i found this one place on Unilocal and they were absolutely great. my car kept stalling and came here because the reviews were great and i was very close by snd kinda stuck… and now i know why they had so many great reviews. Even though they were very busy they checked my car out and didnt charge me. the catillac converter was plugged up and they suggested i take it down the road to a friends muffler shop. they could have overcharged me for a part i didnt née and i wouldnt have known any different, but instead they called ahead to the muffler guy they knew down the road because it would be cheaper. he took it out in an hour. i will be back to get my car fixed here. I am impressed!

I’ve heard alot of good things from the reviews below, problem is I can’t confirm the quality of service as I actually have yet to have my vehicle in for service due to how busy they are. So I’ll give them a 5* based on my initial contact with Janet and their customer service. She offers great customer service, seems genuine and is helpful.
When my vehicle does get repaired, I’ll update and revise my comments accordingly.

Finally got an appointment and brought my vehicle in. They had an unexpected client show up because they were confused about their appoint. Non the less, Janet was very accomodating to the customers. They test drove my vehicle and recognized the symptoms right away. They said it was going to take a couple hrs to have the parts ordered and delivered, then ½ hr to install. We had been there alittle longer than expected and I think Janet knew that so she offered to drive to the parts dealer to pick up the parts (likely saved us 1.5hrs). She didn’t have to and I felt she went above and beyond. Also the mechanic offered helpful tips to prolong the maintenance of the repairs we had done.
So yeah, I’m sticking with my 5 stars. Unfortunately for us, now our other vehicle needs servicing. Fortunately for us we may have found a new mechanic shop that gives us the sense of honesty which is I feel is important in this industry.

My car itself was working as fine for the areas that they repaired (breaks). It’s a 1998 Honda CRV so you can only expect so much.
We took it in for servicing again (engine) and also my partner’s 2005 Chevy Silverado. The prices were again fair. They weren’t exactly as quoted, in fact they were LESS THAN QUOTED. I wouldn’t expect that to be always the case as maybe sometimes there would be surprises to the mechanics after they start taking things apart. But it does make me feel that they were charging me the actual cost of the work they were doing.
I’m happy to know a place I would return to, although I’m not so happy that my car needs work, but I know I have an old car. It’s just a lot nicer to not be so stressed out about whether I’ll be swindled at some random place to get my car fixed.
They do seem a little like an ol’ fashion shop with honest service with honest people. So ol’ fashion that they don’t have an answering machine. Do try to call them during their office hours so you can check that they are available to work on your car the day you plan to bring it in and to check if they are open (they do take vacations like normal people).

Honest, reliable. Pleasure doing business here. It’s hard to find a good mechanic. Look no further. The scary pet parrot is a nice touch too :)

Even though he didn’t take my car in for repairs, he was super helpful in telling me
about another shop down the road that would be better qualified to fix German cars.

Much respected and appreciated

I’ve been looking for an honest, friendly and efficient mechanic for a long time. I went by other Unilocal reviews and was not disappointed. I came a few months ago with a problem in my car — Ian and crew checked it out and said it wasn’t a «dire» problem that needed to be fixed. They told me what it was and gave me the option. THey even topped up the oil in my car and sent me on my way — no charge. This week I took my car in b/​c of other problems and they once again just diagnosed it and left it to me as to whether I wanted to pay for repairs (as it wasn’t going to interfere with my driving). The time and pricing they quoted me was accurate on both counts. Once again, I was blown away by their service and honesty. I decided to get it fixed as I need to sell my car soon, but I would recommend Ian’s auto shop to anyone in Coquitlam.

Is there such a thing as a honest Mechanic? If you asked be that before I went to Ian’s I would have said no but after going here I’m happy to say yes.
I had a few things going on with my Jeep and thought I may need a transmission flush so they said they would check a few things and call. In just a couple hours I received a call and was happy to hear no flush was required and the noise I brought the jeep in for was easy and cheap to fix.
I’ve tried many mechanics and would say the Ian’s is probably the only honest one I’ve found.
Definitely recommended.

You’re greeted at Ian’s by a very friendly woman (i forget her name) I asked for both front wheel bearings to be replaced, was called 10 minutes later with them saying I really only needed to replace one. I asked for them to replace my belts, (car is a high mile’r so I figured it could use it) I was told no need no cracks. I guess you have to beg for these folks to take your money. Lets you go in and take a look, will show you the damaged parts, the other mechanics are friendly and look like they enjoy what they’re doing, or like where the work. Refreshing to find both a competent and trustworthy mechanic. 5 stars, will definitely use again.

Hands down the mechanic I trust most. I’ve been in a few times, and he’s been quick and very reasonably priced.
My girlfriend went in to get one of her gaskets replaced, and it was far less expensive than the dealership and there was no sense of «upselling» — i.e. Ian didn’t discover new issues that needed to be addressed.
Minimum of fuss and seems very trustworthy.

great mechanic. fellow Z car enthusiast, very knowledgeable. Fair prices and quick service, tells you when to bring ur car in and the job would be done in a timely fashion. Nothing like other mechanics that tells you to bring in ur car anytime and keeps your car there for days without working on it. Very friendly.
