Stopped for food & drinks with a coworker after work on a Monday. Laidback spacious interior with nice layout affording some privacy from other tables/sections. Selection of standard brews, nothing special. Steak sandwich was HUGE, tasted pretty good. Ample parking lot. Waitress was amazing, super attentive and helpful. Would return on the strength of the customer service alone, the rest of this pub experience was decent but unremarkable. Likely a different vibe when the place is jumping.

The atmosphere here is good and the staff was very friendly. Wife and I sat and enjoyed ourselves without feeling rushed. The food was as expected for a pub of its type. Good, filling, but not to die for. The Guinness was a perfect pour and they had the wives favorite brew Stiegl Radler. This is a great place to meet up with friends and you can reserve your preferred booth if you so desire. I like this place enough to come back if the focus is more on the brew than the food. I will add that it was nice a clean and as a result I prefer this place over James Joyce.

I have been coming here for close to 20 years now and it never disappoints. Lately, due to mini being in dance lessons nearby, I find myself with 45 mins to kill. Thankfully, R&C has a small but tasty brunch menu and I can be in and out in my small window between lessons. The short rib omelette and the chorizo hash are amazing!

It was 30 mins before we got a menu. Another 30 before we got drinks. It’s 90 mins now and we don’t have food. Waitress is nice but doesn’t compensate for the lack of food. Would not come here again.

A real public house, in the sense that it is a labyrinth of rooms and gables, allowing for semi-private group outings. Larger areas are used for frequent live music bands, and TVs for watching English football. Humdrum selection of beers, and typical pub fare, but I must commend them on the recently renovated patio. The East facing patio gets sun through mid-afternoon, is protected from the street bustle, has overhead heaters, and plenty of comfy couches in addition to regular seating. They even have a few tables with those slick pebbled centers that are fed by a propane fire, which would be awesome at night. It must also be noted that they have a very large free private parking lot for a business so close to the city core.

It’s been a while since I’ve been in to the Rose & Crown. It used to be an old stompin’ ground from when I lived downtown. My friend & I stopped in before the Flames game last Saturday. I’ve always liked the atmosphere there! The wings we had were fantastic. Now I consider myself a bit of a wing connoisseur and these ones were right up there as the best in the city. I’m not sure if they use the same wings for their Wednesday wing night, but if they do, it’s a great deal. I’ll definitely be back!

I went to the Rose & Crown following the comment from A.D. on 8÷31÷2014 saying their flatbread is Vegan. Please note their flatbread is NOT Vegan and the only options they have for Vegans is salad and fries, which is what I had to order instead. The server brought a nice but unimpressive beet salad and forgot the yam fries. Thoroughly disappointed and won’t go there again!

Went to the rose and crown last night for some food as it’s just around the corner and they do good food. I have to say I have never been so embarrassed, I was asked for id as I ordered a drink with my meal, so I proceeded to had my server my Irish drivers licence as that is what I have been using as ID since I arrived in Calgary, this was the first time I had an issue. The server looked at it I told her what it was and she said we can’t use this, she went in the back for about 10minutes as we sat and waited for her to return with it, she then stated to me that they couldn’t use it as it’s against Canadian law and I would have to leave the pub! I was shocked… I am well over 18 and I was extremely embarrassed as I walked back out through the bar. I had been to the rose and crown before I had ate and drank there using my licence so it made no sense to me!!! Later that night I spoke to a friend that works as a server and also a friend who is a doorman and I questioned them on this. They reassured me it is not against Canadian law and there should not have been a major issue! Needless to say I will not be returning here after this!!!

So I have mostly stopped going out to eat due to the fact that I am Vegan and usually all I can order are fries, veggie burgers and salads. So When I had lunch here yesterday that is what I was expecting. But instead I was able to order the Mediterranean flat bread with a gorgeous salad as my side. The flat bread had tomatoes, peppers, olives… the flat bread itself was very lovely and not at all like a crispy pizza crust. the salad had many types of greens, cranberries and almonds. Balsamic dressing was also very good. I loved this meal so very much and walked out with a smile Thanks!

