Qoola Frozen Yogurt Bar

I remember the first times I went there I was quite happy with what I got but not overly excited. But they really stepped up lately. The toppings are great, really good selection and quality, I quite enjoy them. And the flavors are even better. So tasty and yummy, makes it hard to pick one because you want them all.
You can sample the flavors but only with someone working there, which is okay regarding the fact that it is inside a mall with lots of people coming by.
The place is small with a few seats available, but you can sit down anywhere in the mall. It’s clean and the people who work there are always friendly.
I am sorry Menchie’s but I will visit this place more often, for sure.

Alright, so I can be a little behind when it comes to hip & happening places opening in Calgary — but better late than never right? :)
Like most fro-​yo places, you get to sample all the flavors before committing (Yesssssssssssssssss) I settled on red velvet, got graham cracker crumbs sprinkled on and some fresh fruit. The price is based on weight (and I’ve finally learned some self control!) so I walked out with a satisfying amount for around $ 4.
You have the option to purchase a «re-​usable» cup where you can save money the next time you come in and use the cup. I don’t know many people who like carrying around containers while shopping, so I’m sure this is how they make back the money for all those free samples they give out lol

Qoola offfer many probiotic varieties of yogurt that actually taste very good. Possibly the best thing about Quoola is that they also provide all of the nutrition information on their yogurt. To me, this is very valuable. It’s good for consumers to know what they’re putting in their body. And while frozen yogurt is undoubtedly healthier than ice cream, consumers can make informed decisions about the yogurt they choose to eat.
When I went to Qoola, I wasn’t sure what to get. So many different flavours without little tasting cups for trying. When I asked, however, the cashier provided me with samples of two different flavours – both of which I decided to purchase in a larger portion. The pistachio flavoured yogurt is particularly good, and has the consistency of regular soft serve ice cream, which I consider a bonus. If my food can be passed off as regular ice cream, clearly it has some merit.

While I am super pumped the self serve add your own toppings concept is slowly making its way in Canada I wish they brought the American style of having more choices of yogurt flavors.
I am happy with the 2 dairy free choices and the fruit is very fresh. Bring back your bowl to get 25 cents of the next time… if you are ever that organized — I am not.
Even when you are conservative no way you are getting less than a $ 5 treat… so learned the father in front of us in line who let his kids put every topping in sight on their overflowing bowls and paid close to $ 40 for three. Ouch.
It’s a nice treat but I can’t see myself becoming addicted. Which I suppose, is a good thing.

The flavours aren’t too great, and the toppings were fun but adds a lot of weight so I always avoid the toppings.
I think I’ll stick with other fro-​yo places.
A really great thing is that they print the nutritional information right on the dispensing machine! But that’s about my only compliment.

I was in the mall this afternoon and had vague recollections of hearing news about a new fro-​yo place. A quick check of Unilocal established that Qoola wasn’t in the food court but rather by the inside entrance to The Bay, so I went to check it out. Unfortunately they had my #1 favorite ice cream (or frozen yogurt, I suppose) flavour– pistachio, so I had to give it a try. I noticed right away the cups were HUGE so I made a good choice– filling about ¹⁄₆ of the cup with pistachio and another ¹⁄₆^th with chocolate, leaving ²⁄₃ of the cup empty. I wasn’t super-​impressed by the topping station and knew they would have a big impact on the price, so I stuck with just a sprinkle of almond roca crumble on the chocolate side of my cup. I’d actually hoped to put crumbled pistachios on the chocolate side and chocolate sprinkles on the pistachio side, but they didn’t have pistachios so my plain was foiled!
The yikes moment happened at the till– of course. An older man was standing at the cash register doing math on a scrap of paper. He looked up at me, said nothing and then went back to his calculations. I waited at least two full minutes longer before another employee came over to help me at the other register. The old man apologized to me without even looking up from his math. While the younger guy was helping me he had to turn away and take a waffle off the grill, delaying me further. The damage to my wallet for ¹⁄₃ of a cup of frozen yogurt, a teaspoon of almond roca and a side of being ignored? $ 4.75. Ouch.
As for the frozen yogurt itself, it was hit and miss. The pistachio didn’t have much flavor to it and seemed a bit more icy than creamy. The chocolate had a good, rich flavor and creamy texture which was nicely complemented by the almond roca, however.
I can see myself being optimistic and grabbing yogurt here once or twice a year, then being let down by the sticker shock and quality of (some of) the ingredients. Great premise, execution needs work.

Spun the wheel and I got a $ 5 gift card, usable for today only! Score! The store was busy but the line went very quickly. Staff were new of course but more than happy to try and answer questions for customers and offer samples. The chef with some medals was walking around doing interviews out in the Mall, cool. Qoola!
A MUST TRY — the Hawaiian Pineapple! Possibly the best frozen yogurt that I have ever tried! (there were around 8 to choose from)
You choose a yogurt at the back of the store, self pour and you can choose a plain cup or one with a waffle cone inside. Then you move on to fresh fruit — it really is fresh! Then come the toppings — everything from candy, chocolate chips, mini peanut better cups, slivered almonds, the list goes on! THEN you come to the syrups which we skipped, but there is high end caramel sauce, chocolate sauce, white chocolate sauce… OMG… now I want to go back there again!
Paid it forward today and gave our other 50% off couple to a young couple at the til as the promo wheel was done spinning for the day. I hope they loved their treat as much as we loved ours! With my coupon I only paid $ 1.06 for my heaping cup, so the prices (based on container‘s weight), not too bad!
No seating so you have to take your yumminess out as you walk or find a chair outside the store.

This place spurred me to write my first Unilocal review in a while. Strolling around Market Mall today, I happened upon this new frozen yogurt storefront near the Bay. I decided to poke my head in and see if the fro-​yo looked any good. I was pounced upon by a salesperson who informed me it was a «self-​serve» frozen yogurt bar and that the price was calculated by weight. She also let me know that the plastic cups they provided were re-​usable, and every time you brought your cup back you’d get a $ 0.25 discount, AND they were dishwasher safe. I was intrigued, but not yet ready to commit to a purchase. On my way out, I passed by the cash register, and noticed a huge, heaping cup full of frozen yogurt smothered in fruit and nuts and caramel sitting on the scale. And the screen listing the price as $ 5.55. It was then I decided to try some for myself, because that seemed like a slammin’ deal.
I grabbed a cup and headed to the back of the shop where the wall is lined with self-​serve frozen yogurt dispensers. There were probably around 8 flavours or more, including plain, cookies n’ cream, pineapple, pistachio, vanilla, chocolate, and no sugar added strawberry banana, just to name a few.
I love love love plain, or «natural» frozen yogurt. It’s sweet without being diabetes-​inducing, and has that slight tang to it. Just that hint of sourness. I went straight for the plain flavour. I also added an ounce or two of cookies n’ cream. Then, making my way over to the toppings bar, I added strawberries, mango pieces, and crushed oreos. There were all sorts of toppings. Nuts, gummies, these little tapioca-​looking balls that had strawberry or lychee flavoured juice inside of them, and all kinds of sauces as well.
My total after weighing? $ 4.23. Totally reasonable for the amount of frozen yogurt I got. I was thrilled. And it was delicious. A perfect springtime treat. This place is also a Canadian operation, which I also approve of. I recommend trying it out next time you’re in Market Mall. It’s a fun experience that kids would definitely love. And it’s nice to be able to create the exact concoction you want.
