Eating dinner at this restaurant was the low point of a recent weekend in Dartmouth. Here are some issues we had: 1. One person on my party ordered salad but had to send it back because the lettuce was full of grit. 2. My beef ribs were just barely warm. 3. Although there were only about 4 parties when we walked in, almost every table in the restaurant was covered in dirty dishes. 4. Extremely limited bar selections. 5. The food we had that wasn’t poorly prepared was mediocre at best. The waitress was perfectly nice, and if you are staying at the Hampton Inn it’s a quick walk. But those two pluses are not enough, especially with other dining choices in the same plaza.

Had a great lunch there today. Great service and I was very happy with the food. I had the signature ribs and it was so refreshing to not have ribs that were put in a steamer to cook and then painted with Bbq sauce to make them a goopy mess after steaming. These were nicely smoked and then grilled with sauce on so it had a chance to caramelize. Others with ribs on their menus could take a lesson. The fries, cornbread and side salads were also just right. This is my first review and the great value I experienced there made me decide to finally sign up.

Tried to have dinner there tonight. We were seated right away but waited 15 minutes without so much as a glass of water before we decided to leave. It was fairly busy there but lots of empty tables and staff definitely saw us. Bummer of a first time experience!

Had a great time at Woody’s for my birthday last month. Service was extremely helpful and prompt and the owner was very nice. Great atmosphere and very tasty food. Wife and I ordered Family meal for two and was totally satisfied and even had enough leftover for lunch the next day. I am taking a group of co-workers to their wing night tonight at the new Bedford location.

We heard that the ‘all meat smoked’ restaurant was an epic restaurant to compete with any and all restaurants that serve dinner quality meals. We were not satisfied! Waitress forgot multiple items that we ordered, quality was sub-par and saying it was kid friendly was proven to be not accurate when simple veggies took over 20 mins. Owner visiting tables was a very nice and classy touch, but simple coupon for free appetizer next visit did not make up for entire plate not edible. Sauce was not correct on second plate of wings either(other plate ordered) and salad completely forgotten for this order. We will potentially give another attempt because their reputation was so high! Not satisfied with our first visit though!

When I first saw this place, I got really excited. With the closure of Q(SOB!), the options for barbecue in this city were getting limited. Sadly, as soon as my man and I stepped into the doors, that familiar alarm bell began blaring in my head: Chain, Chain, Chain! Yep, this is another one of those big American chains that are sneaking across our borders all of a sudden. Call me when we have an In-and-Out, but otherwise don’t bother. I’d be much more happy for a local BBQ joint, but we decided to stay and give them a try anyway. I hope you like tin signs talkin’ about BBQ, because that’s pretty much all the décor has to offer. The booths are pretty comfy though. The service was nothing special, and we waited far too long for our final bill, especially considering there were so few tables to serve when we were there. Totally a personal pet peeve, that’s for sure. I We decided to order a family feast for two in order to sample a little of everything. We chose our extra two sides and we were served unbelievably quickly. When your meal comes to you at lightening speed, do you automatically assume«microwave»? Or am I the only one who does this? The ribs were actually pretty good, but I prefer ribs to be chewy and a little dryer than some others might. They are most certainly NOT the«world’s best ribs» as Woody’s would have you believe, but they’re not terrible. I’ve had way worse, but I’ve also had better. The chicken was really nice, if under-seasoned. We suspected this was so you could get more out of the tableside sauces, which is actually a good call. The sweet sauce is the best one, by the way. I didn’t like the brisket, but I never do. Freigh(my man, for those who have not met him yet) thought it was really good though, and was pleased to have it all to himself. He did NOT enjoy having to share the baked beans with me, however, as they were delicious! Baked Beans here are usually sweet, but these were savoury and awesome. I would order them again, for sure. The veggies of the day were carrot rounds, but they weren’t mushy so two thumbs up. And the coleslaw was crisp and fresh, not drowned with sauce in the slightest. They also have an excellent corn bread, which is easily the best part of any BBQ meal for me. On the whole, Woody’s does provide some needed variety in Dartmouth Crossing, which is nice to see. You could do worse if you end up here, and I feel the need for more of that sauce will send me back again eventually. It’s nice to know there are chains out there that have food worth eating.

