At Hiscoe Jiu-​Jitsu we teach a self-​defense style called Can-​Ryu Jiu-​Jitsu (Canadian System of Self-​Defense). This is one of Canada’s most authoritative and growing self-​defense programs. Our program is based on simple, practical and effective self– defense techniques which are designed to be learned by anyone.

At Hiscoe Jiu-​Jitsu our goal is to provide citizens of the Fraser Valley with programs that promote «total awareness and survival» giving you Peace of Mind.

Hiscoe Jiu-Jitsu’s self-​defense programs are ideal for students who want to learn to protect themselves in addition to those seeking or you are employed in law enforcement. Hiscoe Jiu-​Jitsu students have gone onto professional careers with police agencies, correctional services, provincial sheriffs, border services and the security industry.

History

Established in 1992.

Hiscoe Jiu-​Jitsu has been leading the way when it comes to teaching self-​defense in the Fraser Valley for the past 20 years. Now located in the City of Chilliwack the Hiscoe Jiu-​Jitsu school offers a range of programs for students aged 3 and up. Each program is specifically designed to address the needs of those students.

Business Owner

The Owner and Chief Instructor Steven Hiscoe Sensei is a self-​protection specialist. With over 35 years experience in the martial arts, he is one of Canada’s highest ranking Jiu-​Jitsu masters. A veteran police officer with more than 20 years experience, he specializes in police combative training. Hiscoe Sensei has been teaching jiu-​jitsu in the Fraser Valley for over 20 years. He is also an Advanced Security Training instructors certified by the Justice Institute of British Columbia.

He began his jiu-​jitsu training as a 6 year old in 1975 when he started training at Therien Jiu-​Jitsu in Ottawa Ontario. Sensei Hiscoe achieved the rank of 1st degree black belt in 1983. He assisted with many of the dojos programs and for several years he taught the children’s program under the direction of Sensei Ed Hiscoe.

In 1989, Sensei Steve was hired by a major Canadian Police Force, after basic training he was transferred to Abbotsford British Columbia. Sensei is regarded as a jiu-​jitsu pioneer i
