the prices are high here, but when you get a really great product and service, well, sometimes that’s how that happens. If you are on a budget you might feel a lot less enthusiastic than I do.
Also I totally love that they are centrally located for easy access, and have convenient (but not free) parking right in the same complex.

I took advantage of a facial promo Dandy salon had for October and I was so glad I did. Dandy Salon is just off whyte ave. Inside it has a cool modern vibe. I was greeted right away and offered a beverage. Good start!
The lady who did my facial was very thorough. She went over a questionnaire with me about my skin before hand and really made me feel at ease. The actual room was nice clean and had a great spa like feel. The facial was so relaxing I almost fell asleep. Except for the extractions which are never fun.
The best part was the estetician was hands on the whole time and did not leave me alone and instead while I was «processing» would do a hand massage ect. At the end she went over some basics of skin care and did a few recommendation. She did not push anything on me but gave me options. She also talked about how to incorporate things I was already using into a routine. It was awesome. Just a tip the parking is harder to acquire and can be costly if you are there for a while.

Soooo… I usually have very pleasant experiences here, but I’m sitting here with one eyebrow waxed further apart than the other eyebrow and now have to wait for it to grow back in. Grrr!
I didn’t complain to the aesthetician (although maybe I should have) because she can’t really add back the hair that she waxed… I just know not to ask for her anymore. I have had tons of successful brow waxes here, so I’ll be back.
I’ve probably been here at least 20 times for eyebrow waxes, and once or twice for haircuts, always on student discount Wednesdays (20%). The facility is nice and calm, clean, and they serve my fav Aveda tea while I wait. I wouldn’t pay full price, but it is worth it with the discount (of course, tipping on the original price is customary). I haven’t had to wait too long for services — maybe 15 – 20 minutes once, but they are usually roughly on time.
I’ve usually had good luck with aestheticians here who leave me with natural looking brows adjusted to my face shape — Teresa and Olivia come to mind — I now know to request them specifically!

My second haircut here, and I think that I’ll be coming back! Dandy is very beautiful, which will strike you as you come in. For those that go to University of Alberta or even take any form of public transport, it’s fairly close to Health Sciences LRT Station (8 minute walk or a 1 – 2 minute bus ride) and it’s on Whyte Ave. Taylor is fantastic at his craft and easy to talk to (or not talk to, if that’s your thing). I have long hair, so there’s not much to really do that’s dramatically visible, but yay for subtle touches to make it the hair ‘make sense’ overall. Note that my haircut was complimentary courtesy of the owner but this doesn’t influence my changed review. I’m very happy that a solution was offered to my previous negative experience and it just goes to show that Dandy takes care of both their online presence and their customers, which are hallmarks of a thriving young salon. First time I’ve been super happy with (not merely resigned to) a haircut! I definitely recommend booking a higher level stylist. Taylor is great!

I’ve been seeing Pam for my haircuts for years… I find the entire staff @ Dandy to very very friendly and helpful. Parking underground is also pretty awesome when it’s –30 outside. I used to go here before when it was Swizzlesticks, but, I have found the quality of both staff and service has gone up since it became Dandy. Would highly recommend!

okay so, i have been to dandy on more than one occasion, the first occasion i got my hair done the stylist was absoultely fab! she did a great job! i wanted to get my hair cut by the same stylist the next day but wasnt able to, so was booked in with a different stylist, i come to my appt, and while i am explaining what i want and asking what do u think works best etc?, the stylist is not even interested in my hair, and claims he is the co owner!!! to my surprise i was expecting something beautiful! instead walked out with a super cuts hair cut that cost me a much higher penny!!! it was just a daunting experience. i wouldnt go back to that stylist ever! dandy is a good salon? but the stylists are all so different i recommened getting a review from someone thats been there before that recommends a stylist, no point in paying so much if your not satisified at the end of the day! :)

This salon gets 4 stars for their massage service, friendly front desk and waxing ladies. It gets 3 stars for their hair service and hair pricing however. The prices are a little outrageous for hair service and my hair stylist, although very experienced was very grumpy and cold from the get go. I went back in a second time and she was grumpy that time as well. I am conflicted as to whether I will be continuing my hair appointments here, seeing the cost and lack of friendliness by my stylist. It’s a hard one because it was obviously just the one girl but I would now feel awkward going to the other girls in the same salon for hair.
My suggestion to the owner is to get the girls to offer a little more pampering of the hair guests and to up their cheeriness! I love the wandering poochie!

