Tandori

My experience at Tandori was my first and last, sadly. I had very high hopes that this place would be a gem, however I was wrong. I have encountered a few bad curries in my day but this fast food curry just took first place on my list of bad curries.
I will first start off by saying I only ordered the vegetarian option so I can’t speak for the other curries. I ordered the vegetarian curry and the chana masala. First impression was shock as to how watery the curries looked, this was a bad start. My first bite was very bad, it tasted worse than it looked. The only flavour I could pick out was the slightest bit of tomato mixed with the overpowering taste of water. There was a real lack of any seasoning, no curry spices at all. Not even salt. The vegetarian curry wasn’t as watery but it was just as bland. That said, the vegetables in the vegetarian curry were over cooked. On the bright side the rice was fine.
It behooves me to give a bad review but sadly the food was below par by far. The staff were nice and seeing as this is a chain, hopefully it was an isolated incident at this location.

I walked in the first set of doors by the food court and could smell all the spices and I walked straight to Tandori. I wasn’t even hungry but couldn’t resist buying something. I had the butter chicken which was so good. I highly recommend Tandori and I can’t wait to go back and try one of their many other dishes.

Buoyed by intense cravings for Indian cuisine by a recent Groupon promotion, I was thrilled to find out a new fast food style Indian place had just opened at Coquitlam Center’s food court. Now, I don’t blame you for rolling your eyes at my review, because who really expects great things from a food court chain? I know I wasn’t, but I at least expected the food to be decent. Unfortunately for me, it was grossly inedible.
I just spent $ 16 on a two curry combo plate (a paltry serving of butter chicken, paneer and spinach, potatoes and basmati rice) and a side of tandoori chicken (which as an extra order was basically about $ 5.95 for literally a piece of leg/​thigh). Very pricy for food court nosh! The butter chicken is disgustingly salty and highly inedible. The paneer and spinach, which I initially thought would be curry (since it is a «two curry» combo) was literally cubes of paneer cheese with stale tasting, wilted spinach dumped on top. I mentioned the ghastly appearance of the paneer spinach «curry» but the very friendly server assured me that Indian food looks like that but it tastes «really good». Well, let me tell ya, I have been to some amazing Indian restaurants in my lifetime so I do know Indian food. I guess I should have listened to my intuition.
If you refer to my other reviews, it is unusual for me to lambast any of my dining experiences. However, this was so horrible for both price and taste that I felt others should be warned. Never again am I wasting money at this food court chain, and my god, they just opened!