BBQ? Summer? Why… this just seems to be the perfect combination! I came here with my family prior to a day of shopping. We ordered the Corn Nuggets as a beginner, to get the juices flowing for our busy day ahead. I’ll admit, everyone at the table was pretty concerned about this dish but it turned out to be a pretty good flavour. It went downhill from there. My aunt ordered the«Best in Town Ribs». First of all, the meat was that she was about to pick off was maybe enough to feed a small animal. Secondly, the ribs looked pretty burnt on the outside but I figured, hey, sometimes the sauce burns. Nope. When my aunt offered me some of her ribs, I couldn’t eat it. It was burnt, chewy and expensive for what she got. I ordered a wrap, it was alright. Nothing to jump through fire for. Everyone at the table seem to be rather hungry after their meal.

My first visit to Woody’s proved successful overall! My daughter ordered the catfish and ate every bite. I would recommend to management that they add fish to the children’s menu as there is none. My husband had the ribs, and they were delicious. They fell off the bone. The corn on the cob side was delicious. I ordered the burger, which was not as enjoyable, but it was very tasty. I found the meat was tough, but that might be from the cooking process. I loved that it was garnished with a couple of onion rings. Actually I really enjoyed that about all our meals — there were several garnishments to try. We ate every bite, even though our bellies had long indicated they were full. We will be back!

So, walking into Woody’s I was unsure of what to expect. I’m a fancy type of diner and this place is really not somewhere where I would see myself a regular. That being said I was extremely impressed. The bf and I had Caesers to drink which were delightful. I had the BBQ style one with BBQ sauce in the drink and Steak Spice on the rim. I had the sloppy woody(yes, I did laugh at the name) burger, which was practically a pulled pork sloppy Joe and it was great. You have two options of sides to choose from, I opted for corn on the cob and mac n’ cheese. The corn was good, the mac n cheese could have used something extra. This is not a fancy place by any means which is highly reflective in the décor. That being said, I ALWAYS enjoy reading those aluminum signs that belong in someones garage. All-in-all I will return to Woody’s BBQ; the food was good and reasonably priced and service was friendly

I had such high hopes for this BBQ joint hitting Dartmouth. Chains don’t always have to be bad, because they often have a chance to really perfect what customers enjoy. In this case, this franchise just brings the worst out of being part of a chain, from poor quality food to terrible service. We came here as a larger group for a birthday dinner. Our waitress seemed frazzled and overwhelmed from the beginning. My boyfriend had ordered a draft of Keiths, and she brought over a draft of Coors. When he pointed it out that he got the wrong beer, she said, «No, you ordered a Keiths.» even though three of us had clearly heard him order otherwise and said so. She shrugged and walked away without offering to bring the right drink order. I had also ordered a loaded baked potato, and even triple checked with her to make sure that was what I ordered, yet got a bowl of mash instead. Several of us at our table had our orders mixed up, or part of our order forgotten. Maybe if the food had been better, it could have redeemed it. Alas, my chicken was both overcooked, rubbery, and tasted like soap. The mashed potatoes were cold, both lumpy and grainy, and oversalted. However, the baked beans were excellent, the onion rings deliciously crispy, and the gravy was dark and flavourful. I was told, though, that the burgers were overcooked and dry. The décor is great, and keeps guests entertained with their walls full of rustic signs of quirky quips, tables boasting tasty sauces and rolls of papertowels right at the table to sop up the mess, but it definitely wasn’t enough to distract from the food and service.

My first and only(so far) visit to Woody’s wasn’t a great one. The idea of eating with my friend was lovely, and the food was great. My only real complaint was the portion of food me and my friend got for the price they were was really disappointing. I got the sloppy woody and she got the pulled pork. It was delicious just not how much we expected for the price. Maybe it was for the dishes we ordered. But if I do return and the portions are disappointing again I will not return for sure.