I came here twice for waxing, first time I had to wait about 20 minutes for an appointment, which may sound typical but I really hate not having an appointment start when it is intended to, especially when you’re paying for parking.
Regardless, I am pretty patient so I didn’t say anything, sh*t happens, right?
Second time same thing, about 20 minutes late, except they had told me my appt was at 5pm but when I got there they told me it was actually at 5:30…great… But I didn’t get in until close to 6pm, so an hour after the appointment they initially confirmed with me and almost half an hour after the appointment they had actually booked.
I didn’t say anything either time because there usually is no point, and honestly it just makes them look and sound unprofessional in front of the other clients in the reception area, which is their problem. Anyways, when I eventually got in on both times the esthetician was awesome and did a great job — I have no complaint with the actual services offered, just the front staff. So if you’re looking for a good waxing and don’t care how late your appointment is or if they screw up your appointment then you should come here.
On that note…
I will n-​e-​v-​e-​r come to this salon again. Last week I booked an appointment ‘via text’ for today at 6pm, I sent a quick text today to confirm (out of habit, and since they’ve gotten it wrong before) and low and behold they told me they had me in for next week, not today. *face palm*
The thing is I had «booked via text» and I was literally LOOKING at the previous text from their salon confirming I was in for 6pm today. After they replied saying they didn’t have me in for today I called and they basically said there was nothing they could do… What kind of customer service is that? What if I had driven there in this shitty weather? Regardless, after 1 late appointment, one appointment booked at the wrong time and one appointment booked on the completely wrong day (how did they manage that, why do you confirm a date and time with a client and then book them on a different date and time???), I decided to call it quits, the waxing services might be above-​average but I hate salons and spas that can’t figure out a competent booking system.
It’s a shame, their estheticians are all fantastic but I am not willing to put up with incompetent receptionists, or whoever books the appointments. And although it has never happened to me, I find it highly ironic that they charge cancellation fees (50% of the service fee) if you cancel within 48 hrs, what do I get when they miss MY appointment and don’t provide me with any notice, until I contact them? Nothing. Great job Dandy Salon, I applaud you.

I’ve been living in Edmonton for two years now, and have tried two other hair salons with Groupons. However, I keep going back to Dandy. It’s a welcoming environment, always looks clean, and the staff are always friendly.
I have had my hair done by four different stylists there (I’m not picky), and have liked every cut. I should say that I never go for anything dramatic — generally just a clean up, change in layers, a few inches off, or long bangs (well, only once — I’m far too low maintenance, haha!). But I’ve always left happy.
Each stylist I have been to has been easy going and attentively sat through my indecisive monologue about how maybe this time I’ll try something new — and each has offered suggestions and recommendations to help make the decision. I also like how the stylists do explain the products they are using, but aren’t pushy in selling me on them. Although I definitely went for the Aveda Phomollient Styling Foam on my last visit — life changing!
The only downfall is it’s a little pricey — there is a great discount for students on Wednesdays, but I’ve sadly entered the real world. Although the pre-​cut head massage helps to make up for it…

I have visited Dandy a couple times now and am thrilled I have found my new salon. I really love this place, it has a great relaxing atmosphere (no blaring house music, soothing Aveda scents, gorgeous décor). Those at the reception desk are warm & welcoming, and they have a great product selection including the Kevin Murphy line (a personal favourite, and tough to find)
I was on the hunt for a stylist, and my friend Holly recommended Taylor. I have since been to see him for a cut & style, then again for highlights, cut & color. I cannot say enough good things about him. Taylor is a consummate professional, he makes conversation to ensure you are comfortable, but without being overly chatty if you prefer to relax and sit quietly for your appointment. He is hands down the best stylist I’ve had, and when I get married next year, hes’s definitely on my «vendors to book» list.
During the wash you receive a decadent scalp massage, and they ensure you are enjoying your experience with offerings of magazines, drinks, extra towels for your face etc.
I will definitely be back to try out the spa side, for a facial or massage.

