I like Orca Fish. Amendment: I LOVEORCAFISH. I’ve never been to a butcher/fishmonger where I was willing to hand my money over. Yet, these folks handle this power over me with great responsibility. They make great, knowledgeable suggestions on the fish you need to buy in order to create great dining experiences. Every time I’ve stopped by I’ve engaged these guys in great discussions over food and cooking. In my last visit the fellow who helped me even convinced me to lay off an extra serving of halibut because he felt it would overwhelm the mushroom rissotto I was serving it with. Downselling? Get the whale outta here! Yes it’s pricey but the Orca’s fish is fresh. Very fresh. Fresh like how things get fresh for me after I cook husband-material food.

I work in the Kingsland Farmers’ Market so it is always easy for me to get my Seafood here at Orca Fish Company. But even if they were 50 km away I WOULDALWAYS go see the Chef’s at Orca for my Fresh Fish. I love fish and seafood and so do these guys, you can really tell. Having certified Chef’s working here is a major plus as they know so many awesome tips and suggestions.

Orca Bay Fish Company, Kingsland Farmers Market’s long awaited fish vendor is here. Featuring some of the freshest seafood around and very helpful and knowledgable chefs, it’s a shopping experience that is top drawer. Just looking at the display case is proof enough; glistening whole salmon, thick meaty ahi tuna, large fresh diver scallops and whole octopus. It’s truly a great sight. For those that are a little intimidated by the prospect of seafood shopping, the helpful staff is readily available to answer any question, offer cooking tips as well as provide recipes to transform your selections into something memorable. Having a fish monger at KFM completes the selection, making this humble city farmers market a true one-stop shopping destination.

A newcomer to the Kingsland Farmer’s Market, the Orca Bay Fish Company is an exciting new addition to the local food scene. Filled with fresh sustainable fish of all sorts, the selection is excellent, the quality doubly so and I’m quite pleased with it’s addition to the Market. On top of the fresh fish, they have shelves full of the regular accompanyments for your meal, from sauces to coatings and so on, all at pretty reasonable pricing. And for more unique fish that can’t necessarily come fresh but flash frozen instead, there’s several frozen freezers offering a decent selectrion of seafood ranging from shellfish to whole fish of all sorts. A little surprise is their offering of the«Odds and Cods» pack, which contains a mélange of fish and cuts at a nice little discount. Definately something to look at when especially making maybe a bouillabaisse or a stew? As for me, a total pleasant surprise was their offerings of a 3lb pack of crawfish for around $ 20. Being a fan and once resident of the Big Easy, I soooo love this and it’s incredibly hard to find in the city. None of the cajun restaurants and food trucks offer crawfish, and none of the ethnic supermarkets also, so having the chance to have a boil once in awhile is absolutely AWESOME. Add some of the excellent Andouille sausage from Jackson’s Deli just around the corner in the Kingsland, and you have the makings of a simply wicked dinner! Welcome Orca Bay! You will see me more often, even if it’s to complain that you’re using foursquare instead of Unilocal