Popped in to Woody’s recently for a lunch bite with a friend of mine. She’s been a few times and is a fan. This was my first visit. When we arrived the place was pretty much empty, but seemed to fill quite quickly. Our server was efficient, pleasant, friendly and helpful– all things you want in a server. We both ordered pulled pork sandwiches. Her the Sloppy Woody(I know, we snickered over the name too) with fries and me the Carolina Pulled Pork which gave me the option to pick my own sauce or combination thereof with rings. The food arrived quickly, which baffles me until i remember mostly everything is smoked so its just a matter of prepping sides and reheating the mains. She quite enjoyed her sandwich. Found it to be tasty and just saucy enough. I tasted mine before hitting it with sauces and found the meat to be very moist and tender, which is rare for pork. I was hoping the tangy mustard would be a winner but it wasn’t. I then went for the southern sweet which wasn’t quite a hit either. So when all else fails load the sandwich up with both of them and hope for the best. It didn’t quite have the outcome I had hoped but it was still good enough to eat! My onion rings were super yum! They were MASSIVE and well prepared: just enough crispy coating, soft but still slightly firm onion(no mushy over done onions here)…they were delicious. I even commented that I’d come back if for no other reason than to eat plate after plate of the rings! So, this seems to be decent review, so why only 3 stars? They get a solid 3 stars for now as this was my first visit. They didn’t blow my socks off but they impressed me enough to want to go back. If other visits go well or better this shall be updated. Promise!

Had some«bid-ness» to do in Burnside one a dreary monday and decided to give this spot a try well after the lunch crowd left. The place is fairly large, I opted to sit at the bar and stare at the big screen. Beverages are pretty basic; Coke & Coors products. Trying to de-code the menu, but just chose one of their lunch wraps(pork) with mac chesse & beans as sides(i dunno what I was thinking). The order came back to me very quick like within 5 minutes. The next step was to figure out what kind of sauce to use. Meh… lets try all of them. They all seemed watered down to me, but not bad. The wrap was still good and the sides ended up being pretty decent. After I was done, I was satisfied. Service was great, being close to the bar helped. Final bill was average for lunch & drink in Dartmouth Crossing. If you are debating between Montana’s or Woody’s — give this place a try.

I have been to Woodys four times now, and every time its been amazing! To start off, the Deep Fried Dill Pickles are the perfect thing to start your meal with. They are not only crispy, they have a thin layer of breading, so its not an over load of bread. The taste is, mouthwatering and the dip is a perfect match. I always get the St. Louis ribs when i go, with sweet potato fires and either beans or a ceaser salad. The Ribs, are perfectly bbq’d and have a amazing sweet flavor on them. Maybe the best ribs ive had? The number of different sides they have is perfect for any picky person. The beans have an amazing homemade flavor to them. All i can say is i will be returning, and i completely recommend you to follow suit! Won’t be disappointed!

All these negative reviews on here are ridiculous… I have nothing but very kind words about this place. These people don’t get good BBQ… and how should they… They live in Darthmouth. Ok. To start… I’m originally from Alabama. The quality and taste of Woody’s food, brought me back home. And once I finally lifted my face up from the plate… I realized I was in the middle of freaking Nova Scotia still… I had first ordered the hotwings for an app and then the brisket/ribs/combo with mac n cheese, and crap… I don’t even remember… These hotwings came out, and i popped one in my mouth, and was initially weirded out by the texture of my wings only because I’ve had wings many different ways… but these wings had been smoked!!! SMOKEDHOTWINGS… BRILLIANT. The taste was delicious, but the softness of the meat from the smoking… heaven… freaking heaven… My food came out, and so did a plethora of BBQ sauces(including a mop sauce for the St. Louis style ribs), and if anyone knows me… I love Love LOVE sauces… And they were all equally good for your different palate. I had no favorite. Brisket… tender. Delicious. Ribs… tender. Delicious. Mac n Cheese… TENDER. DELICIOUS The only… and literal ONLYTHING I hated was the fact there were no collard greens that day. Other things: Service was good. So much in fact that any more, and I would’ve been annoyed with how much attention I was getting. And it was a busy day. Also, they have a Build-Your-Own burger menu. You can’t go wrong with that. Look… I was skeptical. I mean… How could a Canadian match up his BBQ to Southern style cooking? Who knew. I am A believer! OHCANADA