Had a Brazilian here this afternoon and it was easily my best waxing experience. The rooms are very private, and very clean without being ugly. The décor is beautiful. Downstairs you can have hair services done and upstairs for esthetics. My esthetician was clearly a seasoned professional, and the results show it. Very minimal bleeding and redness for my typically sensitive skin, and the price is right, I’ve had Brazilians from 60 to 110 in Edmonton and for $ 70 this service was a steal.

The best hair stylist in Edmonton is Jerica and Dandy salon is lucky enough to have her as an employee! She is so personable and does a great job! She will listen to what you want done and give you suggestions if your not sure! She does a great colour and doesnt leave your hair feeling dead. I highly recommend making a appointment with her! SHE IS SO GOOD!

I was really pleased with my visit to Dandy today. The staff were friendly and polite and my stylist Dominique was great, she listened to my concerns (the aftermath of a previous haircut from another salon) and she really took the time to fix my hair. She was careful and meticulous and did exactly what I wanted. I love my haircut! For the first time in a very long while I walked out of a salon without wanting a hat. Thank you Dominique!

I LOVE coming to Dandy for Spa services! I love that they have two different massage techniques available: deep tissue and cranial sacral massage. It’s truly amazing to experience both!
The best surprise is when I got the essential facial. Not only did I leave refreshed and with glowing skin, but I also receive a neck and should massage, AND a hand, arm, and foot massage… WHAT! So worth it to pamper yourself!
They also have express spa and salon services. There is no excuse to not treat yourself. Under 30 minutes under $ 30! Brilliant! My favourite is the glow facial!
Amazing, comfortable and friendly service and atmosphere, but wait! Did you know that they received the award for Edmonton’s BEST waxing services! Paula and the crew are amazing! I usually break out and so I have been doing threading but they did not seem work. And since have light eyebrows, I could never get a nice defined line. Paula waxed and shaped my eyebrows. Totally quick. I didn’t believe she was done! AND no breaking out. Paula does do threading as well for über sensitive skin. And apparently the BEST Brazilian in town! Oh ya!
Next time you need to pamper yourself or feel a little Dandy, you need to go here!

First of all, I’ve got to warn you that the prices here are crazy high and they tack on extras including styling! I was booked for a two hour appointment for highlights and a cut. The receptionist said this was the time they allotted for this type of appointment. Almost three hours later my hair was dyed but not cut because we didn’t have enough time. I was quoted $ 271.00 for a colour and cut. I should have ran but thought that with the extra 20% off for being a student would take off some of the cost. When I got to the counter they were going to charge me $ 208.00 just for the colour and some other extras including ‘styling’ which consisted of quickly blow drying my hair. I disputed the charges and the receptionists were snooty about it. They grabbed my stylist, Jerica, and she corrected the charges to include colour and $ 40.00 extra for styling. They were discussing all these add ons that they charge which I felt were absolutely ridiculous. I ended up paying $ 178.00 for a colour and quick frantic blow dry.
Overall, my hair is not what I expected. I left saying that it was good… but I truly just didn’t want to be any later for my next appt. After looking further, the highlights at the front don’t blend and it doesn’t look much different than when I came in. She didn’t use the correct strength of blond either so its much darker than it was supposed to be. Her solution was to come back one or two more times. Although Jerica was nice and personable, I feel that this place is out of the books for me. Still on the hunt for a fab salon!

