I twice now have popped into this quaint basement suite and always have found a super vivo to take home with me. It’s becoming part of my Calgary tradition, lunch in Kensington, shopping my fave stores, and a vino purchase. This last trip in, the wonderful gentleman that was working, poured me a sample of a few different whites he currently was loving — what a treat! Thank you for the amazing customer service, the phenomenal selection, and the great suggestions!

What a gem. Came here for one of their weekly wine tasting events and so glad that we did. This event was called Wine on a Dime where we had a chance to try various wines under $ 20. The service was very friendly, the wines were delicious and the staff were super knowledgable. Great event to attend if you’re looking for a date spot that is out of the ordinary. Also their way of categorizing the wines is very unique and refreshing. Great addition to the Kensington area.

Tonight, I want a flavourful yet smooth wine with some nice bite to the finish — where do you start? The France section? Australia, maybe? Spain? Wrong, wrong and wrong. You start at Vine Styles! Instead of sorting their wine by the region or even by the grape varietal, Vine Styles has sections based on flavour profile. So if you know you want something mellow, you don’t need to worry if that’s a Pinot Grigio or Gewürztraminer — Just take a gander at the«Mellow» section and you’ll be on track to finding a bottle you love, regardless of the grape or where it’s from. At Vine Styles, you won’t find the same every day wines that you can get elsewhere and that’s a good thing! The whole store is set up to let you discover new wines that you’ve never tried before and by grouping them according to how they taste, there’s a better chance you’ll really like your new selection. They’ve got a very well though out selection of cool and creative wines, many with very approachable price tags. And if you want something really approachable, they’ve even got a whole section devoted to interesting wines at $ 20 and under. Craft Beer Lives here! They sell a good assortment of craft beers by the bottle(and only by the bottle), again, sorted by flavour profile. While they don’t have the immense selection of many larger liquor stores, they keep a very interesting and well thought out selection. I’d be impressed if you couldn’t find a delicious new beer at this store. Shame they’re not cold. They run a bunch of wine and beer events and classes around $ 40 that I think would be cool to check out. If FREE is more your style, drop by for one of their Style Day Weekends, with different wines open of different styles you can find the style that best suits you. Oh yeah, and there are ALWAYS samples available.

A new, refreshingly different wine store organized by style rather than country. For example, white sections have labels like«crisp» or «lush». There is even a takeout food section with choices for chinese, etc. The prices run the whole gamut, but have largely been curated on the principle of value-for-money. A modest selection of boutique style spirits are also available(e.g. fancy amaretto, small production cognac, Pineau des Charentes, Averna amaro). A tasting room bar is located in the back, and the enthusiastic staff provided samples several open bottles(in real glasses) while we were there. A welcome addition to Kensington, and it would appear that they have also taken over the Ferocious Grape location in the Beltline.
