TLDR — avoid this agency, unless you’re desperate.
So a bit of background on this staffing agency… they serve a predominantly chinese population and they only speak Mandarin and some basic English. For prospective applicants, you will sign a contract with the agency and when you sign up to work as a temporary worker with this agency, they make it clear in writing that you will be pay a one time fee for their staffing services (~ approx 100 $), that you eventually have the option to have it reimbursed to you if you meet a set number of hours worked. I did get it reimbursed, so no issue there, but still should not be allowed as this is illegal. Not only this, but there is an actual steady flow of applicants who are recent immigrants and are desperate for work, so they just follow though the procedure without much thought.
The one thing about this agency that is good is that they do have jobs for their workers. They have some long term assignments, though seasonally. And they will call you up for short term jobs too, however I’ve experienced a lot of calls when they will call back and forth to change the start time of shift, or even cancel the job as it was filled. A lot of times it can be a waste of time, and I felt sometimes the agency itself is not thinking about the workers, but the employers needs.
Now, once they find you a work assignment, you would think, oh yay I’ve got a job and I’m going to finally earn something. For the longest time, they required agency workers to physically pick up their paycheques at this office at Jane and Finch. They refused to mail paycheques to addresses because they have received complaints about losing paycheques in the mail, which I find is a bunch of bull– more like they don’t want to spend money on stamps, and would rather you waste your time/​gas/​bus fare. And, they also refuse to set up direct deposit to accounts as they’re cheap, cheap, cheap. The agency would not even openly offer to send the workers’ paycheques to the assigned workplace until I complained several times that travelling to their Jane and Finch office was inconvenient and costed extra gas/​transit money.
The biggest grief you will deal with Nuleader is when for some weird reason your method of payment goes from paycheque to cash. How does something like this even happen??? I was on paycheque to paycheque and somewhere along the line of doing extra work over the holidays one year I stopped receiving cheques and was told I was on their list of workers who accepts payment in cash. In the end I found out the work I did for cash was not documented on any payslip and therefore was not documented anywhere. And the cash option is not even lucrative, you get less than the minimum wage, which boggles me why people even want to receive their hours in cash as opposed to paycheque.
Now, onto the person behind the phone who you need to call for inquiries about jobs/​payments/​etc. All I’ve got to say is from my experience, I have dealt with their «professional staffer» at the Jane and Finch location who has a mentality of a stubborn and obnoxious 8 year old child. The lady on the phone whom I spoke to (and it’s always the same lady) has some terrible customer service skills, will not admit to any wrongdoing, and will not provide any explanation other than to call their Scarborough location to address any issue. Not only this, but when a client like myself is unsatisified with her service, she decides to abuse her power by refusing to answer my calls, hanging up on me abruptly while I am still trying to talk to her, and when my calls are answered she will rudely speak to me even though it is her job to be professional at all times. This is how they demonstrate their stance on «respect» and «fairness» to their clients by throwing their customer service and conflict resolution skills in the toilet. *slow clap*
