I love this place! My must haves are the appetizer short ribs and the chicken surwa/surwa kuku. I can’t get enough of them!

The place was dead empty when we arrived, which set alarm bells off in my head but decided to give it a go anyway. Great decision! The service was so friendly, and granted our waitress wasn’t totally fluent in English, her sincerity showed through. We received our food and it had great presentation. My crispy chicken was juicy, the skin was absolutely crispy, my pilaf was moist and tasty and even my salad was fresh. Thumbs up, would definitely go again!

The first time I came here, I had no idea that African/Indian food existed. Anyway, I’ve had lunch here several times and the food was good, however, I only have limited experience with this type of cuisine. The curries were good and flavorful and I liked the beef rib with rice/fries. My colleague who is of Indian/African heritage, said that it is pretty authentic. I’ll take his word for it. There is another location on Denman that I have not tried yet, but I will get to it!

Been here at least 4x to be confidently say that it’s not as great as expected. The service is good but the food is a bit over-rated. The cassava roots are constantly too dry, starchy and flavorless. The cornish hen is consistently too dry which isn’t how young chicken supposed to taste like. I do like their condiments and mango shake but I’ll go back with the use of entertainment coupon.

I went here with my boyfriend to venture cultural food inspired by African cuisine and other fusions. I have to admit I was a bit skeptical at first wondering if it was going to be good. When we first drove by it didn’t look that impressive from the outside since it’s in a sketchy part of Burnaby but when you walk in it’s very clean and tastefully decorated with African art and comfy seating. The owner is a bit on the proud side(little bit snooty) but still friendly and informative. When we ordered our food she explained everything. We were both happy with our meals. I ordered the chicken kebabs(sausage style, no stick) with fries and salad and my boyfriend had the chicken with creamy curry and a side of rice with Nann. The bill was a bit pricey for two entrees and no drinks. The rice is extra which should be included with entrees and the nann portions are very small so we ended up ordering 3 times. $ 46 with tip. Overall good tasty experience, good service and they give a mint chocolate at the end.

The food is quite good, good portions and the prices are reasonable. A little small so if you have a big party, you will need to reserve first.

Authentic and very real tasty food. It is a fusion of Indian and African food — with the emphasis on the best parts. The Owner is extremely gracious. You will need reservations on the weekend as it is a tiny spot. Bring friends who are into something different

Great atmosphere, friendly staff and manager, quick service, and most important, great tasting food. Had the coconut chicken curry with naan. Naan a bit on the small side as others have sad.

The food is consistently excellent and the service is attentive. The owner is friendly and genuinely appreciative of us as repeat visitors. I particularly enjoy the Mango Lassi, a delicious yogurt and mango drink, and the Chicken Surwa, which is similar to a rich and creamy butter chicken. The Mogo(Cassava fries) are a tasty starter. The only drawback is that seating is limited and the restaurant is popular, so I recommend reservations.

This place had delicious food and wasn’t too pricey. They serve(from what I gather) African-style Indian food. So there are still curries, and naan, rice and lassis. But the spices are different than North Indian spices. The service was courteous and they didn’t rush us. The food was really tasty. We got the spicy chicken wings and a chicken curry that was cream based(I forget the name). Anyway, it was all delicious. My only real complaint is that the naan is really small for the price they charge. It’s the same price as in Indian restaurants, but half the size. I would go back to try more things on the menu though.

Tried this out with a friend last. I have BBQ beef stick thing with rice and she had the special. The beef tasted good and the rice was kinda plain, but friend loved what she got. Staff were friendly and service fast. Place was empty on a Thursday evening at 6pm. I will add my meal taste might have been effected due to being very tired from business trip and drive back from Calgary the night before.

Yeah. I liked it. Nice food, authentic and unassuming, I had the goat and it was beautifully done. The service was good, nice ambiance, it was a very pleasant experience and I’d recommend this place without hesitation. I wish they had a better wine list but that might be quibbling.

this might be my go to spot in burnaby for visitors… the food was spectacular… my parents are from Africa so the décor gently reminds me of the motherland, and my childhood — that helped my experience. Overall, I’m thrilled with the food. I would suggest: 1. mango lassi(yogurt based drink) — you can also get sugar or salt in it instead of mango 2. naan(pita bread like) 3. Goat — yeah, seriously — get the goat 4. Mogo(Cassava) — great dipping sauces for these to be honest — I ran out of room in my stomach to get to dessert. I gotta go back for that at some point… the service was awesome — presentation, solid and I’m pretty sure it’s owner-operated which is a plus. go AFRICA!

Manager /owner is very rude. My friend is carrying a baby and that she’s not allowed to drink pop. She requested to change her drink. The owner refused at a loud voice and told her that she has to pay for the drink. Then my friend told the owner she’ll just order another drink and pay extra, the owner said… I don’t care. Whatever you order, you pay!!! We will never go back to that shop again!

What a fun, tasty evening! I was thoroughly impress with my first visit to Simba’s. Great, spicy unique food. The staff was so friendly. Great for groups. If you have more than 30 guests they will close the restaurant!
