NCIX Burnaby

I’m so relieved to read the many bad reviews as I worked there for a very short time and dreaded going into work. It’s too bad too as I’ve always bought from them in the past, but doubt I will again.
Some good people, but outweighed by the horrible ones that have no right to be in customer service, not mentioning any names. Am surprised management doesn’t address the underlying issues that hinder them in a changing time where amazon rules supreme. I went to 3 other stores as well and am blown away with how dirty 2 were, add old pc’s in clear view and empty shelves.
How they treat their employees is indicative of how customers are treated. Treat your staff properly and they will take care of customers!

Was here to buy an external hard drive.
I had to use the washroom and they would not let me use the one they had on the premises???
They said it was their policy… Ummm you spend a good ½ or more their to look at products and they can’t let you use the washroom. ???
I left and went to Best Buy, used their washroom and spent $ 250 on an external Hard drive.
Enough said !

Only been here once, not a bad place for electronic devices. Easy to go by bus and they don’t ask you to purchase extra items.

This is pretty much the go-​to place for all of one’s computer needs. I could almost live here.
Parking for this location is probably the worst out of all of them, as there is nothing other than the street (ie no private spots). This location also seems to have the longest lineups out of all the locations. Hence the 4 stars out of 5. This location also doesn’t have too much shelf space, other than for some peripherals, and table for tablets and laptops. For this I would recommend their other locations such as Vancouver or Richmond, and give this particular location 4 instead of 5 stars.
Their website is concise, and their selection is excellent. Pricing is mostly competitive (70% of the time), though one has to do his or her homework. Web order pickup is seamless (other than lining up), and they have yet to get any of my orders wrong. Staff are friendly even in the face of the daily hordes, and are efficient.

Worst customer service. If you go, write down exactly what you want, as these people just want your money and then want you out the door. If you are brave enough to ask a question, most likely you will get a standard canned response that shows how little they know, or care. They also make mistakes on billing you… they don’t even show you the screen to ring up your bill… make sure you check what they totalled up before you pay. Will NOT be returning to this location. They’re probably losing customers as fast as they get new ones. Pity!

I don’t think I will return here. The website is misleading. It will say that an item is in stock, when it is not. I asked the salesperson why this is and he said «yeah, I wish they wouldn’t do that. Most of our stuff is drop shipped».
Maybe this is ok If you order online but the store never has what I need.
You can pick something up at the store once they order it but to have it shipped to you costs extra.
There are better computer stores.

Take it or leave it. NCIX is the only computer store that you can possibly go to. Everyone else sucks.

Come here to get a good deal but not for the service. It really depends on who you get– we’ve been coming here for years and it’s a bit hit and miss.
Park around the corner because it’s easier than parking on Kingsway.

This places sucks! Don’t honor price matching!!! They need to work on there customer service! Try to get something price matched online and they couldn’t even do it

I’m surprised their average rating is as low as it is… Generally speaking, the prices here are good and the sales can be amazing. Yes, you do have to wait to speak with one of the sales associates there but that’s because no one ever has a simple question when it comes to computer parts — these guys take their time to answer you right. I also agree the restocking fee on items is high but I have yet to ever return a piece here and I managed to build a killed computer for under $ 900 (Case, Motherboard, processor, 16GB Ram, 550GB SSD, 1TB Harddrive & Graphics Card) by catching their sales at the right time over the course of 2 months.

This is a popular rock bottom priced multi-​location shop. Sometimes they have good sales, other times it’s just good pricing. Staff are knowledgable. There may be line-​ups, you can even order and prepay online and pick up at shop or have it delivered to your home. The drawbacks are a restocking fee of 15% for returns and a 1month warranty for items.
Personally the unreasonably high restocking fee is enough to turn me to other stores with better post sales service.

I placed an online order with NCIX and scheduled a pickup at their store in Burnaby. The parcel arrived sooner than expected. NCIX replied to my email in quick order about the ETA of the parcel. And I was in and out of the store within minutes, with parcel in hand. No lineup. Very positive experience. I would be happy to do business with NCIX again.

NCIX as a core business is fine. They have competitive prices, cool specials, serviceable website (with forums where users can give feedback on the products!)
This review will be specifically touching on the Burnaby location (near Metrotown).
I’ve been to several NCIX locations — Coquitlam, Richmond (inside Aberdeen), and Langley. Burnaby is the only one, which requires customers to take a number from the ticket machine (which isn’t all that visible to be honest. It for some reason, blends right into the store, even though it’s in front of you, the moment you walk in). On one unfortunate occasion, while I was lining up for Internet Pick-​up, I watched as a lady reached the counter, was told «ohh you gotta get a numbaaa”(after having already lined up for 10 minutes), walked off in exasperation towards another sales rep, only to be told the same. She erupted, yelling «this is BULL****!», and finally a kindly soul of a sale rep rang up her sale of cables that she plucked off one of the racks setup around the store. I estimate she waited a good 20 minutes just for that (yes I was in line that long too, but the difference for me was, I didn’t have any expectations of good service).
This instantly translates into a horrible customer experience, where we’re treated like the meat section of the supermarket, all waiting for our turn to talk to the butcher. Compare this against Richmond or Coquitlam locations where sales staff are (relatively)accessible and are usually pretty willing to help you. Here in Burnaby, the people behind the counter don’t want to deal with you, unless it’s your turn, or you’re lined up at the proper Internet Pick-​up booth (with an Internet Order in hand).
I mean just picture a bunch of random people all standing around, waiting their turn, some who have a ticket in hand, and a few who do not. Once again I need to state that new customers, when they walk in, don’t see the ticket thing — and I’ve seen this happen over and over. It’s not their fault… people don’t normally expect to have to «get a numbaaaa» when they walk into a store.
This brings me to my final complaint regarding NCIX (and this is a general one), and that’s the 15% restocking fee. That’s very steep. It discourages me from buying from NCIX unless I am absolutely sure that there is less than 1% chance that I will return the product (if I’m simply unhappy with it, and it’s not a problem related to defect). I might as well pay a little more at Best Buy/​Future Shop to ensure that my consumer rights are respected. Sometimes people, even after researching a product to death, read reviews, then go and buy it… find that it’s not the right product for them. Why are we penalized by the onerous 15% restocking fee, when we come back and return it the following day (or even same day)?
A final note — the Burnaby location is pretty dingy and shows its age. It could sure benefit from a cleanup, a different way of arranging the merchandise and honestly just getting rid of the ticket system.

