Solid 3.5 stars. A friendly casual place probably better suite for the locals, as you wouldn’t make a deliberate drive to come here for their food or coffee. It’s a cozy Italian joint that fits along Commercial Drive, but it’s North Burnaby. Good sandwiches, good value. Friendly ppl, didn’t mind me working on my laptop. Easy free parking.

I missed the bus and I was hungry, therefore, stopped in here. The outside looks very unassuming. When I walked in it immediately felt like a family environment. The owners knew everyone’s name who walked in, therefore, it was obvious that this was a neighborhood establishment. I was eating alone, however, had a really nice guy named Don who ran the radio store next door join me. His sandwich looked good, therefore, told the owner to «I’ll have what he is having» situation. I ended up talking with everyone whom walked in. It truly did have a hood vibe to it. I even had a cute guy whom looked like Orlando Bloom sit beside me who was fascinated by my neon yellow hair. They’re cash only. I had a soup and sandwich combo for less than $ 10. AMAZING chicken noodle soup.

Places like Café Classico are disappearing fast. It’s one of those family owned diners that you see in movies. I came here for lunch and the place was a zoo — and after eating the food I can see why. My soup and sandwich combo reminded of home cooking, was fairly affordable and simply scrumptious. Although the food may be homely, and the atmosphere a bit fuddy duddy, I’m definitely a fan.

Stopped by this quaint café lunch upon the recommendation of a coworker. Ordered the soup and sandwich combo. Sandwich was roast beef on rye. Soup was beef barley. Bread was fresh. Meat was a bit skimpy. Soup was hearty, hot and not too salty. Overall it did the job on a cold day. Whole thing came to $ 7.75. It was cash only and the cashier told me that I could eat first then come back to pay as I didn’t have any cash on me(I thought this was a nice touch). As mentioned in other reviews, this place had a very Italian feel. There was some guy in the back speaking Italian the whole time. Their coffee machine looked authentic. I’ll definitely be back to try it.

My favorite thing here is the soup and sandwhich combos and the iced latte/iced mocha. It’s nice and and cozy. During the summer months they have a nice patio to people watch from and free parking on the side. It’s a nice family run business and it’s a great alternative to a chain store coffee shop. The soups are made fresh every day and the sandwiches are good. Try the gelato and the tiramisu!

This place is literally a hole in the wall. Can’t believe I had never even noticed it, after decades of driving by this stretch of Hastings. Parking is available directly in front. There is a patio with several tables outside. Should be nice when it’s sunny outside, except that it does face S so you’ll get a ton of sun. The inside feels like something you’d find straight out of Commercial Drive. Yup it’s pretty Italian in here. They even have a Luongo jersey in here. Represent. The clientele were mostly Italians here too. Thus the passed test of authenticity. And yes, it’s quite cozy. I’ve heard the food here is decent, but didn’t try and therefore cannot comment. My buddy kept telling me about their chocolate coffees. This is more like a coffee milkshake. Beautiful. It’s a bit pricey at $ 4 – 5, but it’s good. I’d take this over a similarly-priced Frappuccino any day. Next time I need a quiet place to reflect on life, this place is near the top of the list. Recommended.

I echo Reena. Simple, perfect Italian sandwiches. The capicolo is my favorite. Also, the greatest ice coffee ever — espresso and gelato together to make you never tolerate a crappy Starbucks frappacino ever again. Cash only.

You walk into this place and you feel like you just walked into an average joe coffee bar in Italy. But that’s the charm of this place. Spend half an afternoon here and you realize that this local business is a community gem. The owners/people who work here know almost everyone who comes into the café. And even if they don’t, they treat you like one of their own. It felt like I was in Italy, with older men(older than me, anyway) having afternoon conversations over coffee about current events and family with the rest of the restaurant. Except I understood most of the conversations! You gotta love a business that is family-run. The goods: This isn’t the place you come to if you want a fancy sandwich with pesto or chutney and whatever. I had a mortadella sandwich on Italian bread and a San Pellegrino Aranciata. Sandwiches are your basic meat, cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, mayo, and pickles. But the Italian bread – mmmmm! It’s amazing! So fresh and so… good! It’s simple, and it works. My entire lunch was $ 6.50 incl. drink and tax. With tip it’s about $ 8.50. Also, I watched them prepare a sandwich to go and they take care to wrap the pickles separately in Saran wrap on the side so the sandwich doesn’t get soggy! I will be back here to try some of the other menu items like the soup or an affogato!
