I had a hot pot with tofu and kimchi and it was awesome. The service was good and they were even kind enough to offer us more food.

Pricey. Small portion for its price. There are better Korean restaurants in the area that offers better dishes and value for money.

Wicked fast food… I ordered galbi(beef short ribs) and they were the best I have ever had! Service was kind and quick as well. I will be back!

We have passed by this restaurant many times as it is always full. We think it must be good and no doubt it is not disappointed. We stopped by for lunch and ordered regular Korean dishes like tofu hot pot, pancake, beef short ribs and bimbipo. The food is good and quite authentic. Definitely we will go back and try other hot pots.

First time trying Korean BBQ. The ambience isn’t the nicest. The service is friendly but we didn’t enjoy our meals we also didn’t know what we were ordering. Prices are extremely high and the food wasn’t to our liking. Could have been what we ordered but we won’t be returning.

Jeong Ga Nae is a Korean restaurant located in the complex right by Coquitlam Centre Mall. It’s not exactly the easiest place to spot but you should definitely check it out if you’re in the area. It’s a good place to go to for solid Korean food — hot soups, BBQ, and more. :) We ordered the Grilled Mackerel and this was sooo good. The fish was perfectly cooked. They made the skin very crispy, while keeping the inside of the fish moist and flaky. The mackerel wasn’t fishy and it had a light, smoky flavour. Absolutely delish and the best dish we had tonight. :D The mackerel we ordered also came with a Soybean Soup. It had a much stronger flavour compared to the beef soup we ordered, but it wasn’t too salty. This one was bubbling hot too when it came out. I thought their Bulgogi was good, but not great. It was a bit too salty and oily for my liking. Lastly, we had their Spicy Tofu Soup. It was actually quite spicy but really good! Thankfully, we all shared so I didn’t have to finish this all by myself. I think my tongue would’ve been burning by the time I drank all of it. XD Overall, we were really happy with our experience here. I had been here a few times before and at the time, I didn’t really think there was anything outstanding. However, this visit was the best one so far. The grilled mackerel was awesome and made everything so much better. I’ll be back for some more of that! Jeong Ga Nae Coquitlam is one of my favorite local Korean restaurants. It is located inside the same strip mall as Nagano and across from Coquitlam Centre and Delicious Phở. This tiny Korean restaurant is busy and filled with local Koreans. Jeong Ga Nae is clean and service is friendly. There is a good selection of traditional dishes, meal combos and BBQs. We like coming here for our fix of gamjatang(spicy pork bone soup). $ 30 for a hotpot fit for two. Complete with multigrain rice and Korean banchans — side dishes of radish, fish cakes, sprouts… Kimchi is a side order. So is pa muchim. Spicy pork bone soup(gamjatang): big hot pot filled with pork bone obviously, potatoes, carrots, zuchinnis and spices. Spicy but not overwhelming. Stir fry beef: good flavors and served on a hot plate with rice Japchae: potato starch noodles with beef isn’t too oily and good portioned. Everything on the menu is pretty good. But to be honest, we usually just order the gamjatang and call it a night. On a really good night, there is leftovers for lunch the next day too!

The owner, Sarah, works hard and always takes good care of us. I’d recommend the Pork Bone Soup in individual stone bowls because it’s easier to share. Their seafood pancake, bibimbap and LA style ribs area also very good. A nice little surprise is the fish cake side dish that they only serve in the restaurant. My friends and I always go through those quickly. Unfortunately, they are not available for take out.

It’s a nice little Korean place. Definitely recommended, but only thing here is the BBQ’ed beef short ribs are expensive for the portions that you get. But otherwise the other items where you get meat + rice or Jap Che + rice are terrific. It’s a shame I can’t award this place 3.5 stars. It’s not quite a 4, but deserves better than a 3.

My family and I can safely say that we’re regulars at Jeong Ga Nae. The owner knows us well. When my mom was visiting me in Montréal, my dad came here alone one day to eat and drink and be merry(he rarely ever goes to restos alone). We’ve had family reunions here too. I love this place so much that I invited my everything-Korean-obsessed Chinese friend to dine with me here before we both went back to Montréal for school(I’ve graduated now). During my university years, every time I was back in Coquitlam for the holidays and summer breaks, I’d always end up dining here somehow. The staff here can always whip up something to satisfy my untamable Korean food cravings. My most favourite Korean dish of all time is Gam Ja Tang, and Jeong Ga Nae makes it better than anywhere else(to the best of my knowledge). To simply say that Gam Ja Tang is a pork bone soup is misleading because the actual Korean name places the potato as the centerpiece of this dish. Although pork bone is no doubt a key ingredient, and served in equal quantity as potatoes, Gam Ja Tang translates directly to Potato Soup. The meat here comes off the bone with just one light tug with chopsticks. That’s how soft it is! Oh, and there’s just the right amount of spices! Yum! When I’m not very strongly inclined to have Gam Ja Tang, a situation I would allocate to about 10% of the visits here, I choose from these dishes: L.A. Galbi, Kal Guk Soo, and Dae Ji Guk Bap. By the way, my mom tells me that Dae Ji Guk Bap is the most popular dish there. Maybe that’s why it’s listed as the first menu item. So if you’re a Korean cuisine amateur trying out Jeong Ga Nae for the first time, I recommend Dae Ji Guk Bap. Kal Guk Soo is noodle heaven. A must-try as well. It’s healthy too. Well, everything there is healthy. The interior isn’t fancy/upscale by any means, but it’s homey and cute. Last time I came here I noticed they strung together green soju bottle caps to make window hangings. You know the toy called Barrel of Monkeys? Yup, they put together the bottle caps like you would with the red plastic monkeys. I spent a good couple minutes looking at those window hangings.

When in Coquitlam, one shall not leave without having some Korean food. We were attempting to go for Japanese food at a small strip mall right behind Coquitlam Center. Upon parking, I spotted this place at the corner, so we forfeited Japanese for Korean. It was quite busy for a Saturday at 1pm. It’s a small space. There’s BBQs set up at each table, and there were a lot of Koreans eating there. Always a good sign for authenticity. Their lunch menu has a good selection of items– stews, noodles, rice. We got a kimchi stew and a cold noodle. Banchan consisted of radish in kimchi, a pickled radish in vinegar and chili, and a sweeter fish cake slices. Food arrived promptly, and the kimchi stew was boiling hot in a large bowl. It also came with a side of wild rice. The cold noodle was presented nicely, finished with a hard boiled egg on top. Everything was tasty. The kimchi stew had pork in it, as well as cabbage, and tofu. The soup had hints of garlic and chili. The more you eat, the better tasting it becomes. It was a great complement to the rice. The cold noodles were extra refreshing on a hot day. The noodles were thin, and it was a potato starch based noodle. It had a lot of vegetables. There’s chili sauce placed in it, so as you eat, it gets spicier. You also get bottles of vinegar and mustard to add as you please. Service was good, the barley tea was always refilled. The server was patient when we had questions to ask on the menu. Everything was cooked to order. We also saw some large shareable stews which looked good. It was one satisfying meal, and I’ll definitely be back! 19⁄100; The Unilocal 100 Challenge