I gave four stars instead of five because of the wait to be served. However, other than that, this store was incredible for my first time going. Zenon was super helpful and answered any questions I had and made sure I had everything before I left the store.
I would highly recommend this store. The service is great!

Very messy systems and tracking system. I was looking to buy a customize PC. Called in the sales rep to get some info before purchasing. The sales rep assured that things are good and encouraged me to order through phone instead of online. I ordered through him and he said that the invoice should come to my email in 10 mins. I waited for 24 hours and nothing happened. I called again to ensure that my order is in. The invoice came, and they put 2 motherboards on the invoice instead of one and overcharge me $ 100. I had to call in again and clarify the order. They got the order and I made sure that I told them that I will be picking up at the Burnaby location. The sales rep told me everything will be good in 4 business days.
Almost a week pass now, and I didn’t get a call or anything, so I called again. Apparently it’s shipped to Richmond. In order to get it in Burnaby, I have to wait for another 3 business days. My NCIX online account shows NOTHING. No order status, no invoice. The only thing that I have is the receipt from the email for paying my deposit.

Although the staffs were helpful the store is incredibly busy on many occasions. During that time, if you were to walk into the store you should know what you need. If not, then the staff may show some sort of annoyance. Otherwise its a pleasant experience for me, as I always find what I need and the staff is very patient whenever I demand a price check on their product.

I just waited for over a week after a did my online purchasing, and no news from NCIX. If I don’t call today enquiring for my order… probably I never would be contacted ever. Today after work I’m going to pick it up. I’ll write my second review here. Let’s see.
OK, this is my second part of this review. I went there and everything easy and fast. No delays, no bad experiences, all good. I’m returning to NCIX

I love NCIX. They always have the best deals for your computer hardware, and their sales are so plentiful too! For sure it is worth the time to shop at an NCIX.
Their services are quick too. If you buy online, you can just automatically pick it up at a store. The wait at this store is fast too. Their services are quick, and it is easy too. As long you know your stuff they can just help you quickly too. If you have questions, all your questions get answered too. They are happy enough to help you all the time and the people that work here are extremely attentive as well.
I will always refer NCIX to anyone. Their sales are worth the time to look, and their staff is extremely attentive with all their customers. Useful too!

You can find great deals in this store if you know what you’re looking for. If you’re someone like me who isn’t the most tech savvy, then you may have trouble finding help. Some days I get the best service and other days I feel like my questions are too much of a bother for some of their sales staff.
NCIX averages a 3/​5, but need to work on their customer service skills a bit more. Not everyone is computer literate.
*Note — They have amazing Boxing Day sales.

Selection is good online. In the store is another story. Silly setup with grabbing a ticket before being seen. Who do these guys think they are, the Motor Vehicle Branch or something?
Prices are fairly good, but cheaper deals are available in other stores with much better customer service.

This isn’t really a store to go to if you want to browse. Because you can’t. They have very limited stock on display, except for a few computers and netbooks, and some cables and minor accessories. It’s a bit frustrating that you have to grab a number to even talk to their staff and find out if they have something. I went on a Saturday and it was fairly busy, but I actually only waited maybe 10 – 15 minutes. They did have the hard drive I needed, which was a good, and it was a reasonable price, so in the end I was pleased. But once I had paid I had to wait again for the product to be brought out from the back. So that was another 10 – 15 min wait.
I guess maybe I am the type that likes to look at the product before I buy, so this system seems a bit odd to me, but I get that it saves them a ton of space. The service people were pleasant and helpful and agreed to recycle my dead hard drive for me, which was nice.
Next time I need something from here I will check what I need online first. It’s a good shop, but know before you go, I guess is best.

This is one of those stores where you have to get a ticket and wait for your number to be called before you get any service. It’s such as shame because they have so many staff members and I don’t know why it’s their way of doing things. If you’re going to NCIX, you’ll save some money when compared to the other computer stores in the Greater Vancouver area. I would go to NCIX early in the morning on weekdays because it gets busy after 3:00pm.
Note: wear a t-​shirt and jeans when you enter the store and don’t wear button down shirts with dressy pants because you might get hassled by other customers asking you if you work at the store.