Keep warm in winter with a stone-hearth wood-burning fireplace, and a pint of Guinness. No kilt necessary. Business lunch? Sure. Catch up with friends? Definitely. Summer patio pints? Yes please. Date with your lady-friend? Of course!(WARNING: I don’t have a lady-friend and you shouldn’t take my word on the last one.) But no, seriously, take her! The Rose & Crown is a traditional pub in a very cool, giant, old cottage style building. Rumour has it that it used to be a funeral home! Don’t let that deter you, this place is great. It’s ruggedly friendly and full of character, the way a pub should be. Things can get crazy(yah, crazy FUN) on the weekend evenings — there’s live music, and it gets packed! There’s a big projector screen for sports if you’re into that, but you’re not inundated with TV’s everywhere. It’s still by all means a pub, and not a «sports bar.» Two stars and a wish: Star 1: Very cool looking building. Book a party in the upstairs«library», it’s the best! Star 2: Solid traditional pub fare and good live music(Ok, that was 2.) Wish: I’d love to see some more beer for the beer nerds. The building has so much character and it would be awesome to see that reflected in the brews. Don’t ditch the big brand beers though — The Rose & Crown is the perfect meeting point between the mainstream, and the hardcore pub goers from all walks of life.

When we moved to Calgary, this was where we had our first meal. Bad idea. It was the afternoon /a nice day so we were looking for a patio. The patio at the Rose & Crown is a good space, but the service was so bad that it overshadowed all the positives. When we walked in, we struggled to figure out if we were supposed to seat ourselves or not. We decided to cowboy up and just sit; if we were doing it wrong, someone would surely tell us. It was ages before we were served, and when we finished out drinks our glasses sat empty for a long time. The food was good, but it took forever to get to us. You know when you’re getting bad service, and by the time you’re actually chowing down you’re just angry-eating? That was what happened to us.

Dropped by the Rose and Crown for Friday lunch with work buddies. Crowd of mostly older men in «meetings». Told my companions it was once a funeral parlour. He google tested my knowledge, then tried to impress the wait staff with his new found knowledge. Apparently they have a haunted tour of the building. It is what you expect of a decent pub off seventeenth, but my buffalo chicken sandwich seemed to be essentially a Chicken finger sandwich, sans any heat. Soup of the day was solid, and my companions were satisfied with their tequila tacos and steak sandwich. We were also amused by the availability of budget sex toys in the ladies loos, next to the tampons. Unsure if the men’s rooms are similarly stocked. :)

54321HAPPYNEWYEAR! I rang in 2013 here and it was a lot of fun. A more«established crowd» I’m sure our group was probably the youngest in there. We sat at our table and ordered drinks and food and finally at midnight we hit the dance floor. Our server was super awesome and really friendly. I only wish they maybe gave champagne out to the patrons. That would have been a nice touch. We had nachos they were tasty I was super hungry as my boyfriend and I took transit down so we had a half dinner that I made at home which would have been filling if we ate more. Drinks were the typical price for most places in Calgary. Might have been nice if they had a new years special or something. Over all an enjoyable night out and great service.

Ah the Rose & Crown, I can’t say I have ever had a bad night here, lots I can’t remember, but that’s another story. Our friend’s band plays here a fair bit, so it’s a place we frequent often. The reason for this visit was a get together with an out of town friend. So we got there early and managed to snag a table on the patio, which is a nice patio I might add, you do lose sun around 8ish, due to the it’s location on the east side of the building. But they do have heaters, so you can still tough it out. The servers are all friendly, easy to talk to and let’s be honest, they put up with a lot of drunk idiots, so they deserve a cheers! We had just gone for drinks, which were good, pretty straight forward drinks, nothing fru fru. If the ship patio is full, or you just want somewhere chill, I definitely recommend the Rose.