I am extremely impressed with Dandy Salon and Spa. The lady that did my nails was absolutely fantastic! Usually when I have a living social deal I find that the people at the business don’t treat you as well, but this lady was outstanding. I have never felt better about my self! She kept complimenting me, and they were really sincere complements (I hope). The spa was really clean and they were timely if not early with everything. My only complaint is that the gel nail polish wasn’t done on my whole nail bed and it chipped off one nail after about a week. Other than that no complaints here, I would definitely recommend this place!

I’ve been coming to this Salon and Spa for a couple years, ever since my friend recommended it when I was desperately searching for a hair stylist I could be loyal to. My first couple of visits went alright, loved the haircuts and service from the lady I became I regular to, to me at the time it was worth the extremely high hair cut costs (average $ 80 for just a trim). Unfortunately, my hair stylists moved away and I went back to the salon a couple more times thinking that the other hair stylists were just as good. After about three visits, it was no longer worth the money to continue coming here for my salon needs. However, I did discover the spa section of the place and it is the new reason I continue to come in. In addition, I do enjoy the ambiance of the spa, the customer service is always friendly and polite here, they make you feel at home. They always have flexible schedule’s and will allow last minute bookings without any problems. Overall I continue to come here for the dependable and consistent customer service detail rather than the inconsistent quality of the services provided.

Went there for a massage appointment as I had a backache that I wanted to get rid of. The massage therapist at Dandy Salon and Spa suggested some alternative massage, which I accepted. I still expected to get a proper massage! But the therapist barely touched me and I noticed absolutely no improvement. Most of the time, I couldn’t even tell if he was doing anything!!! Felt like a complete waste of time. The therapist was nice though, and he may even be a good massage therapist if he actually gives you a massage and not the alternative treatment I got. Still, I’m not planning on going back to find out. As for the place itself, my impression was that the place is pretty pretentious.

I went to the Dandy Salon because of a Living Social hair-​cut and style promotion. The staff were all really friendly, and the atmosphere is quite nice. This may seem in contrast to the single star I have rated this salon, but please read on. The haircut portion of my services could be called non-​existent, as she barely trimmed my bangs. The biggest problem is in that I booked additional services, and had my hair coloured. Instead of the 3 ½ hours estimated (which is already high), it took 6 hours… There was no reason to bleach all of my hair when 90% of it was perfect. I missed the cocktail event I was going to, and now my hair is like straw. My hair length is mid-​way down my back, but I am considering a pixie cut because I’m not sure it will recover. It’s two days later, and the colour (which looked very nice the day it was done) is already fading. To say I am disappointed is a bit of an understatement, and I will return (though somewhat ashamedly) to my regular hair dresser never to stray again. ** two weeks later, hair is still in poor condition, in fact it’s falling out, and as expected, the colour has faded to a light tinny brown. It was supposed to be a dark burgundy-​close-​to-​black.
I will note that I did enjoy a lovely manicure. As I mentioned, I’m typing this review two days later; as of now my nails are still unchipped, and beautifully sculpted. They really made an effort to make the manicure a luxurious and special experience.

I recently had a relatively intensive service completed at Dandy Salon. I started out with dyed black hair and ended up with chocolate brown with beautiful two toned highlights. Who is responsible for my incredible color job? Brianne. She’s a self-​proclaimed perfectionist, who actually lives up to her name.
The process took a while, about 6 hours in total, but that is to be expected when you get your black stripped out without using bleach, dyed chocolate brown, bang trim, highlights put in, toner and style.
If you’re looking for someone trustworthy with your hair color… Brianne is the girl to ask for. I had a great time with her. Overall, the experience was great.
A few things I wasn’t super happy about was after spending over $ 300 to have this process done, they still tacked on the $ 1 they put in the meter for me… I thought this was a little tacky and unnecessary that they couldn’t absorb $ 1 vs. the $ 300 + I was spending.
Not that it made a huge difference in the price; it was simply the principle of the matter, for me.
