It was aight. Nothing special. Nothing too good. Not many selections. The bomb which were rice rolls with seaweed, tasted weird. But my weird cousin thought it was delicious. With their Ramen you get quite a lot of meat. And the soup isn’t too bad. We had twinkles deep fried shredded pork balls with sweet and sour sauce, it wasn’t great. the sauce was gelatin still and we couldn’t finish it. Tempura was good but small portion for big price. Overall this place isn’t any different from other Ramen places.

Really great experience here. I like the space although it is a tad dark. Good service and very good ramen. Like all ramen in GVR it is somewhat overpriced but if you keep it to the basic offerings you can get a relatively cheap meal(for ramen anyways). It gets expensive when you start adding extra stuff which is exactly what I have a weakness for. My broth was quite flavourful. This is not Santouka but well above average especially for a local Burnaby joint. Noodles were amazing! I combined it with a half tonkatsu which was much bigger than I expected and was well done.

Had the Chasau Raman. It was delicious. Wish they had Broiled Egg but never the less. Great broth

YES! Thank goodness they opened one by Hastings, so much closer to my place. I LOVe Kamamarui. I used to go all the way to the metro area for this stuff. I know this place isn’t authentic Japanese but I think it’s pretty damn good. The menu is pretty decent. The ramen choices + topping choices are pretty good. I love the broth and the noodles. The broth isn’t too salty or oily(both big pet peeves) and the noodles are firm and chewy. The servings are also really good for the price. If you order any ramen with Chasu they give you SOMUCHCHASU. I never eat it all. The interior + atmosphere are also very A+, just what I like. Both locations are super clean and cozy. The service is also quite good, and my favourite thing about them is that THEYPLAYREALLYGOODMUSIC! DJ Okawari playing in the background while you eat delicious ramen? Maybe I am a lil biased… but i still love it

I was really disappointed coming here. I had both the tonkotsu ramen and the chicken teriyaki don. As some other reviewers have mentioned, the broth is tasteless. Definitely not what a tonkotsu broth should taste like. Second, the chicken teriyaki don was loaded with westernized(read: super sweet) teriyaki sauce. I was hoping for better as the«chef» and staff were Japanese. My suggestion is to go somewhere better to get your ramen, Santouka for example. Definitely skip ordering anything with«teriyaki» in the name. Yeah, the prices are cheap, but you definitely get what you pay for.

I was starving and love ramen so I figured the food would be delicious! I left disappointed. I had the miso ramen with rich broth, and added the seaweed and soft egg options. Broth: bad, it was pretty bland Noodles: great noodles, really saved this place from 1 star Pork: most of it was really dry, not enough fat Bean sprouts: good Other sides: none Egg: no egg :(the soft egg I ordered to make up for this turned out to be a decent side dish of steamed egg with sauce Seaweed: okayish — tough, not bad after it gets soggy, too hard to eat when it’s dry I greatly prefer Hakkaku ramen a few blocks east on Hastings.

Glad this new location opened up — much closer to home than the Kingsway location! Location is small, maybe 5 – 6 tables inside. Service was very attentive(she checked on us twice and kept refilling our tea/brought us extra napkins, explained menu well), and fast. We got our meal within 10 minutes easily. We all got regular broth(as opposed to rich) and it was flavourful. We also got a very generous amount of meat. Our biggest complaint when having ramen is how little meat we get… but this location provided sufficient well-marinated pieces of meat. My dad also spilled tea everywhere and she was so gracious and helpful in cleaning up, didn’t give us any bad vibes — sorry we’re the clumsy people that night! Will return.

The new entry into the franchise first pioneered at the Burnaby Royal oak location. Ambience pretty nice. Generous chunks of chasu(BBQ pork) characterize their ramen menu. We like the sear and the smokiness compared with a few other nearby noodle places in the area . Broth itself was either a choice of pork or miso, no shio or other types. Pretty fair, but nothing outstanding. The add-ons to make a combo(ranging from 2 – 5 $) are pretty tasty. Recommend the rice«bombs».

