Bill & Walter’s Garage

When my wife’s car failed to start it was towed to Bill & Walters garage for repairs.
The third day that it was there we had a call from the them telling us that a window was smashed during the night. I then heard «we are not responsible» No amount of talking would change their mind so I called ICBC & was told that it was their responsibility as the car was in their care. The next day the ICBC adjuster phoned to tell me the glass has been replaced but the battery was now missing from the car.
Once more we were hearing «we are not responsible» & this time ICBC agreed with them as theft from the car would go against my insurance which did no good as the new battery cost was less than the deductible. A two star rating is being generous for this «couldn’t care less about the customers car» attitude of this garage.

This place charged me over a hundred bucks to change lightbulbs. Seriously. I wanted to change my headlights to have some brighter/​whiter lights in them that I had and not being mechanically inclined I was able to change them myself, but then couldn’t get everything closed again properly. So I decided to just take the bulbs to them to actually get it done right and when I came back to pay they claimed that the new bulbs I gave them were dead so they had to charge me for new ones… even though I had just tested them myself the night before and they worked fine. I expected to maybe pay half of what I was charged so I was really disappointed.
One other time that I went there I waited at the front counter for ages and no one ever came to help me. I eventually left because no one ever came to the front counter the whole time I just stood there patiently waiting for many minutes. I get that they were probably busy in the back, but wouldn’t it be important to have someone who just works the front? How long was I supposed to just stand around there for?
And finally today I needed my car horn disconnected because it was going off by itself so I called them to see if they could do it (why I was prepared to give them a third chance is beyond me). The guy told me it would be $ 40 and he couldn’t take me for 3 or 4 days. So I called the place across the street and they said they could take me immediately and wouldn’t charge me for something that simple. Wow, what a difference!

I called these guys about replacing the water pump in my Vanagon. They told me the part was $ 400 and the labour another $ 300. The labour is about right but the part is worth $ 125. $ 400 for a water pump is insane.

I got struts, a timing belt and shocks replaced here. Problem was the excessive price. More than $ 1700. The four struts were charged to me at over $ 140 each. Upon walking into Canadian Tire, I see they were selling them for $ 67 each at regular price. $ 130 for a wheel alignment. The coolant was changed without my consent.
They did quality work. I just don’t like mystery bills and unauthorized work. I was floored when my bill was given to me. I even brought in my own timing belt =\

I recommend B&W’s to everybody I know! I have been coming to B&W’s for over 14 years. I was referred by a friend that claimed «They are the best, go see Fernando!». After bringing my 1992 VW Jetta there a few times, I knew they were the BEST! Knowledgeable, friendly, and VERY reasonably priced! One time I dropped my car off, I said to Fernando, «There’s something wrong with the car. I don’t know what it is, but find it and fix it. I’ll pick it up after work» When I went to pickup my car I said «What was wrong with the car?» He handed back my keys and said «Nothing, it’s a little older, but I checked it over and everything is running great.» He didn’t even charge me the time it took to check things out. Wow! This was unheard of from a mechanic. I have never brought my new VW Golf (not new anymore) anywhere else but here. They really are the BEST and trustworthy! B&W’s specializes in Mercedes, Volvo, Volkswagen and more. B&W’s is now run by his son George, but Fernando still works there! Definitely worth a call next time you are having car troubles!