I visited Woody’s for the first time recently and have to say that I really wasn’t impressed. The service was perfectly fine and the interior looked clean and well-kept. But the food was just not that great. I ordered a BBQ chicken sandwich with gravy and, on the recommendation of one of my dining partners, a side of fried corn. The sandwich itself was OK, but nothing particularly special(and there were a few gristle-y chicken pieces that were just awful) and I have no idea what I could have possibly done to my friend that would make her recommend the fried corn. Did I try to murder her in a past life? The corn was just gross. Bland, soft and just not appetizing in the least. I also sampled some fries that a less-evil friend had ordered, but had to agree with her that they were truly bad fries.(Though she did encourage me to try these awful fries, so maybe she’s actually also evil.) All in all, I don’t think I’ll be back — there are plenty of other better options in this area.

Popped in on a lunch break for a beer and a pulled pork sandwich. Since I was alone I just sat up at the bar. It wasn’t to busy so service was good, the sandwich was tasty and ample and the beer was cold. The only hitch is that there seems to be a bottleneck in paying. Nothing special but good food.

I went to Woodys the other night for dinner with my parents, and we all enjoyed our meals. My initial reaction when walking in the door was the place was clean, bright and the place smelled really good(how could it not)! We were greeted promptly and with a friendly smile. Our waiter(Dan) was fantastic and was honest about our menu selections. He was super friendly and very prompt when we asked for something(drink refill). I had the shrimp(wow…very filling) with the Okra(wish it had been plain and not in a type of tomato stew) and green beans. For dessert my parents and I split the banana pudding(it’s not that big, but after the meal serving sizes splitting it three ways was the only way to go)! The banana pudding was delish. Overall the experience was great and I think it’s a place we will visit again(although it won’t be a habit as for three of us to eat, only 2 alcoholic beverages purchased, and splitting dessert the meal was over $ 70).

I’ve had one check in here. and it was based on the existing reviews. And after going I’m convinced the previous reviewers have never been to a true south western BBQ. I realize this place started in Florida but I expected atleast some ambiance toss to the orgions of the BBQ… the place looks like they took over a closed clothing store and threw in some cheap tables. Ok down sides apart the food was very good. we all had the ribs and they were very tastey. BUT… for 19,99 for a half rack which is about the size of normal ¼ rack you can go to the Old Port and get a full rack or a half rack + ½ chicken. so for the brief taste we got it was good. would I recommend it to anyone No. would I go again No. It’s BBQ meets Miami Vice with tapas portions and Miami prices. I dont suspect it will last long in the Halifax area. OH. must stay the staff was very cute and friendly.

2 things to point out 1 — this would not be a place I would typically go, but went with my office for lunch. 2 — we went on opening day, and because I know there can be kinks to work out, I’m giving them a star more than if they had been open for a while. The restaurant like most in the shops area of the Crossing is long, tall and narrow. I didn’t like the décor at all, full of hokey signs that only go halfway up the walls, and there are 4 giant tvs in the place — is this a sports bar? Service was friendly and fast to greet us but when we ordered we are assured our meals would be fast, but we probably waited about 35 minutes after we ordered. I had the ¼ chicken(since I don’t eat pork or beef) which was ok. It came with fries that were bland and had no color. No coleslaw for any of the meals. It does come with cornbread — which was more of a corn cake, it was like having dessert, very sweet and was undercooked. The food is done Carolina style with a choice of sauces at the table. I forget what the one I liked was called, but it was a thinner, vinegar based sauce which was pretty good. All in all, this will not be a go-to restaurant for me. That being said some of my coworkers who ordered the sandwiches were pretty happy.
