Target

I have no comments to make on the target merchandising, price point, etc, but I will say that my experience using their pharmacy has been fantastic. Service was quick, and the pharmacist was very personable, patient and incredibly knowledgeable. It’s a nice change to actually have someone sit down and talk though your medications with you instead of toss your meds at you from across the counter and send you on your way. I highly recommend to anyone looking for a pharmacy in the Dartmouth area!

My review is mostly to do with the starbucks in the target store. You cannot use your starbucks card or collect star points at this location. It seems to be owned by target? So regular starbucks pratices do not apply?

I was pleasantly surprised when I first visited Target in Bayers Lake. This location is a different beast, unfortunately.
The main problem is the awful layout. On the bottom level (ground floor of the mall), there are no cashes near the mall entrance. If you want to buy something on this level, you must go aaaallll the way to the «back,» where the outside entrance is. This is convenient only if you’re parked near the entrance and are actually done shopping. So in order to pay you must go through the entire store, then all the way back out into the mall again.
On the upper level, there are cashes by the mall entrance. Yay! But only after 12 p.m. Boo! I asked a clerk if she could ring us through, but she informed us only the self-​serve checkouts are open on this level in the mornings. How’s that for customer service? At least one of the self-​serves is debit or credit only, no cash. Not sure if they all have that rule.
Another big layout problem? The groceries are upstairs. The personal care (toothpaste, hair products etc) are downstairs. Looking for a carton of milk and maybe some tampons? Sorry, they’re on two separate levels. Incredibly inconvenient.
And about that lack of human cashiers before noon? There was only one working downstairs that morning, even though the line was at least six people long and there were many staff members on the floor. The one poor cashier was working as quickly as she could with no help. When we left after 12 p.m. two more cashes had been opened. I guess noon is the magic hour.
On a positive note, my toothpaste is cheaper here than anywhere else in HRM. So there’s that.

Just wanted to add a little update, they got in Silk soy and almond milk in the refrigerators now. Thank you Target, that just made you gain some points in my book. :)

My thoughts as I approached the Target store yesterday evening on opening day: «oh this is a nice entrance!» … my thoughts as I have entered and begin browsing: «well this is not what I expected, this stuff is expensive!»
To break it down, Target is more expensive than both Wal-​mart and Zellers, but slightly cheaper than Winners (at least from what I looked at while there). Its appearance/​layout was very similar to Zellers as well. My friend and I did a sweep around both levels and noticed no specials (shocking for opening day/​week) and what appeared to be on sale was either sold out, or was not much of a sale. The «grocery» section was relatively compact; they also have their own «no name» brand like other big box stores.
What I did find neat was the escalator’s because in addition to the normal escalator, there are two that take your carts upstairs for you. They also have a starbucks on the main level behind the cash registers.
I did not buy anything, so I cannot review the customer service at this point. However, I did notice an employee happily helping everyone use the cart escalator.
I am not sure what the big deal is about Target, people had carts full of items and I thought whether they realize what they are buying can be bought less expensive elsewhere? maybe they just assumed everything was cheaper in price because of the hype leading up to Target coming to Canada (that it is inexpensive).
So will I shop here? No, I will not, unless they have a mind blowing sale.