A ramen place in North Burnaby is a delight. This place is cash or debit only. Prices are fair for ramen $ 9 – 12 and they offer dons and a small choice of side dishes. A one trick pony, this is not. I had the regular broth tonkatsu ramen. It comes with green onions, sesame, bean sprouts and a 2 pieces of chasu. The broth is delicious. Its light and not overwhelming. The bean sprouts seem to dilute the overall flavour experience… but a nice welcome later on as you continue eating. The noodles themselves seem to be typical yellow noodles. I don’t mind them, but nothing special. I’d have personally preferred the noodles more firm. The chasu is where the place shines. They marinate the one side with that BBQ sauce you typically find on unagi. It also has black cracked pepper and sesame. The chasu will come off a little sweeter. Its actually really nice. The other highlight is their home made sauces — chili, hot and ramen sauce. Half way through eating my bowl, I added a little of everything. The bean sprouts no longer felt out of place and worked well with the added flavours. The Waitress was friendly and eager to explain their sauces. Aspects of the ramen would give this place a 4th star(sauces and chasu). But the generic noodles really seem to hold it back for me. Ramen is for the noodles after all. A credit card option would also be nice. Regardless, I’d recommend this place and I’d certainly return.

Tonkatsu ramen broth was too bland for my liking. Usually it’s more creamy and rich. The Bombs –rice balls were good. Twinkle — fried pork with sweet and sour was good, different. Chicken Don was pretty good too.

Checking out a new local #Raman restaurant. Quite impressed and that’s saying a lot since I lived on the stuff in Tokyo. #Burnaby #japan If you want full flavour then go for the Miso Raman. I also tried the Katusudon which is a lovely, deep fried pork dish with a nice sauce slathered over it. The chopsticks are Korean style and the Katsudon had the wrong salad dressing and needs the classic yellow English mustered but that’s just picky stuff. Definitely worth checking out if you are in the neighbourhood.

definitely nothing compared to an authentic japanese ramen joint but their don bowl is good and the chashu has great flavour and fried just right. get the noodles at hakkaku a few blocks east of Hastings(just past Willingdon) if you are in the area and really craving a bowl of slurpy soupy slurp.

Overall a decent ramen spot to visit. The soup base is well balanced, you can also have the option of having the broth richer. There was also three different house-made sauces that you can add to your ramen which was tasy. The chasu slices that came with the ramen was a big part that brought down the score. The slices served were very lean and tough to eat. You do not get an option of the cut of meat served. We decided to try the tempura and the pork balls that had a sweet/spicy sauce(I forgot the actual name). Both were poorly made and we ended up leaving it half eaten. The tempura batter is too thick and the actual shrimp inside was very strange. it didn’t really seem like shrimp and had a strange texture to it. The pork balls also did not taste very good. The store is very nice, clean simple décor with cute chalkboard drawings. Service was very good. Ramen is worth trying, but skip the side dishes.

Ordered the chashu ramen. Broth was a bit on the bland side and they don’t give you much of it. Nothing special but service is excellent. Better ramen out there. Hakkaku down the street will continue to be my go to neighborhood ramen joint.

This is Kamamarui’s second location in Burnaby. It’s located at the old Akira Sushi location, conveniently just a few blocks from where I live! In comparison to their Royal Oak location, the food is just as tasty. The combos are a good value if you’re super hungry and and lots of variation(ramen + bomb, ramen + tempura, ramen + ½ size don, and ramen + ½ size tonkatsu). The tonkotsu ramen is my favourite. The broth is light but has a very rich pork flavour. Service was super friendly and the inside is super cute. The music makes the restaurant very cozy and warm.

Small little place tucked away on Hastings Street, very cute and excellent EXCELLENT service! Thats where my stars are going. There was only one girl on the floor at the time looking over all the tables — you go girl! Ramen is your average bowl of ramen, which is good. No need to worry about making any wrong decisions to eat here. Choice of Miso, Tonkotsu, or Veggie. I had the Tonkotsu which was more flavorful than the Miso. The«bombs» are nicely seasoned riceballs, I thought they were nice and unique. My fav was the soft egg. It’s steamed, almost like a poached egg and they use a sauce with yuzu bits! Haven’t had yuzu in a while. It was good. Love the setting. It reminds me of the cute little ramen shops in Japan.

This is now my second favorite ramen restaurant. First off, the service is ten stars: our server was extremely excited to serve us(maybe a little too excited lol). It was almost as though he was tricking us, «how is your meal? Good?! Really?! MuhahahHH!!» Haha, he was awesome. Secondly, and more importantly, the ramen broth and noodles were perfectly done(though they did just open, so hopefully it continues to be this good). The tea that was served was a nice black tea, which goes very well with the dish. Moreover, my favorite dish was the additional«Bön»(rice ball with seaweed and assorted spice) that was included with my dish. Lastly, the music was prime! They were playing a nice relaxing 1920 – 1930’s cinema covers. However, lol, sometimes a Linking Park song would slip through, and the owner would quickly, and embarrassingly change the tune. This added a lot of character to the the place. It’s won my service, and their not ever fully functional yet!
