I’ve been here twice, and I don’t care to go back. Both times I had gone was simply because I thought I was being overcharged at my regular salon for my shellac mani($ 55) and wanted to check out some other options. Big mistake. The colours I was not into– and the owner Angela could tell, and tried selling me on her«favourite colour combo» which I agreed to because I wasn’t liking any of them anyways. She choose all my nails to be teal, and then for my ring fingers to be hot pink. Whatever brand they use for their shellac, obviously isn’t real shellac, because the colours were not very rich, and within 3 days or having it, it started to peel off. Also when Angela was filing my nails she was doing so like a savage and hurting me– I told her this and she looked at me like I was an idiotic baby. And the location of this place is not good either, mildly sketchy seeming. Over it. Turns out paying a little more somewhere else is totally worth it.

I’ve been going to Fortune Nails now for the past 3 years. When I first starting going there, Fortune Nails had just opened up. I’ve continued going for the past few years, and then I took a bit of a break(6 months) to catch up on some finances and then went back last week with a girlfriend. When I booked my appointment, I said we wanted to get pedicures together and then I’d get a manicure. When we got there, Angela(the owner) said she’d do my hands while my friend was getting a pedicure, and I was like«Uh, I’ll just come back for a manicure because I want to sit with my friend while we get a pedicure». And then the attitude began! The lady doing my pedicure was all like«Oh, you changed your mind! You said you were going to get a manicure and a shellac pedicure, and now all you’re getting is a regular pedicure.» I was like…“Yeah…I“m not getting a manicure today because I wanna hang out with my friend otherwise what’s the point of us coming together?!“ Anyways, the lady doing my toes yelled something out to Angela, which was clearly along the lines of «She was going to get a mani and they were both going to get shellac pedis, and now they’re just getting regular pedicures» and she rolled her eyes. Well unfortunately for Fortune Nails, I’ve referred 5 people to their establishment and since relaying what happened, none of us will ever go back. What I want to get done is my purogative — if I change my mind based on the fact that you can’t fit both me and my friend in for what we booked, then yeah, the services we’re getting done are going to change. Plus when we were there, there were only 3 other people in the entire shop — so it’s not like there was a line and I was taking business away from you by getting a regular pedicure instead of a shellac one. You guys still got over $ 80 from us for just regular pedicures, isn’t that better than nothing?! I would have once recommended this place and did, but because of the attitude and terrible service, I’m done.

WORST Shellac Manicure I have ever got! I got a last minute appointment here on Saturday and am regretting it since. I usually go to another salon but was in the area and said I would try it . Went in before 4 pm and there were¾ other people in there. It looked dingy and pretty dirty. Not a good first impression! I overheard the woman ahead of me was back in becasue the shellac she had got the day before had chipped! I should have known then. The lady didnt even soak my nails to remove the cuticles number one and now on Tuesday the shellac is lifting and peeling off already i feel due to this! I didnt do much this weekend for it to be coming off already. She barely filed my nails and they are different sizes and the shellac is not smooth. It has really irritated me — I usually go to smaller salons that are reasonably priced but this was horrible. None of the staff seem to speak english. Also another reviewer mentioned them not having great colors! They dont. I would NOT advise anyone to go here for a manicure. They possibly are alright for a pedicure and going by the reviews on here they tend to be for that.

I was lucky enough to get a last minute appointment at Fortune before they closed, after I had called three other salons… who knew everyone in the city was getting a pedicure on a Tuesday evening?! So after finding their shop(its kind of a weird location) I only waited a little while until I was seated at the pedicure chair. The treatment I got, considering they were about to close in 30 minutes was outstanding, no corners cut. My esthetician used these drill like instruments to buff my feet instead of the usual foot paddle… it made my feet soooo smooth. Ive never seen this tool being used anywhere else. I was happy to see that once she was done with the little pad attached to the tool, it was thrown away immediately. She spent a lot of time on my cuticles and was so slow and careful once my polish was complete, to put my sandals back on. Warning!!! As far as I could see, there arent any driers for your feet, so you have to be careful when you leave not to smudge. I think I paid about $ 42 dollars with tax for the pedicure. Its a bit more expensive than other salons, but worth it, as 1 week later, my feet took an ass kicking, and my polish still looks great.

Great place for a pedicure! Not a fancy place but I got an appointment by a walk in basis– massage chairs for the pedicure which was great. The lady used a motorized tool to rub down my feet-was interesting. Hurt a little bit. Anyway also got a brow and lip wax. Also good results but didn’t close the door for privacy. All in all cost me 68 bucks for all-felt a little expensive but I think I will go again.

Fortune Nails is Calgary’s hidden gem. Nestled between Japanese Noodle House and Ravenwood Alterations and Dry Cleaning on 13th Street southwest, it looks somewhat less than impressive from the outside. The interior is modestly decorated and recently updated with crisp new paint and a small snack bar offering water, tea, coffee and other treats. The salon is on the smallish side, with perhaps four or five nail stations and pedicure chairs, as well as a private room for waxing and other spa services. I first started going to Fortune Nails three or four years ago, when it was Magic Nails. Since then, a new owner, refreshed interior and re-branding to Fortune Nails have made it my go-to place for nail services. I’ve popped into a few other salons in Calgary, whether on a weekend whim or for an emergency manicure, but I’ve never found the bang for your buck level of service that Fortune offers at any other salon. Manicures, pedicures and acrylic services are priced on par with other similar salons in Calgary, but the quality of the service here is what truly sets Fortune apart. The staff are friendly, polite and professional, and each time I’m in they have a host of return customers. They are the only place in Calgary I’ll go for a shellac manicure — decently priced at around $ 30. I’ve tried other nail spas in the city and their shellac falls apart. The shellac at Fortune is always beautifully done: absolutely clean, smooth and polished, and with the right care I make my manicure last three weeks with nary a chip. I’ve yet to try their spa services, but a friend I referred to Fortune for shellac — who is also now a repeat customer — has seen them several times for eyebrow threading and she loves it. I will continue to be a return client of Fortune, and to sing their praises for any girlfriends — and guys, too! — looking for nail services.
