Breath For Life

If you are considering getting First Aid certification, I highly recommend going with Breath for Life. I needed certification when I was working in childcare, and I didn’t regret going with this provider.
They are an authorized provider of the Canadian Red Cross, which means their courses are based on the Red Cross program. They’re also based in Northern and Central Alberta, so you’d be choosing a locally-​based (well, kind of local) group.
I went with Breath for Life because they offered the lowest rate for certification, as opposed to competitors like St. John’s. I didn’t like that the courses lasted an entire weekend, both Saturday and Sunday, from 7:45am to 4:30pm. I was pretty grumpy both mornings, angry that my whole weekend was being taken away and that I needed to get up super-​early to do it. Actually, I had to get up a little earlier as the location of the course was all the way on the north side of town, which is across town for me. Unfortunately, most first aid courses have a similar schedule, so that you’re educated and certified and good to go asap.
On the bright side, the instructors were really quick, and let our class out early on both days. They taught us at a level we could understand, didn’t go too quickly, answered any questions we had, and stressed what would be on the test so we could remember. There were breaks and a lunch break in the afternoon for both days. I sat down and had lunch with one of the instructors on the last day, and we chatted about ourselves and the course. The course consisted of some lecture, and some hands-​on situational stuff with the dummies. A written test was given on the last day, but we were able to work in groups so there was no stress. We were able to keep our first aid booklets with us after we left, which is great because you never know when it will come in handy.
So think about going with them if you’re thinking about becoming a First Aider, or need to get recertified. They also sell first aid kits and supplies, if you already know your stuff and just need the tools.