Rose & Crown was an OK-experience. The food and drinks are reasonably priced, but the quality isn’t impressive. It has a laid back and easy going ambiance, which is nice for hanging out with a large group of friends for a prolonged time. I agree with some of the other reviewers that the set up of the pub is a little confusing. The service was decent, the server came by to check on us for drinks/food occasionally, but not as frequently as we would have liked. Overall still a decent place to go if you plan on spending time as a large group.

Owners need to work on making the entrance more obvious and less of a wild goose chase. There is a set of about 6 stairs leading to two doors that are the obvious entrance to the Rose & Crown right on 4th St. When I went, they were locked with an old paper sign taped to them simply stating ‘Use the Side Door’. I went back to the sidewalk and headed north around the side of the building, finding another door. Guess what. It was locked too, with no signage. Continue around the back parking lot I finally found a little side door that looks like the door to the kitchen. That is the door the management chooses to use for customer access. Small, non-welcoming, hard to find, frustrating entrance makes for a bad first impression and experience. Place had a few clusters of people who looked like ‘regulars’ inside but was pretty quiet. It was 5:00 on a Thursday and no band was playing. Had one drink and left. Meh.

I love going to Rose & Crown when in Calgary. I love a good fish and chips and they truly deliver with their Tankhouse Fish N’ Chips. Made with Haddock it’s a Tasty change from the usual cod. It always arrived steaming hot with a crispy golden brown coating. Throw is a few shots of malt vinegar couple with the tasty chips, cole slaw and a Rickards Red and I’ve entered nirvana. On the rare occasion I’ll opt for the Bison Sheppard’s Pie, almost as good as the fish. Great selection of beer and at times super good live entertainment. Décor is very old school classic pub, super cool. The place at time overflows with typical friendly Calgary crowed, yes that’s a plus. Why only 4 stars, I’ve found that most of the other dishes while good don’t come close to living up to the two dishes above. Remember Crown & Rose when craving fish and chips and beer.

It’s all about The Library. And by that I mean the Rose & Crown is good on the bottom floor, but if you are able to get the little nook they call The Library. With couches, some faux-book décor and a big flat screen, it is the perfect place to commandeer when you’re out with friends. As for the rest of it, what can I say, the Rose & Crown is a solid bar/pub with a good selection of beers on tap, a spacious and laid back atmosphere and some pretty good service. They even have a lot of live music which is always nice to see. Update: I’ve been back to Rose & Crown a few more times and the more I go, the more I have issues with teh way they run the place. The service I’ve had as of late is lacking. Being left on a patio for 15 minutes with no server was surprising, considering it was a sunny Friday afternoon after work. I had to go tot he bar myself. Then, despite teh bar beign packed, there was no bartender to be found. I also have a severe issue to Rose & Crown having quite literally half the tables in the establishemnt reserved. There were plenty of free tables upstairs and downstairs but all were reserved. We eventually found a table, then watched as some of the reserved tables had no one show up and sit at them for two full hours. And this was a key time for walk-up business. I just find it is slipping and despite having a good bar, it certainly isn’t cheap.

On the weekends, the Rose & Crown is always packed, at least every time I’ve been there. They’ve usually got a live band playing, there are a lot of different places to sit… and yes you can go upstairs. The best story I’ve got about the Rose & Crown was last time I was there with some gal pals. We were seated near the back on the main floor and our server came walking by with a pack of matches. She kept walking a few steps, lighting a match, blowing it out and then waving it around a bit. We looked at her questioningly and she stopped to explain that someone in the vicinity kept farting, and the matches were supposed to eliminate the smell. We certainly didn’t smell anything but the aroma of the burning match while she was around. So I guess it worked! Straightforward and to the point, that’s the vibe I get from the Rose & Crown. It’s my kinda place.
